Building Bridges: Co-Producing Philanthropic Public-Private Partnerships For The United States National Park System, Jason S. Northern

Dissertations

The sustainability of America's National Park System increasingly relies on public–private partnerships that leverage private philanthropy. While the National Park Foundation provides national support, local Park Partner nonprofit organizations, like the Gateway Arch Park Foundation, are key to community-level fundraising and advocacy. This qualitative study of the St. Louis Arch grounds renovation examines how this public–private partnership structure influences donor motivation, trust, and engagement. Guided by Social Exchange Theory and Resource Dependency Theory, this research explores the relational and structural dynamics of this philanthropic co-production including reciprocal donor motivations and interdependence among public, private, and nonprofit partners. Fifteen semi-structured interviews …

A Rendezvous With Destiny: The President's Ftc Removals And The Rule Of Law, George Sakkopoulos Nov 2025

A Rendezvous With Destiny: The President's Ftc Removals And The Rule Of Law, George Sakkopoulos

Cleveland State Law Review

In March 2025, the President removed two commissioners of the Federal Trade Commission (“FTC”). The removed commissioners called the removals unlawful and challenged them in court, citing the FTC Act’s for-cause removal protection and the Supreme Court’s decision in Humphrey’s. After President Roosevelt removed an FTC commissioner, the Supreme Court in Humphrey’s in 1935 upheld the constitutionality of the FTC Act’s removal limitation based on the FTC being expert, nonpartisan/independent, quasi-judicial, and quasi-legislative. The Court in Seila in 2020 held that the President has “unrestricted removal power” as to the executive branch unless the Humphrey’s exception for “multimember expert …

Unfollowing Censorship: A Policy-Oriented Analysis Of Government Pressure On Social Media Content Management, William C. Morgan Nov 2025

Unfollowing Censorship: A Policy-Oriented Analysis Of Government Pressure On Social Media Content Management, William C. Morgan

Cleveland State Law Review

The introduction of social media has facilitated communications and connectivity globally. However, in recent years, social media companies have started to adopt content moderation practices that are directly influenced by government pressure to comply with their requests to arrange information. Typically, these newly adopted practices often aim to censor or diminish the exposure of certain views, comments, and/or posts that the U.S. government, through its actors, dislike or find threatening to national security. This paper examines how informal government outreach to indirectly monitor, and control social media companies’ content moderation practices undermine the platforms’ constitutionally protected editorial autonomy. Consequently, this …

Israel's Blockade Of Gaza Was Legal; Withholding Humanitarian Aid, Not So Much, Menachem Z. Rosensaft Nov 2025

Israel's Blockade Of Gaza Was Legal; Withholding Humanitarian Aid, Not So Much, Menachem Z. Rosensaft

Cornell Law Faculty Working Papers

Last month, the International Court of Justice rebuked Israel in an advisory opinion for blocking humanitarian aid into Gaza during the course of the Israel-Hamas war there and emphasized that starvation of civilian populations as a method of warfare is prohibited under prevailing international humanitarian law. Predictably, Israel’s UN ambassador dismissed the advisory opinion as “shameful.”

Now that the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza is in the rearview mirror, it is important to assess the legal and moral aspects and ramifications of Israel’s two-year blockade of Gaza. Specifically, the question that needs to be asked, but that does not have a …

Optimization Of Bioethanol From Plantain Peel Using Saccharomyces Cerevisiae, Akinjide A. Akinola, Olawole O. Olanipekun, Paul A. David Nov 2025

Optimization Of Bioethanol From Plantain Peel Using Saccharomyces Cerevisiae, Akinjide A. Akinola, Olawole O. Olanipekun, Paul A. David

