Faculty Attitudes Toward Preparing Bsn Students For Practice In Hospital And Non-Hospital Settings, Lisa Victoria Radley
Biennial Convention (CONV)
The ongoing nursing shortage, worsened in recent years following the COVID-19 pandemic, has resulted in increasing concerns about future deficits in the nursing workforce. Changes in nursing education have been recommended to ensure the next generation of nurses are willing and prepared to meet the needs of an ageing population. Nursing faculty have important roles in the education and mentoring of students to prepare them to care for diverse populations in a variety of practice settings. Understanding faculty attitudes about these changes and whether there are long-held beliefs or ‘sacred cow’ practices that may be challenged is an essential first …

In the pursuit of global health equity, ensuring equal access to the nursing profession for students with disabilities is essential. Despite progress in disability inclusion in medical education, foundational data on disabled nursing students remains scarce. This study, completed by Access in Nursing, addresses this gap by quantifying disability prevalence and accommodations among students in U.S. traditional prelicensure Bachelor of Science in Nursing programs. Through a cross-sectional design, national data were collected between April and July 2024 from 19 nursing programs accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
Through adapted questionnaires, data were gathered on disability prevalence, types, and …

Newly Graduated Registered Nurses Evolving Identity Of Social Justice: A Novel Middle-Range Theory, Mary Erin Hoying, Karen J. Foli, Vicki Simpson, Dongjuan Xu
Biennial Convention (CONV)
Background: Nursing has long been rooted in social justice, with many pioneering figures advocating for health equity in marginalized communities (Pittman, 2019; Thurman, 2017). The 31% attrition rate among New Graduate Registered Nurses (NGRNs), many of whom leave within their first year, may reflect moral distress faced in environments where equity is not prioritized (ANA, 2015; Epstein et al., 2020; National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, 2021). There is a pressing need for a stronger focus on preparing NGRNs to incorporate social justice into practice to improve community health outcomes.
Purpose: NGRNs undergo significant professional and personal transformations during …
Bring Your Own Device — Now Hand It Over! Rescuing Workers’ Privacy During Data Searches, Virginia Mantouvalou, Michael Veale
Bring Your Own Device — Now Hand It Over! Rescuing Workers’ Privacy During Data Searches, Virginia Mantouvalou, Michael Veale
Comparative Labor Law & Policy Journal
Technological advancements pose serious threats to workers’ privacy. This article focuses on practices that greatly blur the line between workers’ private life and life at work, such as the practices of “bring your own device,” and linking cloud storage to personal and work devices. The first sees workers allowed to use personal devices for work-related activities, potentially for several employers. The second sees workers using online storage for personal and professional reasons, linking this storage to personal and work devices. Such practices can be useful for workers. However, they also present challenges for workers’ privacy, particularly when other legal frameworks …
Data-Driven Collective Rights, Tomer Shadmy
Data-Driven Collective Rights, Tomer Shadmy
Comparative Labor Law & Policy Journal
Technological asymmetries in data-driven workplaces increasingly shape power dynamics between employers and employees. This article argues that safeguarding workers’ rights requires transforming collective labour rights into collective technological capabilities. Rather than viewing data rights narrowly as privacy issues, it reframes them as central to broader labour protections. As artificial intelligence enhances employers’ ability to monitor and exploit worker data, workers must be equipped with tools to analyse and act on their collective data. Employers now extract significant value from aggregated personal data, positioning workers as unwitting data providers and limiting workers’ agency. While current laws focus on individual data rights, …
It Takes Three To Tango: Labour Law, Data Protection, And Collective Voice For The Regulation Of New Technologies In The Workplace, Emanuele Dagnino
It Takes Three To Tango: Labour Law, Data Protection, And Collective Voice For The Regulation Of New Technologies In The Workplace, Emanuele Dagnino
Comparative Labor Law & Policy Journal
The prospect of algorithmic management of workers poses a risk to their dignity, freedom, health and safety and privacy. In their responses to this changed context, German, Italian, and Spanish labour regulators have taken different approaches. This article compares each jurisdiction’s approach to regulation by considering their distinctive features, functions, and objectives. The article goes on to consider the degree to which each jurisdiction’s approach to technological innovation in the workplace is a product of path-dependency, i.e., the extent to which responses to historical technological innovations in the workplace and established conceptions of the exercise of managerial prerogatives through technologies …
Accelerating The Degradation Of Biodegradable Mulch Films In Soil And Compost Environments, Harshal Jayesh Kansara
Accelerating The Degradation Of Biodegradable Mulch Films In Soil And Compost Environments, Harshal Jayesh Kansara
Theses
The incomplete degradation of biodegradable mulch films (BMFs) in agricultural soils poses environmental challenges, with persistent plastic residues impacting soil health. This dissertation investigates the use of bioaugmentation with P. guariconensis to enhance BMF degradation under laboratory, raised bed, and field conditions. The research focuses on optimizing microbial delivery methods, evaluating the efficacy of drip and spray bioaugmentation techniques, and assessing mass loss as a primary metric for degradation. Laboratory experiments established proof-of-concept by demonstrating enhanced carbon mineralization, weight loss, and fragmentation of BMFs under bioaugmented conditions. These findings were translated to field-scale trials, where bioaugmentation treatments consistently outperformed untreated …

