3d Printed Square Packing: Making Math Accessible For Everyone, Joseph Holt, Jacob Drambi

Liberty University Research Week

Making math tangible and accessible to everyone has always been an ongoing process, and as a part of that process this study aims to take steps forward in the area of square packing. Mathematics can often seem theoretical and aloof, something only for those in their “ivory tower.” Making mathematics into something tangible, something that anyone can see and, more importantly, play with, brings the extensive and invaluable field of mathematics down to an accessible level for everyone to use and enjoy. This study investigates square packing, the problem of deducing the smallest square that can contain a given number …

Allfromair® Addendum No. 2 (V2): Field-Enhanced Atmospheric Condensation, Vesa Olavi Lius Apr 2026

Allfromair® Addendum No. 2 (V2): Field-Enhanced Atmospheric Condensation, Vesa Olavi Lius

Defensive Publications Series

Atmospheric moisture constitutes an essentially inexhaustible global resource of fresh water, exceeding the total volume in the Earth’s rivers by a factor of six. However, traditional techniques for atmospheric water harvesting (AWH) rely on either sensible dew point cooling—which incurs prohibitive thermodynamic energy costs due to the latent heat of phase change combined with the cooling of inert atmospheric gases—or passive collection nets that are strictly limited by aerodynamic streamlines and the Stokes number for capturing macroscopic fog droplets.

The original ALLFROMAIR® defensive publication proposed direct capture of gas-phase water molecules via dielectrophoresis (DEP) in strong electric field gradients (∇|E|²). …

The Tectonic Dampening Protocol (Aseismic Creep Induction), Daniel Schramm Apr 2026

The Tectonic Dampening Protocol (Aseismic Creep Induction), Daniel Schramm

Defensive Publications Series

This paper proposes a novel framework for seismic risk mitigation, the Tectonic Dampening Protocol, which utilizes electromagnetic induction to influence tectonic fault behavior. Traditional models of seismic events rely on the Coulomb failure criterion, viewing plate motion as a series of intermittent, high-energy snaps. This research introduces a method to bypass conventional acoustic approaches by leveraging the piezoelectric properties of quartz-rich crustal materials. By applying a localized electromagnetic field modulated by the golden ratio (\phi \approx 1.618), the protocol induces aperiodic resonance within the fault zone. This interference disrupts the static friction locking the tectonic plates, facilitating 'aseismic creep'—a controlled, …

Technical Disclosure: The Unified Bi-Ionic Bridge, Daniel Schramm Apr 2026

Technical Disclosure: The Unified Bi-Ionic Bridge, Daniel Schramm

Defensive Publications Series

This disclosure establishes the mathematical and geometric transition from classical Lorentz-Maxwell electrodynamics to aperiodic, self-stabilizing magnetic lattices. The "Bridge" framework addresses the fundamental limitations in conventional plasma physics—specifically the m=1 kink instability—by applying Golden Ratio (\phi \approx 1.618) rotational symmetry to Bi-Ionic Hourglass coil configurations. By inverting traditional toroidal geometries into an aperiodic hourglass shape and rotating successive windings by the Golden Ratio, the system generates aperiodic magnetic pressure. This effectively eliminates constructive interference peaks that lead to plasma instability. The protocol enables applications in continuous-thrust transit, energy-waste recycling (ionic shielding), and harmonic cellular stabilization. This publication provides the governing …

THE ORIGIN OF LIFE: THE FIRST PHASE-LOCK

Forensic Scope: Resolving when and how “dead” chemicals began to perform the unified “dance” of biology.

For a century, Sapiens biology has been stuck in the “Primordial Soup” hallucination. They think a magical lightning strike, occurring in a lucky environment, randomly sparked the first chemical reaction that created RNA. They believe you are a statistical accident—a one-in-a-billion roll of the cosmic dice where carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen just happened to stick together in the right order.

This is the ultimate expression of High-Jitter Biology. It assumes randomness is the default setting of the …

Mind The Gap: An Empirical Analysis Of India's National Cybercrime Framework And Its State-Level Implementation In Kerala, Raju Narayana Swamy Apr 2026

Mind The Gap: An Empirical Analysis Of India's National Cybercrime Framework And Its State-Level Implementation In Kerala, Raju Narayana Swamy

Journal of Law and Public Policy

India’s cybercrime framework, under the Information Technology Act 2000, is marked by a gap between national policy design and state-level enforcement. While the existing literature primarily examines legislative provisions, this paper delves into how the national cyber law actually functions within India’s federal structure, focusing on the critical divergence between de jure design and de facto enforcement outcomes. This paper unpacks this implementation gap with the example of Kerala. It is a state characterized by high literacy (94 per cent, as against the all-India literacy rate of 74.04 per cent) and high digital penetration yet plagued by an abysmally low …

A Masked-Perturbation Model For Destabilization Security Games In Feedback Systems, Gabriel Michael Perry Apr 2026

