Penatalaksanaan Kandidiasis Oral Disebabkan Candida Tropicalis Pada Anak Dengan Gangguan Sistemik, Cane Lukisari, Dwi Setyaningtyas, Mintarsih Djamhari

Dentofasial

Oral candidiasis is an oral mucosal infection caused by Candida albicans (CA) or
non-Candida albicans Candida (NCAC). C. tropicalis (CT) is most virulent NCAC
because it has the most adherence ability to epithelial cells in vitro as well as medium
level proteinase secretion. In addition, CT is the second most common colony found in
human. Although incidence rate of oral infection was low, this species has virulence
potency, lately reported as the mayor cause of candidemia in immunocompromised
patients. This paper reports and discusses oral candidiasis due to CT in a child who
suffered anemia with clinical sign of malnutrition. …

Orthodontic treatment usually involves tooth movement. The orthodontic force as an
extrinsic mechanical stimulus, evokes a biologic cellular response in the periodontal
supporting ligament. At early stage, it causes inflammation of periodontal tissue
which is followed by the release of cytokines, T cell, B cell, and then MMP enzyme.
MMP-8 (collagenase 2) is a member of matrixin subfamily plays an important role in
periodontal ligament remodeling. It has capability to maintain the cellular structure,
integrity, activity, and function of extracellular matrix of periodontal tissue. The main
component of extracellular matrix is tissue protein, i.e. collagen, fibronectin, and
glicosaminoglycan. During orthodontic …

Journal of the Jussi Björling Societies of the USA & UK

Wonderful people that they are, Karl and Toby Hekler no doubt have been called by nicer names or described in more flattering terms in the past. For the purpose of this report, however, let’s just called them catalysts. Many of you reading these lines attended our successful inaugural Jussi Björling Society-USA conference in Washington, D. C., last June. The organizers were kind enough to invite me to speak, and through a series of coincidences I chose for my topic “Ma se m’è forza perderti,” the third act aria of Un ballo in maschera that Björling consistently and inexplicably omitted in …

The Academic Lives Of Commuter Students: Examining The Use Of The Physical And Digital Spaces Within The Contemporary University, Rebecca Turner, Rao Namrata, Christie Pritchard, Oliver Webb, Emily Pinn, Asal Baharloo, Harriet Ball

Professional Services

It is estimated that 40% of UK undergraduates commute to study, travelling varying distances, and often daily. Although commuting can be challenging, many learners see it as a way to access university, whilst maintaining existing commitments and support networks, and offsetting growing costs of higher education (HE). This study employed a novel participatory mapping technique to stimulate focus groups of second- and third-year undergraduates who commute. We explored participants’ engagement with their institution’s campus, and online/digital spaces. Our findings show commuters have nuanced and intentional interactions with the University’s physical and digital landscape. We consider how these interactions may be …

Faculty, Staff and Student Publications

Background: Chronic low back pain (cLBP) is a prevalent and disabling condition in older adults. Auricular point acupressure (APA), a nonpharmacologic intervention, has shown promise in managing cLBP. However, its impact on daily symptom fluctuations remains unclear. Ecological momentary assessment (EMA), which collects real-time data, offers a method to capture these fluctuations.

Objective: This secondary analysis evaluated the effects of APA on EMA-reported pain intensity and pain interference among older adults with cLBP and examined associations among APA practice patterns, recall-based assessments, and EMA engagement.

Methods: Data were drawn from a published 3-arm randomized controlled trial of 272 adults aged …

Immigration Enforcement And Origin Country Labor Markets, Thomas Pearson Mar 2026

Immigration Enforcement And Origin Country Labor Markets, Thomas Pearson

Center for Policy Research

This paper studies how increased immigration enforcement in the destination country impacts labor markets in the origin country. Using variation in Mexican migrant networks and Secure Communities (SC), a policy which expanded local immigration enforcement, I show that the deportation of Mexican migrants from the U.S. increases return migration to Mexico and decreases monthly earnings for workers in Mexico. The negative earnings effects are largest for workers most similar to return migrants in terms of their demographics, occupations, and employment types, and are consistent with increased labor market competition.

