Machine Learning Based Approaches To Survey Elderly Adults About The Perception Of The Coronavirus Crisis, Ouban Wannous
Al-Farahidi Expert Systems Journal
The rapid digital transformation of society in recent years has resulted in the creation of vast databases available online, particularly benefiting businesses. The main challenge now is to effectively access and utilize this data to make informed business decisions. Artificial intelligence techniques, such as natural language processing and machine learning, have proven highly effective across various domains and present valuable opportunities for developing automated models to extract insights and uncover new information. This paper demonstrates the effectiveness of machine learning techniques in the field of social and economic sciences, focusing specifically on the task of classifying open-ended survey questions. We …

The Layered Knowledge Profile, Harendra A. Alwis Mr.

The Open Knowledge Format (OKF) gives the world a portable, vendor-neutral envelope for knowledge — markdown files with YAML frontmatter, cross-linked into a graph — and, by deliberate design, declines to specify how the knowledge inside that envelope should be organised, requiring only a single type field and defining the interoperability surface rather than the content model. The Layered Knowledge Profile (LKP) supplies the content model that OKF leaves open. It encodes, as machine-readable structure expressed entirely within OKF's own conventions, the asymmetric ontological dependency among the four realms of reality described by Alwis (2026), so that a body of …

"They Will Put You Out Of The Synagogues”: An Exegesis Of John 16:1-4a And Its Application To The Persecuted Christians In Northern Nigeria, Chiemeka Iwuagwu
Obsculta
This paper offers an exegesis of John 16:1-4a, a pivotal passage in Jesus' Farewell Discourse that warns the disciples of impending persecution, including expulsion from synagogues. Situating the text within the historical and literary context of the Johannine community, it explores how this forewarning reframes suffering as an integral aspect of faithful witness rather than divine abandonment. Drawing on key scholarly works, the analysis engages literary structure, historical reconstruction of community experiences, and theological motifs such as dualism and Christology. The paper then applies these insights to the plight of Christians in northern Nigeria, a region marked by violent persecution, …

Forest and Society
This article explores the socio-political and ecological dimensions of land acquisition in the context of Indonesia's Trans Sulawesi Railway Project, focusing on Salenrang Village in Maros Regency, South Sulawesi. Grounded in a critical ethnographic method, the research examines how affected agrarian communities respond to dispossession through differentiated strategies, ranging from passive acceptance and conditional negotiation to symbolic and moral resistance. These responses are shaped by unequal access to land tenure recognition, fragmented compensation mechanisms, and exclusion from participatory decision-making processes. Drawing on political ecology, critical agrarian studies, and the theory of everyday resistance, the study situates infrastructure development as a …
Exploring Gene Regulatory Neural Network Biocomputing Of Bacteria, Adrian Merle Ratwatte
Exploring Gene Regulatory Neural Network Biocomputing Of Bacteria, Adrian Merle Ratwatte
Dissertations and Doctoral Documents, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, 2023–
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has evolved from brain-inspired algorithms into a discipline that increasingly integrates with biological systems. While silicon-based platforms have advanced machine learning, they remain limited in energy efficiency and operation in environments beyond silicon. This motivates biological computing as an alternative, enabling efficient, resource-aware, and reconfigurable computing within living systems. This dissertation addresses these limitations by introducing a bacterial computing framework that models Gene Regulatory Networks (GRNs) as Gene Regulatory Neural Networks (GRNNs). The GRNN mirrors the structure and function of Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) through gene-gene interactions across trans-omic layers, enabling natural, self-regulating information processing within living …

JURNAL KOMUNIKASI INDONESIA
This study examines how Indonesian postgraduate women negotiate simultaneous roles as wives, mothers, workers, and students within a patriarchal collectivist culture. Using a qualitative case study with a constructivist orientation, the research focuses on six postgraduate students at the University of Indonesia who were selected through purposive criteria because they simultaneously managed family, work, and academic responsibilities. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, limited contextual observation, and supporting documents, and were analyzed using open, axial, and selective coding procedures. The findings show that role conflict is experienced not merely as a matter of time management, but as a layered burden …