Mansoura Engineering Journal

This research aimed to evaluate the potential of using plantain peels as a raw material for producing bioethanol with the help of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The study utilized a four-factor Box-Behnken design (BBD) and response surface methodology (RSM) to optimize the fermentation conditions. The factors considered for optimization were substrate concentration (1-4 g), pH (5-7), temperature (30-45°C), and fermentation time (24-96 hours). Through this optimization process, the study found that the optimal conditions for bioethanol production were 4 g substrate concentration, pH 6, 45°C temperature, and 60 hours of fermentation time. Utilizing these optimal conditions resulted in a bioethanol yield of …

Alaska Aviation Weather Infrastructure: Outage Patterns And Strategic Prioritization, Michael Jones, Greg Dyer Nov 2025

Alaska Aviation Weather Infrastructure: Outage Patterns And Strategic Prioritization, Michael Jones, Greg Dyer

ISER Reports

Alaska is the most aviation dependent state in the United States of America, with almost a quarter of the population and the majority of named communities lying off of the limited road system. The importance of reliable aviation transportation, and the infrastructure underlying these networks, is paramount for these communities. However, the vast distances, remoteness, and rugged environments that make aviation so critical also make maintaining aviation infrastructure particularly challenging. The goal of this report is to serve as a reference document for mapping outages in a subset of core aviation infrastructure – aviation weather stations. We have gathered what …

"There Was Such An Array Of Circumstances Pointing To Defendant's Guilt…": Shepard V. United States And The Dying Declaration As A Legal, Social, And Political History Of People, Places, Times… And Utility, Joshua E. Kastenberg Nov 2025

"There Was Such An Array Of Circumstances Pointing To Defendant's Guilt…": Shepard V. United States And The Dying Declaration As A Legal, Social, And Political History Of People, Places, Times… And Utility, Joshua E. Kastenberg

Cleveland State Law Review

In 1933, the Court, in Shepard v. United States, limited the “dying declaration” exception to the prohibition against hearsay. Shepard has been cited over 500 times by courts of appeal, the decision appears in evidence casebooks, and scholars have challenged it as robbing the voice of victims. However, there has never been a legal history of the decision. The case arose from a criminal conviction that occurred in the last days of the “Roaring Twenties,” and the appeal transited through the courts in the first years of the Great Depression. The Court, in a unanimous decision authored by Justice …

The Nuclear Option: Preempting Power Generation, Keith Wadley Nov 2025

The Nuclear Option: Preempting Power Generation, Keith Wadley

Et Cetera

Nuclear power is a topic which many feel strongly about. Unfortunately, much of the information present in public discourse is a product of fear, misinformation, and a general lack of understanding regarding what nuclear power is and does. This note seeks to clear up the murky waters of the topic by presenting some basic factual information contrary to common misconceptions while also seeking to argue, in light of this information, that Congress should, and currently has the power to, prevent states from prohibiting the use of nuclear power. Congress passed the Energy Reorganization Act of 1974 which preempts the field …

What's My Age Again? The Curious Case Of Natalia Grace And The Constitutional Void In Re-Aging Law, Lauren Gay Nov 2025

What's My Age Again? The Curious Case Of Natalia Grace And The Constitutional Void In Re-Aging Law, Lauren Gay

Et Cetera

When a child’s legal age can be judicially reclassified without rigorous procedural safeguards, the foundations of American due process erode. This article explores the alarming constitutional vacuum exposed by the case of Natalia Grace, an adopted Ukrainian child whose age was legally reclassified from eight to twenty-two without procedural safeguards such as a hearing, legal counsel, or evidentiary testing. Unlike competency or parental rights proceedings, re-aging decisions lack uniform standards, judicial transparency, or appellate recourse. This article argues that re-aging implicates fundamental liberty interests and must be governed by heightened due process protections. Drawing on comparative models from guardianship and …

White Supremacy And The Legitimation Of Violence Against Women: Analyzing The History And Impact Of Vawa, Ember Jahn Nov 2025

White Supremacy And The Legitimation Of Violence Against Women: Analyzing The History And Impact Of Vawa, Ember Jahn