Why We Work: Examining The Relationships Between Nurse Compensation, Burnout, And Intention To Leave Nursing, Jacqueline Christianson, Jill Guttormson, Maharaj Singh, Abir Bekhet, Norah Louise Johnson Mar 2026

Why We Work: Examining The Relationships Between Nurse Compensation, Burnout, And Intention To Leave Nursing, Jacqueline Christianson, Jill Guttormson, Maharaj Singh, Abir Bekhet, Norah Louise Johnson

Creating Healthy Work Environments (CHWE)

Purpose: The ongoing nursing shortage contributes to chronic nurse understaffing, which is associated with care rationing and adverse patient outcomes (Kiekkas et al., 2019 Tubbs-Cooley et al., 2019). Burnout-related attrition from the nursing profession is particularly problematic to the nursing workforce because it is both prevalent and preventable (Shah et al., 2021). Intention to leave the profession prior to anticipated retirement has been associated with burnout, however the nursing shortage has been observed to fluctuate in tandem with the availability of alternative economic opportunities (Benson, 2012). Additionally, many nurses self-report intention to stay in the profession despite burnout for financial …

Computational Modeling Of Enhanced Nonlinear Optical Response In Plasmonic Waveguide Devices With Epsilon-Near-Zero Films, Kevin T. Le, Mark C. Harrison Mar 2026

Computational Modeling Of Enhanced Nonlinear Optical Response In Plasmonic Waveguide Devices With Epsilon-Near-Zero Films, Kevin T. Le, Mark C. Harrison

Engineering Faculty Articles and Research

Silicon photonics faces fundamental limitations in nonlinear applications due to weak Kerr nonlinearity, substantial two-photon absorption, and coupling challenges with subwavelength structures. This work investigates epsilon-near-zero (ENZ) materials integrated into plasmonic waveguide architectures for enhanced nonlinear photonic devices. ENZ materials exhibit nonlinear refractive indices several orders of magnitude higher than conventional materials near their zero-permittivity wavelength, enabling giant optical effects over deeply sub-wavelength interaction lengths. We present finite element method simulations of plasmonic ENZ waveguides, investigating layer thickness optimization for nonlinear enhancement while minimizing optical losses. Initial modal analysis confirms superior field confinement in hybrid plasmonic-ENZ structures compared to conventional …

Leading With Dignity: Addressing Occupational Stigma Through Inclusive Leadership Practices In Early Childhood Education, Elizabeth Terry

Doctorate in Education

Early childhood education (ECE) leaders navigate a historically undervalued and stigmatized profession, facing unique challenges in advocating for workforce recognition. This study examined how ECE leaders enact inclusive leadership practices despite systemic constraints. By exploring leaders' experiences across diverse organizational contexts, this research contributes to understanding professional dignity and leadership in caring professions. This qualitative study used semi-structured interviews with six early childhood leaders across diverse organizational contexts in Western Washington. Through thematic analysis, five themes emerged: (a) advocacy as an integrated leadership identity, (b) confronting occupational stigma and professional invisibility, (c) relational leadership practices as a foundation for inclusion, …

What Can I Share—And Where? Digital Literacy, Open Licenses, And Faculty Publishing Pathways, Victoria Peters

Library Faculty Publications

Faculty create a wide range of digital materials – articles, syllabi, datasets, lecture media, public scholarship and creative work – but questions about copyright, licensing and “where this work belongs” often create barriers to sharing. This Open Education Week workshop introduces digital literacy concepts through the lens of open licenses and publishing pathways. Participants will explore how Creative Commons licenses work, how to decide what level of openness is appropriate for different kinds of work and where faculty can publish or share materials – from journals and institutional repositories to open platforms and community-aligned publishing models.
