Cmsi Note 18: Flooding The Zone: The Use Of Civilian Landing Craft (Lcts) In Pla Amphibious Operations, Thomas Shugart, J. Michael Dahm
CMSI Notes
In July and August 2025, China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) employed a unique type of civilian deck cargo ship known as a Landing Craft Tank (LCT) to transport military vehicles directly to shore as part of an amphibious landing exercise. While civilian deck cargo ships of this type have been observed in previous PLA over-the-shore logistics exercises, they had only been used to transport vehicles and equipment from port-to-port—simulating the transport of forces into a captured port—not directly to an unimproved beachhead. If the PLA develops the ability to coordinate and employ significant numbers of civilian LCTs to transport forces …
A Policy Reversal As Structural Break: A Lesson From China’S Land Lease Financing For Infrastructure, Yilin Hou, Lin Li, Lei Shao
A Policy Reversal As Structural Break: A Lesson From China’S Land Lease Financing For Infrastructure, Yilin Hou, Lin Li, Lei Shao
Center for Policy Research
Land-based revenues as a fiscal instrument to finance infrastructure tie public investment to real estate markets, where demand fluctuations cause fiscal consequences. This paper takes policy reversals as structural breaks and examines their impacts on infrastructure investment. We dissect China’s 2016 policy reversal that disallowed developers to finance land purchase with debt, causing sharp declines in local government land revenues, slashing their fiscal base for infrastructure investment. Using prefecture-level panel data and continuous difference-in-differences identification, we estimate the reversal reduced land-lease revenues by 55%. Two-stage least squares estimates suggest a 10% land-revenue decline translates into 6.6% investment reduction. Decomposing the …
Coworkers' Lived Experiences Of Being Exposed To Healthcare Professionals Misusing Substances, Juratu Garuba-Agbebaku
Coworkers' Lived Experiences Of Being Exposed To Healthcare Professionals Misusing Substances, Juratu Garuba-Agbebaku
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Despite the harm of substances, coworkers in hospitals, healthcare facilities, and urgent care centers found themselves among healthcare professionals who misused substances such as alcohol and prescription medication. Grounded in social cognitive theory, the purpose of this qualitative descriptive phenomenological study was to explore the lived experiences of coworkers who have been exposed to healthcare professionals’ substance misuse. The participants consisted of 12 healthcare professionals working in various hospitals, healthcare facilities, and urgent care centers in the United States. Data were collected using semistructured interviews. Through Colaizzi’s seven-step analysis, five themes emerged: (a) emotional experiences, (b) ethical reflections, (c) cognitive …
Investigating The Role Of Team Chemistry In Winning Percentage Of Collegiate Women’S Soccer Teams At The End Of A Fall Competitive Season, Erin Kasmarik-Mallett
Investigating The Role Of Team Chemistry In Winning Percentage Of Collegiate Women’S Soccer Teams At The End Of A Fall Competitive Season, Erin Kasmarik-Mallett
Doctorate in Kinesiology
This study examined the relationship between team chemistry and winning percentage in collegiate women’s soccer teams following a fall competitive season. Using a quantitative, correlational design, team-level survey data assessing cohesion, team mental models, collective efficacy, and leadership were aggregated and analyzed in relation to end-of-season performance. Pearson correlations and linear regression analyses indicated a positive association between overall team chemistry and winning percentage, with team mental models and collective efficacy showing the strongest relationships. These findings support team chemistry as a measurable, multidimensional contributor to performance success and provide empirical guidance for coaches seeking evidence-based strategies to enhance team …

