Data were analyzed to capture meaningful themes and categories. Implications for practice are discussed.

A Return To Our Roots: 1st Century Church Growth In The 21st Century, Robert E. Logan Jan 2010

A Return To Our Roots: 1st Century Church Growth In The 21st Century, Robert E. Logan

Great Commission Research Journal

This paper reviews the history of the church growth movement with the underlying question: Can such happen in the 21st Century? The origination of the church growth movement is explored with a challenge to recontextualize the posture of church growth initiatives. A key to this process is the development of leaders through both missional and relational processes. Returning to our missional roots and becoming more and more incarnational as we walk alongside the next generation of leaders will have historic impact not only for church, but for the world, for the marketplace, and for all the new ways God may …

Integration And Test Of A Refrigerant-Based Cold-Gas Propulsion System For Small Satellites, Ryan Alan Pahl

Masters Theses

"Due to the launch safety constraints placed on university-built small satellites, designing a low-cost propulsion system to meet mission requirements presents a significant challenge to aspiring student engineers. The Missouri University of Science and Technology is currently developing a low-cost, two-phase propulsion system using the refrigerant R-134a as the propellant that can be stored at low pressures while still providing sufficient performance to meet mission goals. The purpose of this study is to present the testing results of a refrigerant-based cold gas system utilizing R-134a as a saturated liquid propellant and the ability to design this system to be portable …

Evaluating The Effectiveness Of Summer Day Camp In The Local Church As An Opportunity To Encourage Youth In Their Spiritual Growth, Church Identity, And Service, Michael J. Stevenson

Doctor of Ministry Projects

Problem

Large amounts of time and effort are expended by youth directors in providing camp related opportunities for employment. It is widely hoped by these youth directors that the experience of being a camp staff person will increase spirituality among the staff, that it will strengthen their identification with the Seventh-day Adventist church, and that, in the future, these same staff members will desire more opportunities to serve in the mission of the church. The purpose of this project is to qualitatively study whether staff are affected positively or negatively in the ways mentioned above, by being staff members of …

Development Of A Night Vision Goggle Heads Up Display For Paratrooper Guidance, Fernando Ontiveros

Theses and Dissertations

This thesis provides the proof of concept for the development and implementation of a Global Positioning System (GPS) display via Night Vision Goggles (NVG) Heads-Up Display (HUD) for paratroopers. The system has been designed for soldiers who will be able to utilize the technology in the form of a processing system worn in an ammo pouch and displayed via NVG HUD as a tunnel in the sky. The tunnel in the sky display design is essentially a series of boxes displayed within the goggle's HUD leading the paratrooper to the desired Landing Zone (LZ). The algorithm developed receives GPS and …

Missionary Schools And The Enlightenment Of The Alaskan Natives: A Theological And Sociological Survey Of Russian Orthodox And Protestant Missionary Efforts Among The Nations Of The Aleutian Islands And Southeastern Alaska, Erik C. Young

Seminary Masters Theses

The goal of this research thesis is to explore the activities of the Protestant and Russian Orthodox missions to Alaska and the ways in which they engaged the Native American peoples. It examines the geographic, religious, sociaL and economic distinctives of the respective missionary ideologies. Although the Orthodox and Protestant missions labored at different time periods and under different conditions, their work overlapped and their efforts were informed by the anthropological and theological traditions from which they derived. As a vehicle for equitable comparison, this thesis briefly unpacks the lives of the Presbyterian minister Edward Marsden, a Tsirnshian Indian educated …

Building An Ethos Of Discipleship For Transition In The Twenty-First Century, Greg J. Boulton

Doctor of Ministry

The tension between old and new tears at the heart and soul of the church in the United States. For example, does the church focus on building new churches and allow old ones to die? Do church leaders develop a more effective ethos that renews the hearts and minds of Christians in old and new churches? This paper deals with how leaders can develop an ethos that sustains discipleship in the life of its members. It is the thesis of this paper that long-term members of the Christian faith can be revivified through a biblical discipleship process. The paper explores …

Emotional Intelligence: The Core Of The Church Leader For Missional Living In The Emerging Culture, Chad David Johnson Mar 2005

Emotional Intelligence: The Core Of The Church Leader For Missional Living In The Emerging Culture, Chad David Johnson

Doctor of Ministry

The modem western church is experiencing a crisis of leadership. This crisis of leadership within the church is driven largely by the lack of emotional intelligence among the churches leaders. The lack of emotional intelligence is debilitating to the missional effectiveness of the Church in this emerging culture. The problem of the lack of emotional intelligence among leaders will be addressed by crafting a model of leadership composed of a core with four key components. The core is emotional intelligence (EI). With EI at the core of the leader, four ways of life and leadership emerge. These will equip the …

Technical Feasibility Of Loitering Lighter-Than-Air-Near-Space Maneuvering Vehicles, Eric R. Moomey Mar 2005

Technical Feasibility Of Loitering Lighter-Than-Air-Near-Space Maneuvering Vehicles, Eric R. Moomey

Theses and Dissertations

The near-space region of earth's atmosphere above 20 kilometers altitude is greatly underutilized. Lighter-than-air maneuvering vehicles, or airships, using the principle of buoyancy can take advantage of this region to become potential platforms for precision navigation, environmental monitoring, communication relays, missile warning, surveillance, and weapon delivery. These vehicles purportedly provide persistent coverage over large areas of the earth's surface at substantially lower costs than orbiting satellites. This study investigated the technical requirements to loiter an operational payload within this high altitude region using a lighter-than-air maneuvering platform. A parametric analysis was conducted to identify the critical technologies needed to achieve …
