Digital Sociology And Online Music Communities: Models And Lessons From The Internet, Kari K. Veblen, Janice L. Waldron
Digital Sociology And Online Music Communities: Models And Lessons From The Internet, Kari K. Veblen, Janice L. Waldron
Visions of Research in Music Education
With the rise of the internet, work from the of fields of digital sociology, communications/social media studies, and online research methods have become increasingly relevant for music education scholars both investigating and facilitating music teaching and learning in online contexts. While opportunities for online music making, teaching, and learning activities have grown exponentially, the number of online places dedicated to music making, learning, and sharing has exploded with the arrival of COVID as much of the world moves online. What was once an option – going online to teach and learn music – has now become a necessity for most …
Music Education And The Shrinking Public Space: Implications Of Richard Sennett's Sociological Ideas For Music Education, Paul Louth
Visions of Research in Music Education
Richard Sennett’s theory that industrial capitalism triggered the gradual elimination of shared cultural symbolism and thus contributed to the impoverishment of civic involvement deserves to be revisited in light of its implications for music education in an age of global information capitalism. In 1974 Sennett produced an extensive examination of the relationship between public culture and public space, arguing that our response to large-scale social and economic forces over which we have limited control is to retreat from public cultural expressions and consequently from public life. Extending Sennett’s sociological argument, I contend that the subjectivizing of musical meaning may lead …

Perspectives On Social Realism Within North American Higher Music Education, Kyle Zavitz
Visions of Research in Music Education
This article critically examines the suitability of Social Realist perspectives within North American higher music education, with a particular focus on its relationship with jazz musical knowledges. Social Realist scholarship continues to emerge within the field of education sociology, driven by claims to contribute to student access and opportunity. In spite of this, scholars have continued to critique Social Realist perspectives for various reasons including maintaining an ideological status quo and devaluing the experiences of students, going as far as argue that Social Realist frameworks may in fact limit the access and opportunity espoused by its proponents. Drawing upon past …

Penggandaan Sementara (Ephemeral Recording) Dalam Konser Daring Yang Disiarkan Secara Live Stream Terkait Penggunaan Hak Cipta Lagu, Diana Silfiani
"Dharmasisya” Jurnal Program Magister Hukum FHUI
The COVID-19 pandemic has shifted the form of conducting music concerts from face-to-face concerts to online concerts through the live stream mechanism. Some practitioners opine that the implementation of live stream online concerts is considered to contain elements of temporary reproduction (ephemeral recording) and may be used for the purposes as regulated in Article 49 of Law No. 28 Year 2014 on Copyright. This paper examines whether the use of copyrighted songs in live streams music concerts can be categorized as ephemeral recording. This research will be carried out using socio-legal studies methods as an interdisciplinary studies with the help …