Collaborating With ‘Blue Food’ System Stakeholders To Achieve Optimal Nutritional Health And Wellbeing In Less Affluent Communities, Clare Pettinger, Louise Hunt, Carol Wagstaff
Collaborating With ‘Blue Food’ System Stakeholders To Achieve Optimal Nutritional Health And Wellbeing In Less Affluent Communities, Clare Pettinger, Louise Hunt, Carol Wagstaff
School of Health Professions
UK food system transformation is urgently needed, but to date, minimal research has investigated ‘blue foods’ probably because they are ethically nuanced. There exists a paradox whereby materially deprived communities should be eating more fish to meet nutritional requirements, yet there is a global ‘red flag’ around global overfishing. New collaborative and creative solutions are, therefore, needed to tackle such food system inequities. By working together, all voices can be equally heard when decisions are being made to improve the system. Similarly, innovation and disruption of established supply chains will enable better access to healthy, affordable and tasty food that …
Continuous Ambient Microphone Calibration Via Opportunistic Broadband Auditory Icons, Rajeev Nongpiur, Chris Breithaupt
Continuous Ambient Microphone Calibration Via Opportunistic Broadband Auditory Icons, Rajeev Nongpiur, Chris Breithaupt
Defensive Publications Series
Performance drift in microphone arrays is often caused by environmental factors such as dust, moisture, and grime accumulating over time. This spectral mismatch degrades the performance of spatial audio algorithms that rely on precise array calibration. To address this limitation, a continuous calibration method is disclosed wherein broadband earcons are opportunistically played through device speakers. Audio responses are recorded by on-device microphones during defined user scenarios. A background model is generated to filter out environmental noise and room reverberation from these recordings. Subsequently, the filtered in-field measurement is compared against a reference factory template to estimate spectral deviation. A calibration …

A next-generation approach to network Quality of Service (QoS) is proposed herein that enables direct, in-band communication of application intent using an innovative extension header, such as an Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) extension header. Using the proposed innovation, applications can embed concise, high-level QoS requirement strings or "intents" (e.g., 'ultra-low latency', 'AI/ML Training', etc.) into packet headers, allowing ingress edge devices to interpret these intents using a local policy database. Advanced matching engines, potentially leveraging machine learning, can enable flexible and semantically rich interpretation of these requirements/intents, surpassing traditional rigid classifications.

Animals respond to changes in their environment and internal states via neuromodulation. Neuropeptides modulate neural circuits with flexibility because 1 gene can produce either multiple copies of the same neuropeptide or different neuropeptides. However, with this architectural complexity, the function of discrete and active neuropeptides is muddled. Here, we design a genetic tool that facilitates functional analysis of individual peptides. We engineered Escherichia coli bacteria to express active peptides, fed loss-of-function Caenorhabditis elegans, and rescued the activity of genes with varying lengths and functions: pdf-1, flp-3, ins-6, and ins-22. Some peptides were functionally redundant, while others exhibit unique and previously …

ESR1 mutations are the leading cause of endocrine therapy resistance and progression in ER-positive metastatic breast cancer. ESR1 mutations are detected in ~50% of metastatic breast cancer patients, and identification of effective targeted therapeutics are critically needed. Here, we identified enrichment of dysregulated replication stress and DNA damage responses in multiple ESR1 mutant models. Targeting the replication stress response utilizing checkpoint inhibition in combination with PARP inhibition synergistically suppressed growth, induced cell cycle arrest, and attenuated DNA replication. PARP inhibition blocked metastatic dissemination in vivo and reduced both PARP1 and ER-regulated protein expression. PARP trapping by olaparib treatment with or …

Qualitative And Numerical Observations Into The Career Trajectories Of Early Career Academics: A Mathematical Model Approach, Oluwatayo M. Ogunmiloro
Tanzania Journal of Science
This study develops and analyzes a mathematical model that describes the interplay among different researcher groups within academia by focusing on how variables such as mentorship, access to funding, and academic peer influence affect the career trajectories of early-career, experienced, redundant, and successful researchers. Using stability theory and relevant theorems of differential equations, this study ensures the existence, uniqueness, positivity, and boundedness of the model's solutions. Additionally, the model’s equilibrium states, are analyzed to determine the local asymptotic stability. Numerical simulations using the Runge-Kutta fourth-order (RK4) method, implemented in Python, are performed to illustrate issues related to career growth within …
