Machine Learning To Predict Outcome Of Inulin Supplementation In Children And Adolescent Obesity From Gut Microbiome Profile And Clinical Factors, Vitavat Aksornkitti

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Obesity is a non-communicable disease that arises from multiple factors, including lifestyle behaviors, dietary habits, and genetics. Despite the growing prevalence of obesity, traditional interventions such as increased physical activity and changes in diet and lifestyle often fail to achieve sustainable, long-term weight loss. Therefore, more effective strategies are needed to address this condition. Recent studies have highlighted the role of gut microbiota in obesity, illustrating that the obesogenic effects are transferable via fecal microbiota transplantation. However, research in this area has been limited, particularly among children in developing countries such as Thailand. Early studies have shown that variations in …

Narrative Economics As The Origins Of Momentum, Aung Khant Myat

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

This study investigates the role of economic narratives in shaping momentum effects in U.S. equity markets from 1984 to 2017. Utilizing narrative attention measures developed by Bybee et al. (2024), we examine how narrative attention and narrative innovation influence both time-series and cross-sectional momentum returns, after adjusting for Fama-French factors. LARS is employed for variable selection, and rolling-window regressions are used to capture time-varying factor loadings. Through a combination of time-series and panel data analysis, we test hypotheses related to static, persistent, and asymmetric narrative effects, along with firm- and market-level moderators. While the results are mixed across subsamples and …

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

This study presents an agent-based modeling framework designed to evaluate epidemic-responsive insurance mechanisms under behavioral and supply-side constraints. The model does not rely on empirical calibration or external datasets; instead, it explores how stylized agent behavior and systemic pressures jointly influence insurance uptake, coverage efficiency, and policy outcomes. The simulation integrates a stochastic SEIR+ disease progression structure with individual-level decision making shaped by perceived risk salience, scarcity sensitivity, and delayed response behavior. A two stage evaluation process is implemented: first, a global sensitivity analysis identifies the key drivers of agent and system behavior; second, a strategic policy simulation compares the …

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

This study aimed to evaluate the impact of multimedia and verbal information on patients' knowledge, anxiety, and decision-making regarding dental implant surgery, focusing on comparing computer-assisted and freehand techniques. This randomized controlled trial involved 100 patients divided into two groups: one receiving multimedia information (n=50) and the other receiving verbal information (n=50). Data were collected through self-administered questionnaires assessing patients' baseline information, knowledge, anxiety, and decision-making before and after receiving information about dental implant surgery techniques. Results showed significant increases in knowledge scores for both groups, with the multimedia group improving from 1.96 to 3.90 (p<0.001) and the verbal group from 2.0 to 3.98 (p<0.001). Anxiety levels decreased significantly in both groups, with reductions from 12.76 to 11.48 (p=0.001) in the multimedia group and from 13.92 to 12.16 (p<0.001) in the verbal group. The proportion of patients who decided to proceed with dental implant surgery increased from 70% to 78% in the multimedia group and from 54% to 66% in the verbal group. After receiving the information, more patients in both groups opted for computer-assisted implant surgery, though treatment costs remained a significant concern for some, leading to declines in surgery acceptance. Despite these findings, no significant differences were observed between the multimedia and verbal groups regarding knowledge improvements, anxiety reduction, or decision-making. In conclusion, multimedia and verbal information effectively enhanced patient knowledge and reduced anxiety about dental implant surgery, and both methods may influence patients' decisions regarding their preferred implant technique, with no significant differences between the two methods.

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Sepsis is a vital cause of death globally, primarily due to the uncontrolled secretion of cytokines that disrupt homeostasis. Hemoperfusion is an extracorporeal blood purification technique to treat sepsis that is uncomplicated and effective. The adsorbent material is the essence part of this technique. Since it has to direct contact with blood, the material requires necessary properties, including hemocompatibility, biocompatibility, mechanical stability, etc. Here in this thesis, we developed a new adsorbent material for hemoperfusion using PMMA beads suspension polymerization. Five different porogens, including ethyl acetate, tributyrin (short-chain triglycerides), MCT oil (medium-chain triglyceride), soybean oil (long-chain triglyceride), and toluene were …

Factors Affecting Securitization In United States Climate Policy Under The Biden Administration, Gordon Spahr

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

This study articulates the importance of the audience in Buzan’s securitization framework by analyzing the case of climate securitization in the United States under the Biden Administration between 2021 and 2025. The role of the audience is demonstrated as a coequal piece of the securitization framework through a new process of analysis in which securitizing speech acts are examined and paired with an analysis of audience acceptance to determine the extent to which those acts were successful. A qualitative analysis of securitizing speech acts was conducted on executive orders and multiple policy documents produced by the Administration and was then …