Peninsula Medical School
Introduction Three-quarters of mental health problems start before the age of 25. However, young people are the least likely to receive mental healthcare. Some young people (such as those from ethnic minorities) are even less likely to receive mental healthcare than others. Long-term impacts of mental health problems include poorer physical health, relationships, education and employment. We aim to elicit the views, experiences and needs of diverse young people (aged 16–24 years), to better understand (1) their experiences of under-representation, mental health and coping, (2) mechanisms that shape mental health trajectories and (3) how online arts and culture might be …

Automated Feature Engineering And Multi-Stage Selection For Time-Series Forecasting, Leonid Kuligin, Thomas Zettl
Automated Feature Engineering And Multi-Stage Selection For Time-Series Forecasting, Leonid Kuligin, Thomas Zettl
Defensive Publications Series
The time-series forecasting, for example in supply chain management, can be challenged by high-dimensional and noisy market data, which may lead to model overfitting and the inclusion of spurious correlations. A framework for automated feature engineering and multi-stage selection can help address these challenges. The process can programmatically generate a large set of potential features, such as time-lagged variables, from heterogeneous data sources. A multi-stage selection protocol can then be applied, which may first use correlation-based filtering to prune features, followed by an iterative, model-driven stage that uses backtesting to evaluate and promote features based on their predictive value. This …

Exploring Future Educators’ Roles In Classroom Aac Use: Insight Into Knowledge, Skills, And Attitudes, Katrina M. King
Honors College Theses
The United States public school system requires the provision of a free and appropriate public education (FAPE) in the least restrictive environment (LRE) for qualifying students with disabilities (U.S. Department of Education, n.d.). Speech, language, and hearing related disabilities are among the qualifying categories (U.S. Department of Education, n.d.). Students with these disabilities may have complex communication needs (CCN), or significant limitations in their speech, language, and communication abilities (Communication Rights Australia, 2018). Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), a type of assistive technology, offers support for these students, however, several barriers inhibit full communicative participation (American Speech-Language-Hearing Association [ASHA], n.d.-a). …
The Impact Of Adverse And Positive Childhood Experiences And Moral Injury On Compassion Fatigue Among Law-Enforcement Officers And First-Responders, Kaylee Nesland
Doctor of Psychology (PsyD)
More than ever, United States law enforcement officers are overworked, under-trained, and exposed to a great deal of trauma. Societal pressure to display strength and resilience, as well as fears of judgement and loss of job security, inhibit law enforcement officers from accessing psychological treatment and support (Drew & Martin, 2021). Without mental health support in place, compassion fatigue reveals itself, ultimately causing hurt and damage to individuals in law enforcement and those they interact with. This study examined whether adverse or positive childhood experiences affect compassion fatigue among law enforcement officers. Participants of this study—current and historical law enforcement …