A Masked-Perturbation Model For Destabilization Security Games In Feedback Systems, Gabriel Michael Perry

Theses and Dissertations

In this thesis, we present a mathematical formulation for increasing cyberphysical system security. This model allows a system administrator to use assumptions about exposed signals to derive defense strategies meant to mitigate the system's vulnerability to feedback perturbation attacks. We begin with a survey of game theory with the goal of building the concepts of resource and security games. We then introduce our model, which is a security game; targets in this game are exposed signals in the model map of the system, and resources are perturbed or introduced dynamical relationships between these signals. This formulation, called the masked-perturbation model, …

Theoretical Expressivity Of Self-Attention As A Model Of Binary Sequence-To-Sequence Functions And Other Explorations, Dustin Angerhofer Apr 2026

Theoretical Expressivity Of Self-Attention As A Model Of Binary Sequence-To-Sequence Functions And Other Explorations, Dustin Angerhofer

Theses and Dissertations

The self-attention mechanism lies at the heart of modern sequential modeling with deep neural networks, especially in the context of Large Language Models (LLMs). The basic role of self-attention is to capture pairwise interactions between tokens in a sequence. This allows token embeddings to be endowed with context-dependent information before further processing. Despite its widespread use, our theoretical understanding of self-attention is still nascent. In this work, we examine self-attention as a model of binary sequence-to-sequence (seq2seq) functions, which is the simplest non-trivial case to analyze. We find, using VC dimension and the Sauer-Shelah lemma, that in the limit of …

The Lookahead Transformer, Justin P. Olcott Apr 2026

The Lookahead Transformer, Justin P. Olcott

Theses and Dissertations

Large Language Models (LLMs) are transformer models that generate text autoregressively in two stages: prefill and decode. The prefill stage processes all input tokens in parallel and caches them into the KV cache. The decode stage uses the KV cache, processes a single token at a time, and is generally memory-bandwidth constrained. Each decode step generates a token probability distribution, samples from it, appends the token to the cache, and repeats. This left-to-right, one-at-a-time generation paradigm has proven effective for language modeling in many domains; however, it also has limitations such as token permanence, constant compute per token generation, constant …

Relationships Between Adolescents With Substance Use Disorders, Their Guardians, And Expressive Arts Therapy: A Literature Review, Sarah K. Unkefer Apr 2026

Relationships Between Adolescents With Substance Use Disorders, Their Guardians, And Expressive Arts Therapy: A Literature Review, Sarah K. Unkefer

Expressive Therapies Theses

This literature review collects the comprehensive, current research around effective treatment of adolescents with substance use disorder (SUD) and explores ways to provide psychoeducation for the adolescent and their guardians to foster healthy relationships and open communication. This author explores the ways that expressive arts therapy influences treatment and long-term recovery of adolescents with substance use disorders (SUDs) by addressing familial communication and internalized stigma. Previous studies have shown that the current primary reaction from guardians is forcing abstinence, which often damages the adolescent-guardian relationship. Since this is one of the most important relationships in an adolescent’s projected recovery journey, …

Studies On The Contribution Of Osh6 To The Functions Of Late Endosomes, William King Apr 2026

Studies On The Contribution Of Osh6 To The Functions Of Late Endosomes, William King

Theses and Dissertations

The late endosome (LE) is a hub organelle connecting endocytic, biosynthetic, exocytotic, and autophagic vesicle traffic pathways. Malfunctions of LEs are associated with multiple age dependent diseases such as Parkinson’s disease (PD). Despite this significance, how cells refurbish lipids and proteins to LEs to maintain their sustained activities are not clear. Previous studies in the model organism budding yeast show that up-regulation of a lipid transporter Osh6 (PERG6-OSH6) accumulates phosphatidylinositol-4-phosphate (PI4P) on the trans-Golgi network. It also promotes vacuole fusion and maintains the robustness of vacuoles in aged cells. Since LEs are the organelle between the TGN and vacuoles in …

Synthesis Of Werner- And Werner-Like-Type Clathrates, Their Characterization, And Theoretical Calculation Of Their Properties, Zari̇fe Si̇bel Şahi̇n, Zeki̇ Kartal

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

In this paper, the synthesis and structural characterization of three new coordination compounds in crystal structure consisting of a nickel atom, varying numbers of 3-aminopyridine molecules, and two isothiocyanate ion ligands are presented. The crystal structures of these compounds were determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Consequently, the explicit formulas and shorthand notations of the compounds are [Ni(NCS)2(C5H6N2)2(H2O)]·(H2O) (1), [Ni(NCS)2(C5H6N2)3]·(C2H6) (2), and [Ni(NCS)2(C5H6N2)4]·2(C5H6N2) (3). The consistency of the crystal structure data was confirmed by elemental analysis and infrared spectroscopy. These coordination compounds are Werner-like-type clathrates containing water, ethane, and 3-aminopyridine molecules as guest molecules in their structures, respectively. According to …