Pay-To-Play, Gad Weiss
Pay-To-Play, Gad Weiss
BYU Law Review
Pay-to-play clauses are a surprisingly understudied feature of venture capital financing deals. These provisions are designed to act as enforcement agents, securing investors’ long-term commitment by penalizing those who decline to provide additional funding when their portfolio startups come calling. Through an analysis of a novel dataset of pay-to-play clauses, this paper uncovers surprising patterns in how U.S. startups design and deploy them—most notably, their tendency to discriminate among investors despite legal guidance suggesting otherwise. The paper illustrates how pay-to-play clauses can increase enterprise value by addressing flaws in startups’ governance and capital structures, preventing destructive “chicken” games among investor …

Passed Through Or Pushed Back? Exchange Rate Effects On Manufacturing Trade Prices In Indonesia And The Asean Plus Three, Fatikha Rizky Kurnia, Miguel Angel Esquivias, Wee-Yeap Lau, Unggul Heriqbaldi
Bulletin of Monetary Economics and Banking
This study analyzes the Exchange Rate Pass-Through (ERPT) on export and import prices in Indonesia’s manufacturing trade with ASEAN Plus-three countries (China, Japan, and South Korea) using monthly data from 2016 to 2022. Employing the Nonlinear (NARDL) models, we examine the degree and asymmetry of ERPT across five key manufacturing sectors for each partner. The NARDL model confirms asymmetric price responses to currency appreciation and depreciation in several sectors. The findings reveal significant sectoral and country-specific variations. Some export sectors experience complete pass-through in the short term but shift to negative complete passthrough in the long run. Meanwhile, imports from …

Bank Stability Under Global Risk Uncertainty: The Interplay Of Internal Characteristics And External Regulatory Environment, Erfan Rachmadi, Bowo Setiyono, Bimo Saktiawan, Muizzuddin Muizzuddin
Bulletin of Monetary Economics and Banking
This study examines the impact of global political and climate uncertainty on bank stability, utilizing panel data from 604 banks across 40 countries during the period 2011–2022. Through fixed effects and difference GMM methodologies, the analysis reveals that both geopolitical and climate risks adversely affect bank stability. Notably, tightening governance creates a ‘regulatory compliance paradox’ which leads to lower climate readiness and bank stability. We also identified that capital buffers matter in enhancing bank readiness to face geopolitical and climate uncertainty. However, efficiency plays a dual role. In times of geopolitical risk, it is necessary, but we also can’t achieve …

Bleeding Into Human Rights Law: The Need For A Special Procedure On The Right To Menstrual Health, Hunter Tarry
BYU Law Review
Menstruation, a fundamental biological process experienced by nearly half of the global population, remains shrouded in stigma and silence despite its critical role in sustaining human life. Many women and girls face inadequate menstrual health management and education, undermining their ability to experience a full range of human rights. While menstruation has gained increased public visibility in recent years, the United Nations (UN)—the cornerstone of the global human rights system—has been slow to meaningfully integrate this issue into its agenda. The time is now for the UN to formally recognize menstrual health as a human right by advancing global advocacy …
The Relationships Between Perceived Quality Of Sexual Educational Experiences From Multiple Sources And Sexual Wellbeing Outcomes In A Sample Of U.S. College Women, Alex Diede
Dissertations and Doctoral Documents, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, 2023–
Sexual education comes from many sources and is important for sexual wellbeing. Much of the research on relationships between sexual education and sexual wellbeing has examined specific sources (e.g., schools or parents) and outcomes related to sexual risk-reduction, such as contraceptive use (e.g., Lameiras-Fernández et al., 2021; Widman et al., 2016). Less is known about the relationships between sexual education and positive sexual wellbeing outcomes. This study used a sample of college women to examine the relationships between the perceived quality of sexual education before college from four sources (i.e., caregivers, school, peers, self) and sexual wellbeing outcomes, including ego-focused …

