Online Disinhibited Contracts, Wayne R. Barnes Feb 2024

Online Disinhibited Contracts, Wayne R. Barnes

Faculty Scholarship

There have been at least two dominant forces at work in the realm of consumer contracting over the past several decades. One has been the rise and domination of the standard form contract (whereby merchants contract with consumers via the use of standardized, boilerplate terms and conditions that consumers do not read or understand). The second force has been the rise of e-commerce and the purchase of goods and services via websites and other online platforms, and the use of “wrap” formation methodology (whereby merchants obtain consumer assent to the online terms and conditions via the consumer’s informal click, scroll, …

Does Destination Nostalgic Advertising Enhance Tourists’ Intentions To Visit? The Moderating Role Of Destination Type, Lujun Su, Chengzhi Ye, Yinghua Huang Feb 2024

Does Destination Nostalgic Advertising Enhance Tourists’ Intentions To Visit? The Moderating Role Of Destination Type, Lujun Su, Chengzhi Ye, Yinghua Huang

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity

This study investigates the impact of nostalgic advertising and perceived destination types on tourists using four experiments. Study 1a and Study 1b revealed that destination nostalgic advertising is more likely to evoke tourists' history sense and further trigger visit intention, while destination non-nostalgic advertising is more likely to evoke tourists' fashion sense and further trigger visit intention. Study 2a and Study 2b revealed that perceived destination type plays a moderating role in these effects. Nostalgic advertising in utilitarian destinations is more likely to evoke tourists' history sense and further trigger visit intentions, while non-nostalgic advertising in hedonic destinations is more …

Examining The Influence Of Adult Mentors On Fostering Prosocial Behaviors Among Teens, John H. Weaver Iii Feb 2024

Examining The Influence Of Adult Mentors On Fostering Prosocial Behaviors Among Teens, John H. Weaver Iii

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This dissertation addressed a critical public health concern stemming from the prevalence of antisocial behavior among U.S. teenagers. The study specifically tackled the lack of information regarding the components of an effective risk-reduction mentoring program for teens. The primary aim was to explore how young adult alums of a central Florida mentoring program articulated the influence of mentoring relationships that have shaped their attitudes and perceptions concerning prosocial behavior during adolescence. As a bounded qualitative case study, this research employed semistructured interviews with 11 young adult mentees from a mentoring program. Additionally, a focus group of five adult mentors who …

Increasing Folic Acid Self-Efficacy In College-Age Women Of Childbearing Age, Kristie Lynn Buchanan Feb 2024

Increasing Folic Acid Self-Efficacy In College-Age Women Of Childbearing Age, Kristie Lynn Buchanan

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Preventative measures taken by women of childbearing age before and during conception limit the risk of fetal defects or complications. One specific measure that is recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is that all women of childbearing age take folic acid 400 mcg daily. Evidence-based research suggests that taking 400 mcg daily limits the risk of fetal neural tube defects if taken daily and started at least two months before conception. Fetal neural tube defects are classified as defects that damage the baby’s spine and brain. The researcher conducted an evidence-based practice project that sought to determine …

An Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis Of Urban Early College High School Teachers' Experiences, Tamika Vanessa Taylor Young Feb 2024

An Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis Of Urban Early College High School Teachers' Experiences, Tamika Vanessa Taylor Young

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Teachers are fundamental to students' performance by fostering relationships and imparting knowledge in the classroom. Dual-credit teachers work for Early College High School (ECHS) programs to assist historically underrepresented students in accelerating their path toward earning college credits and associate degrees while attending high school. Hard-to-staff ECHS programs with underrepresented pupils in lower socioeconomic urban areas suffer high teacher attrition. How urban ECHS teachers define their professional experiences is still being determined, which affects organizational outcomes. The purpose of this phenomenological qualitative exploratory study was to investigate and understand the lived experiences of urban ECHS teachers in Texas. This study …