A New Approach To Improve Transmitting And Receiving Timing In Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (Ofdm) Systems, Ghassan A. Abed
A New Approach To Improve Transmitting And Receiving Timing In Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (Ofdm) Systems, Ghassan A. Abed
Iraqi Journal for Computer Science and Mathematics
Nowadays, most wireless communications employ OFDM technology to reduce signal interference. Its sensitivity to timing faults, however, can cause a severe performance reduction. This study suggests a newapproach to enhance communicationsystems' transmitting and receiving time. Although OFDM is a widely used modulation strategy in communication systems, itis vulnerable to timing faults, which can seriously affect performance.A frequency interference processing method is created that uses OFDM technology and goes through numerous steps, such as correcting CFO, adding a periodic prefix to prevent frequency distortion, calculating the time delay between transmission and reception, and spotting timing mistakes. It is clear that the …
Method Of Selecting An Optimal Propagated Base Signal Using Artificial Neural Networks, Saud Mobark Aldossari
Method Of Selecting An Optimal Propagated Base Signal Using Artificial Neural Networks, Saud Mobark Aldossari
USF Patents
A system and method of propagating signal links by using artificial neural networks using a relay link selection protocol to predict an optimal link or path, providing a reliable mechanism to meet 5G-new radio requirements. The artificial neural networks used in the method classify training and testing datasets into sufficient signal strengths and insufficient signal strengths, such that paths are evaluated for predicted propagation links, and such that the strongest propagation link can be selected. Specifically, a multilayer perceptron method is used to identify and characterize new link candidates using the path loss parameter or the received signal strength, such …
Wild Cards In Natural Resource Planning: High Impact Surprises That Shape The Future, Dr. David Bengston
Wild Cards In Natural Resource Planning: High Impact Surprises That Shape The Future, Dr. David Bengston
Natural Resources Journal
Wild cards are improbable, high impact events. Such events, like the COVID-19 pandemic, have the ability to shape policy by upending entire systems and paradigms. Unfortunately, long-term planning and policymaking rarely account for wild card events. Instead, planning and policymaking typically assume that existing trends will continue without major disruption. Moreover, adequately planning for potential wild card events is challenging because they are inherently difficult to predict. However, planning for wild card events in natural resources and environmental policymaking is vital as global developments, such as climate change, create more extreme conditions and challenges. This review, (1) defines and characterizes …

Damage Detection In Reinforced Concrete Member Using Local Time-Frequency Transform Applied To Vibration Measurements, Ning Liu, Thomas Schumacher, Yan Li, Lina Xu, Bo Wang
Civil and Environmental Engineering Faculty Publications and Presentations
Signal processing and analysis of structural vibration measurements are key components of structural damage detection (SDD) in structural health monitoring (SHM). The goal of signal processing is to extract subtle changes in the measured signals, which can be used to infer changes in structural parameters and damage. Time-frequency analysis is one of the most popular characterization methods for studying non-stationary vibration signals. In this article, the local time-frequency transform (LTFT) is applied and evaluated to calculate the time-domain signals because of its excellent time-frequency energy distribution properties. The LTFT matches the input data by the Fourier basis in an inverse …

The RADG (Reaction Automata Direct Graph) cryptosystem is the automata direct graph and reaction states combination. The classical RADG does not require key exchange (keyless), or agreement between users just the design of RADG, which is static. The RADG algorithm with keys has two agreements between users, one is on the keys, and other is a design of RADG. The RADG design depends on states and transitions between them, since transitions between states are static transitions, or dynamic transitions have agreement between users to determine the type of state (Jump state, Reaction state) of RADG algorithm with keys, and the …

Towards A Framework For Privacy-Preserving Pedestrian Analysis, Anil Kunchala, Mélanie Bouroche, Bianca Schoen-Phelan
Conference papers
The design of pedestrian-friendly infrastructures plays a crucial role in creating sustainable transportation in urban environments. Analyzing pedestrian behaviour in response to existing infrastructure is pivotal to planning, maintaining, and creating more pedestrian-friendly facilities. Many approaches have been proposed to extract such behaviour by applying deep learning models to video data. Video data, however, includes an broad spectrum of privacy-sensitive information about individuals, such as their location at a given time or who they are with. Most of the existing models use privacy-invasive methodologies to track, detect, and analyse individual or group pedestrian behaviour patterns. As a step towards privacy-preserving …

Rotation-Inversion Isomerization Of Tertiary Carbamates: Potential Energy Surface Analysis Of Multi-Paths Isomerization Using Boltzmann Statistics, Brian Jameson, Rainer Glaser
Chemistry Faculty Research & Creative Works
Potential energy surface (PES) analyses at the SMD[MP2/6–311++G(d,p)] level and higher-level energies up to MP4(fc,SDTQ) are reported for the fluorinated tertiary carbamate N-ethyl-N-(2,2,2-trifluoroethyl) methyl carbamate (VII) and its parent system N,N-dimethyl methyl carbamate (VI). Emphasis is placed on the analysis of the rotational barrier about the CN carbamate bond and its interplay with the hybridization of the N-lone pair (NLP). All rotational transition state (TS) structures were found by computation of 1D relaxed rotational profiles but only 2D PES scans revealed the rotation-inversion paths in a compelling fashion. We found four unique chiral minima of VII, one pair each of …

