An Eulerian-Pfem Approach To Model Transient Capillary Forces On Moving Contact Lines Of Spreading Liquid Drops: Applications In Hydraulic And Fluid Dynamics, Elaf N. Mahrous, Syed Yousufuddin, Muhammad Saleem Professor, Mohammed N. Iqbal, Muhammad T. Bin-Saleem

Journal of Engineering Research

This study addresses the complexities of simulating multiphase flows, particularly the dynamics of droplet behaviour on solid substrates, which are influenced by intricate capillary interactions. Despite advancements in fixed-grid and moving-grid methodologies, there remains a critical gap in accurately modelling transient phenomena and dissipative forces at the solid-liquid interface. We introduce a novel Eulerian-particle finite element method (PFEM) framework that captures the transient capillary forces associated with the movement of contact lines in liquid droplet spreading scenarios. Through a numerical assessment of three established dissipative force models—Jiang’s, Bracke’s, and Seeberg’s we identify Jiang's model as the most effective and stable …

Indonesian Journal of International Law

The Grundnorm is Hans Kelsen’s teaching that was integrated into his theory known as the Pure Theory of Law. The Grundnorm is the highest source of legal imperative, which is accepted by every individual human being, based on his free will to submit orders that are no longer debated because they are accepted as truth. The Grundnorm being the source of the validity of legal imperatives, it means that is the highest source of the validity of regulatory law within the scope of national and international law. This is the background of the justification of the Monism school, which is …

Engineering Cxcr2-Ligand-Based Fusion Proteins To Modulate Myeloid Cell Trafficking In Pancreatic Cancer, Benjamin N. Christopher Jun 2025

Engineering Cxcr2-Ligand-Based Fusion Proteins To Modulate Myeloid Cell Trafficking In Pancreatic Cancer, Benjamin N. Christopher

MUSC Theses and Dissertations

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) has one of the lowest 5-year survival rates of all cancers, and limited treatment options exist. Immunotherapy is effective in some cancer types, but the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment (TME) of PDAC is a barrier to effective immunotherapy. CXCR2+ myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) are abundant in PDAC tumors in humans and in mouse models. MDSCs suppress effector cell function, making them attractive targets for restoring anti-tumor immunity. The studies outlined in this dissertation (1) link tumor-intrinsic oncogenic signaling to dysregulated myeloid activity in PDAC, (2) describe a rationally designed fusion protein and potent inhibitor of CXCR2+ myeloid …

Challenging The Black Female Monolith In Film, Alexandria Kendall Morgan Jun 2025

Challenging The Black Female Monolith In Film, Alexandria Kendall Morgan

Theses - ALL

This thesis examines the lack of prominent Black female representation in film. This is a call to diversify the representation of Black female protagonists and characters in modern film, and to include Black female filmmakers in the industry as well. The exploration of films from the early twentieth century to present day shows both the progression and decline of diversifying Black female characters and giving them the jurisdiction to expand and express their identity; this includes an analysis of my own works and the themes that I explore. Through in-depth research of particular topics that relate to my overall statement, …

There Are No Good Landlords: Deconstructing Discourses Of The “Mom And Pop” Landlord In Syracuse, Ny, Natalie Mclaughlin

Theses - ALL

This thesis examines how landlords operating in Syracuse, NY’s high poverty neighborhoods use discourse to legitimize their class interests and reinforce their dominance in a postindustrial, neoliberalizing city. Drawing on interviews and participant observation with members of the Central New York Landlord Association, it explores how landlord narratives are shaped by, and help reproduce, the interconnected structures of urban neoliberalism, racial capitalism, and settler colonialism. While the City of Syracuse promotes redevelopment strategies to attract private capital and raise property values, many landlords continue to profit from long-term disinvestment and tenant confinement to the city’s poorest rental markets. Local landlord …

Regional Groundwater Flow And Advective Contaminant Transport Modeling In A Typical Hydrogeological Environment Of Northern New Jersey, Toritseju Oyen, Duke Ophori

Department of Earth and Environmental Studies Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works

This study develops a numerical model to simulate groundwater flow and contaminant transport in a “typical hydrogeological environment” of northern New Jersey, addressing freshwater decline. Focusing on the Lower Passaic water management area (WMA), we model chloride transport in a fractured-rock aquifer, where fracture networks control hydraulic conductivity and porosity. The urbanized setting—encompassing Montclair State University (MSU) and municipal wells—features heterogeneous groundwater systems and critical water resources, providing an ideal case study for worst-case contaminant transport scenarios. Using MODFLOW and MODPATH, we simulated flow and tracked particles over 20 years. Results show that chloride from MSU reached the Third River …

Alcohol & Substance Abuse Among Youth In South Africa, Carsyn R. Richins Jun 2025

Alcohol & Substance Abuse Among Youth In South Africa, Carsyn R. Richins

Journal of Nonprofit Innovation

South Africa is one of the riskiest drinking countries in the world, and its youth show some of the highest alcohol and substance abuse rates in the nation. In recent years, consumption rates among South African youth have increased while the average age of first use has decreased. This has led to higher levels of binge drinking, addiction, and dependency. This paper explores the root causes and long-term consequences of this growing issue. It argues that three primary factors — early and frequent exposure, poor governmental regulation, and the use of substances as a coping mechanism — have created a …

A Call For Change: Supporting Children With Tourette Syndrome, Matt Reall Jun 2025

A Call For Change: Supporting Children With Tourette Syndrome, Matt Reall

Journal of Nonprofit Innovation

Tourette Syndrome affects 1 in 100 U.S. children but remains widely misunderstood due to stigma, delayed diagnosis, and media misrepresentation. This neurological disorder is characterized by involuntary tics and often co-occurs with ADHD, anxiety, and sleep disorders. Children with Tourette Syndrome face disproportionate challenges in social, academic, and emotional settings—despite having average or above-average intelligence. One-third engage in self-harm, and suicide rates are four times the national average. Peer-education programs like the Tourette Association of America’s Youth Ambassador initiative have shown promise in reducing stigma, but unequal access and weak institutional support limit their impact. This paper calls for early …

Beyond The Head And The Hand: A Rhetorical Analysis Of Material Ethos In The Craftsman (1901-1905) And Make: (2005-2010) Magazines., Jason Markins Jun 2025

Beyond The Head And The Hand: A Rhetorical Analysis Of Material Ethos In The Craftsman (1901-1905) And Make: (2005-2010) Magazines., Jason Markins

Dissertations - ALL

This dissertation rhetorically analyzes appeals to material ethos in The Craftsman and Make: magazines in order to identify two historical considerations of craftwork and craftsperson identities. I argue that these case studies represent two approaches towards craft at historical moments when automation and industrialization were disrupting what it meant to be a craftsperson or maker. While ethos has traditionally been thought of as a rhetorical relationship among rhetors and audiences, within these magazines ethos is treated as a relationship between craftspeople and nonhuman materials. Drawing upon posthuman and new materialist feminist theorists, I consider how writing and rhetoric scholars might …

The Dead Still Walk: White Masculinity And The World Of The Walking Dead, Connor Knowlan

Theses - ALL

In this thesis, I explore how the television program The Walking Dead discusses white masculinity in a variety of contexts. Through a reading of the character of Daryl Dixon and the actor who portrays him, Norman Reedus, the thesis examines how the construction of white masculinity animates both fictional character and star persona. The study reveals that television programs like The Walking Dead can help to discuss larger social issues, such as white masculinity, in a fictional setting to highlight themes such as redemption and the postracial fantasy in a way that challenges traditional social understandings of the world. The …