The Roots Of Sexual Violence In Utah: A Framework For Understanding Harm, Susan R. Madsen
The Roots Of Sexual Violence In Utah: A Framework For Understanding Harm, Susan R. Madsen
Marketing and Strategy Faculty Publications
Sexual violence in Utah is not an anomaly, a private tragedy, or the result of individual deviance. It is a patterned, predictable outcome of cultural norms, social systems, and power structures that shape how people understand gender, authority, and worth. Despite Utah’s reputation for strong families, close‑knit communities, and deep religious commitment, the state continues to report higher‑than‑national‑average rates of rape, child sexual abuse, and other forms of gender‑based harm. These realities demand a deeper understanding of why violence persists—and what can be done to prevent it.
This white paper synthesizes decades of national and international research, Utah‑specific data, and …

Beyond Autonomy: An Actor-Network Theory Study Of A Solo Exhibition In Indonesia, Rendy Pandita Bastari, Patra Aditia, Ganesha Puspa Nabila
Bahasa dan Seni: Jurnal Bahasa, Sastra, Seni, dan Pengajarannya
In many exhibition artists are often perceived as singular and autonomous actors. Departing from the critique of this tendency, this study examines the solo exhibition Toyscapes, After Us by Indonesian artist Hilman Hendarsyah (November 2025) as a case study through the lens of Actor-Network Theory (ANT), in order to understand art exhibition as relational and socio-material practices. This study traces how exhibitions are produced through interaction between human and non-human actors within heterogeneous network. The analysis was conducted by following the actors and mapping processes of problematization, translation, and network stabilization. The findings elucidates that solo exhibition cannot be understood …

Is Fdi A Panacea? Unveiling Spillover Effects On Efficiency And Risk In Indonesian Manufacturing, Fichrie Fachrowi Adli, Dyah Wulan Sari, Dian Enggar Lintang Pertiwi, Mohammad Zeqi Yasin
Bulletin of Monetary Economics and Banking
This study builds on Javorcik (2004), who argues that countries attract Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) with the expectation that spillovers will benefit local firms. However, empirical evidence on this effect remains inconsistent. This research addresses the gap by examining the impact of horizontal spillovers not only on production efficiency but also on production risk. It also accounts for firm heterogeneity in the manufacturing sector by classifying technological intensity using unsupervised machine learning, specifically K-means clustering, into three categories based on OECD (2011): High Technology (HT), Medium Technology (MT), and Low Technology (LT). The study uses data from Statistik Industri (SI) …

Increased demand for online and flexible classes after the COVID pandemic meant that college and university faculty were asked to incorporate more online components and emerging technology in their classrooms to meet the demand for more versatile course offerings. This time also brought increased pressure to create engaging classrooms and increase retention (Conner, 2021). Incorporating technology in classes requires training and professional development for instructors who are not accustomed to using technology or adjusting their course design to work with the technology they adopt (Prestridge, 2017). An effective teaching and learning center (TLC) could help focus professional development efforts and …

Dancing For Your Ka: Embodied Knowledge in the Ancient Egyptian Funerary Cult investigates the spiritual, cultural and social values and beliefs encoded in processional dances associated with the funerary cult at Beni Hassan. It assumes that, as is other ancient and modern religions, dance is a prayerful act that feeds into reciprocal relationships between humans and spiritual beings and asks what forms of embodied knowledges are archived in Middle Kingdom dance traditions. I propose the application Katherine Dunham’s Theories––Form and Function, Intercultural Communication and Socialization through the Arts––to help illuminate the relationship between dance, the dancing body and ritual knowledge. …

Improved Method Of Evaluating Gas-Phase Air Cleaners Considering Adsorption And Desorption Mechanisms To And From Internal Test Chamber Surfaces, Casey Douglas Coffland
Improved Method Of Evaluating Gas-Phase Air Cleaners Considering Adsorption And Desorption Mechanisms To And From Internal Test Chamber Surfaces, Casey Douglas Coffland
Dissertations and Theses
Portable air cleaners are playing an increasingly important role in managing indoor air quality in response to pressing issues like wildfire smoke events. Smoke is a complex mixture of gases and particulate matter; while established test methods exist for particulate matter, the dynamic behavior of gaseous pollutants is not well accounted for in current test methods. This is because prevailing air cleaner testing methods typically treat background losses as irreversible, whereas gases can engage in partitioning to and from test chamber surfaces. Ignoring these sorption interactions causes inaccurate estimation of an air cleaner's impact.
A new approach has been developed …