Admissions tests have increasingly come under attack by those seeking to broaden access and reduce disparities in higher education. Meanwhile, in other sectors there is a movement towards “work-sample” or “proximal” testing. Especially for underrepresented students, the goal is to measure not just the accumulated knowledge and skills that they would bring to a new academic program, but also their ability to grow and learn through the program. The JD-Next is a fully online, noncredit, 7- to 10-week course to train potential JD students in case reading and analysis skills, prior to their first year of law school. This study …

The rapid improvements in identifying the genetic factors contributing to facial morphology have enabled the early identification of craniofacial syndromes. Similarly, this technology can be vital in forensic cases involving human identification from biological traces or human remains, especially when reference samples are not available in the deoxyribose nucleic acid (DNA) database. This review summarizes the currently used methods for predicting human phenotypes such as age, ancestry, pigmentation, and facial features based on genetic variations. To identify the facial features affected by DNA, various two-dimensional (2D)- and three-dimensional (3D)-scanning techniques and analysis tools are reviewed. A comparison between the scanning …

Data Augmentation For Neutron Spectrum Unfolding With Neural Networks, James Mcgreivy, Juan J. Manfredi, Daniel Siefman
Faculty Publications
Neural networks require a large quantity of training spectra and detector responses in order to learn to solve the inverse problem of neutron spectrum unfolding. In addition, due to the under-determined nature of unfolding, non-physical spectra which would not be encountered in usage should not be included in the training set. While physically realistic training spectra are commonly determined experimentally or generated through Monte Carlo simulation, this can become prohibitively expensive when considering the quantity of spectra needed to effectively train an unfolding network. In this paper, we present three algorithms for the generation of large quantities of realistic and …

Hs-Integral And Eisenstein Integral Mixed Circulant Graphs, Monu Kadyan, Bikash Bhattacharjya
Theory & Applications of Graphs
A mixed graph is called second kind hermitian integral (HS-integral) if the eigenvalues of its Hermitian-adjacency matrix of the second kind are integers. A mixed graph is called Eisenstein integral if the eigenvalues of its (0, 1)-adjacency matrix are Eisenstein integers. We characterize the set S for which a mixed circulant graph Circ(Zn, S) is HS-integral. We also show that a mixed circulant graph is Eisenstein integral if and only if it is HS-integral. Further, we express the eigenvalues and the HS-eigenvalues of unitary oriented circulant graphs in terms of generalized Möbius function.

Crow Search Algorithm With Time Varying Flight Length Strategies For Feature Selection, Mohammed Abdullahi, Abdulhameed Adamu, Ibrahim Hayatu Hassan
Future Computing and Informatics Journal
Feature Selection (FS) is an efficient technique use to get rid of irrelevant, redundant and noisy attributes in high dimensional datasets while increasing the efficacy of machine learning classification. The CSA is a modest and efficient metaheuristic algorithm which has been used to overcome several FS issues. The flight length (fl) parameter in CSA governs crows' search ability. In CSA, fl is set to a fixed value. As a result, the CSA is plagued by the problem of being hoodwinked in local minimum. This article suggests a remedy to this issue by bringing five new concepts of time dependent fl …

Enabling accurate and automated identification of wireless devices is critical for allowing network access monitoring and ensuring data authentication for large-scale IoT networks. RF fingerprinting has emerged as a solution for device identification by leveraging the transmitters' inevitable hardware impairments that occur during manufacturing. Although deep learning is proven efficient in classifying devices based on hardware impairments, the performance of deep learning models suffers greatly from variations of the wireless channel conditions, across time and space. To the best of our knowledge, we are the first to propose leveraging MIMO capabilities to mitigate the channel effect and provide a channel-resilient …