Cold-Inducible Rna Binding Protein Impedes Breast Tumor Growth In The Pymt Murine Model For Breast Cancer, Daniel A. Lujan, Joey L. Ochoa, Ellen J. Beswick, Tamara A. Howard, Helen J. Hathaway, Nora I. Perrone-Bizzozero, Rebecca S. Hartley Feb 2024

Cold-Inducible Rna Binding Protein Impedes Breast Tumor Growth In The Pymt Murine Model For Breast Cancer, Daniel A. Lujan, Joey L. Ochoa, Ellen J. Beswick, Tamara A. Howard, Helen J. Hathaway, Nora I. Perrone-Bizzozero, Rebecca S. Hartley

Markey Cancer Center Faculty Publications

RNA binding proteins (RBPs) post-transcriptionally regulate gene expression by associating with regulatory sequences in the untranslated regions of mRNAs. Cold-inducible RBP (CIRP) is a stress-induced RBP that was recently shown to modulate inflammation in response to cellular stress, where it increases or decreases pro-tumorigenic (proinflammatory) cytokines in different contexts. CIRP expression is altered in several cancers, including breast cancer, but the effects of CIRP on inflammation in breast cancer is not known. Here, we investigate if CIRP alters growth and the inflammatory profile of breast tumors. Transgenic mice overexpressing CIRP in the mammary epithelium were crossed with the PyMT mouse …

Modular Bankruptcy: Toward A Consumer Scheme Of Arrangement, John A.E. Pottow Feb 2024

Modular Bankruptcy: Toward A Consumer Scheme Of Arrangement, John A.E. Pottow

Cardozo Law Review

In the world of cross-border corporate insolvency, those in the know are familiar with the increasingly popular scheme of arrangement, the British quasi-reorganization procedure that allows a company to restructure some, but not all, of its debt. The typical scheme effects a corporate balance sheet reshuffling by supermajoritarian approval (and judicial “sanction”) but often leaves other debt, such as the trade, untouched. A key conceptual component of the scheme mechanism is its intentional modularity, called by some its “selectivity.” It does not require a comprehensive reckoning of all claims against a given debtor, only some. The scheme has proved popular—so …

“Swifties” Or Swift Suppression? How Police Officers Exploit Copyright Law And Practice Online To Evade Public Accountability, Jeremy Lamstein Feb 2024

“Swifties” Or Swift Suppression? How Police Officers Exploit Copyright Law And Practice Online To Evade Public Accountability, Jeremy Lamstein

Cardozo Law Review

The video recording of the tragic killing of George Floyd by Minneapolis police officers had an immediate and profound impact on the public. The video held essential evidentiary value in the prosecution of Floyd’s killers, as it told a very different story than what the police officers had made the situation out to be. It was by no means the first recording of police misconduct that generated significant attention from the public, but it remains among the most notable.

Now, imagine that the world had never seen the extent of this horrific incident. In this alternate universe, the video never …

Molecular Study Of The Relationship Of Gene Expression Of Some Genes With The Temperature Variation Of Bacterial Growth, Ahmed Attalla Hasan Al-Fhdawi, Adel Meshaan Rabee Feb 2024

Molecular Study Of The Relationship Of Gene Expression Of Some Genes With The Temperature Variation Of Bacterial Growth, Ahmed Attalla Hasan Al-Fhdawi, Adel Meshaan Rabee

Baghdad Science Journal

Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an opportunistic pathogen responsible for serious infections. At least three different exopolysaccharides, alginate, polysaccharide synthesis locus (Psl), and pellicle exopolysaccharide (Pel) make up the biofilm matrix in P. aeruginosa . The effect of temperature on the biofilm formation and gene expression was examined by microtiter plate and real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). To be able to determine the effect of temperature on biofilm formation and gene expression of P. aeruginosa, 303 clinical and environmental samples were collected. Pseudomonas aeruginosa was isolated from 61 (20.1%) and 48 (15.8%) of the clinical and environmental samples, respectively. The ability …