Et Cetera

This article confronts the mainstream feminist narrative that white women first addressed patriarchal violence en mass in the 1970s. Instead, this article traces back to Black women who advocated against lynching and sexual violence in the late 1800s as the first attempt to address systemic violence against women. They engaged in womanism, or the fight for Black people’s right to experience safety and discover a sense of wholeness. Their efforts led to the proliferation of numerous movements in the 1900s. Despite how crucial their efforts were to the formation of the feminist movement; many white feminists remained hostile and engaged …

It Takes A Village: Why Developing Community And Implementing Collaborative Teaching Methods In The Legal Classroom Fosters True Inclusivity, Activates Active Learning, And Promotes The Attainment Of True Knowledge-Creating Students Who Are Better Prepared For The Practice Of Law, Erica L. Kravchenko Nov 2025

Kravchenko

Cleveland State Law Review

Legal education has long relied on traditional teaching methods, such as the Socratic, case-dialogue and lecture methods, which prioritize individualism and competition over collaboration. While these methods have historically shaped legal pedagogy, they no longer adequately prepare students for the evolving demands of legal practice. This Article examines the impact of traditional teaching methods on the changing demographic of law students and offers collaborative learning as a potential solution. Specifically, this Article argues that incorporating collaborative learning and fostering a sense of community in legal education are essential for developing well-rounded, practice-ready attorneys. Through an analysis of the legal education’s …

Communication, Education, And Trust: Exploring Client Compliance, Treatment Plan Adherence, And Perceived Patient Outcomes In Veterinary Medicine, Isabella J. Eads

Honors College Theses

Unlike human physicians, veterinarians are unable to directly communicate with their patients and must utilize client-veterinarian interactions to achieve the desired level of patient care. Communication, client education, and trust have been previously identified as important aspects of veterinary clinical interaction, and this study aimed to assess how these variables influence client compliance, treatment plan adherence, and perceived patient outcomes in veterinary medicine. This study utilized an electronic survey to collect data from 68 participants in regard to research questions centered around client-veterinarian interactions and how they play a role in client perception and overall patient care. Screening questions and …

Marketing Pakistan’S Image, Ishrat Husain Dr.

Faculty Research - Talks, Speeches, & Discourse

People buy brands, not products. That is the age-old, established fact supported by extensive research that every marketer worth his or her salt would always stand by. The interesting thing is that these days, development and pursuance of a successful brand strategy is no longer the sole domain of corporate entities alone, but has seen a cross-over to politics and Governments also. Indeed, many Government now endeavor to transform themselves and operate as corporate entities. Malaysia Inc. is one example. So branding is the key to success. Having said that, the marketers in this audience will vouch that branding is …

An Exploration Of Image Segmentation Techniques For Real-Time Product Detection, Andrew C. Dunton Nov 2025

An Exploration Of Image Segmentation Techniques For Real-Time Product Detection, Andrew C. Dunton

Master's Theses

Recent progress in LLMs enables advanced multimodal understanding, but their high computational cost necessitates monetization strategies like interactive advertising. While bounding boxes show promise for this concept, they can lack precision and visual appeal. Image segmentation offers a superior solution but faces a dual problem: traditional models demand scarce, costly training data, and open-vocabulary segmentation models like SAM are class-agnostic, unable to semantically identify a "consumer product" object class. In this research, we address these limitations by: 1) developing the Prompt-Guided Inpainting Framework (PGIF), which injects negative prompts to generate robustly annotated synthetic segmented product images; 2) investigating the Class-Agnostic …

Introduction Deaths related to drug overdose and suicide in the USA have increased 500% and 35%, respectively, over the last two decades. The human and economic costs to society associated with these - €- deaths of despair' are immense. Great efforts and substantial investments have been made in treatment and prevention, yet these efforts have not abated these increasing trajectories of deaths over time. The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated and highlighted these problems. Notably, some geographical areas (eg, Appalachia, farmland) and some communities (eg, low-income persons, - €- essential workers', minoritised populations) have been disproportionately affected. Risk factors have been …