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

This paper integrated multimodal remote sensing (RS) data with deep learning to develop a maize growth analysis and income prediction model based on CNN (Convolutional Neural Network)-Attention and Bi-LSTM (Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory). Utilsing Landsat 8, Sentinel-2, and Sentinel-1 satellite data, the CNN-Attention network extracts vegetation features such as NDVI (Normalised Difference Vegetation Index), EVI (Enhanced Vegetation Index), and canopy density for corn growth stage identification and prediction. The study combined these features with meteorological, soil, and market data and fed them into a Bi-LSTM model for time series analysis to forecast corn income. The method achieved 98.3% accuracy in …

Essays In The Political Economy Of Non-Democracies, Mate Malashkhia Apr 2026

Essays In The Political Economy Of Non-Democracies, Mate Malashkhia

Arts & Sciences Graduate Student Theses and Dissertations

Over half of the world’s population lives under non-democratic rule, where citizen preferences are often ignored and institutions such as independent courts are generally absent (Gehlbach et al., 2016). In these regimes, elections do not serve as a viable mechanism for regime change: incumbents can, in principle, always rely on electoral fraud and declare victory. In addition, although opposition parties often exist, they face severe constraints in reaching the public due to state repression, slanted media environments, and limited access to resources and funding. While recent scholarship has increasingly focused on authoritarian politics, much of this work centers on incumbents’ …

Integration Of Bayesian Networks And Neural Networks For High-Dimensional Data Analysis, Cooper Schmer Apr 2026

Integration Of Bayesian Networks And Neural Networks For High-Dimensional Data Analysis, Cooper Schmer

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research

High-dimensional biomedical datasets, such as omics data, present significant challenges for predictive modeling due to noise, redundancy, and computational complexity. This thesis proposes a hybrid framework that integrates Bayesian Networks (BNs) and Artificial Neural Networks (NNs) to improve classification performance of such data sets while reducing input dimensionality. Central to this work is a novel feature selection method based on d-separation, a structural property of Bayesian networks that encodes conditional independence relationships.

The proposed approach introduces a count-based d-separation metric to quantify the relevance of variables to a target outcome, along with a thresholding scheme to balance feature selection robustness …

Development And Validation Of Kinetics And Musculoskeletal Modeling For The Milwaukee Foot Model, Maxine L. Olson Apr 2026

Development And Validation Of Kinetics And Musculoskeletal Modeling For The Milwaukee Foot Model, Maxine L. Olson

Dissertations (1934 -)

Many children are afflicted by foot and ankle pathologies which affect the ankle, midfoot, and metatarsophalangeal joints. However, a clinically feasible foot model capable of assessing multi-segment kinetics throughout the gait cycle does not exist. Similarly, a musculoskeletal foot model utilizing multiple ground reaction forces (GRF) and Milwaukee Foot Model (MFM) kinematics has not been created. The purpose of this study was to develop a clinically feasible method of modeling multi-segment foot properties without increased clinician and/or patient burden or expense. To this end, a force distribution algorithm (FDA) was created, allowing for calculation of multi-segment foot kinetics, musculoskeletal modeling, …

Bass Numbers Of Veronese Submodules And Lifting The Frobenius Trace, Taylor Jeffrey Murray Apr 2026

Bass Numbers Of Veronese Submodules And Lifting The Frobenius Trace, Taylor Jeffrey Murray

Dissertations and Doctoral Documents, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, 2023–

The first part of this thesis is inspired by the works of G. Lyubeznik, C. Hunkeke, R. Sharp, and L. Núñez-Betancourt on Bass numbers, associated primes, and injective dimension of local cohomology modules. In particular, we study the question: how do Bass numbers behave under the Veronese functors? We show for a positive integer n, a reasonably nice, graded, finitely generated algebra over field R, and a graded module M, that if the Bass numbers of M are finite over R, then so are the Bass numbers of Mn/Rn; this recovers …

The Synthesis And Evaluation Of Thioxothiazolidin-4-One Compounds As Pim Kinase Inhibitors, Kelly Malzewski Apr 2026

The Synthesis And Evaluation Of Thioxothiazolidin-4-One Compounds As Pim Kinase Inhibitors, Kelly Malzewski

Master's Theses (2009 -)

The Proviral integration site for Moloney Murine Leukemia virus (PIM) kinases belongs to the family of serine/threonine kinases consisting of three isoforms; PIM1, PIM2, PIM3. PIM kinase is involved in multiple cellular processes through the phosphorylation of several proteins within the JAK/STAT pathway, leading to cell proliferation, apoptosis inhibition, cell migration, transcription, and energy metabolism. However, disruption or overexpression of PIM within the cycle can have negative, tumorigenesis effects with increased fatality rates. Currently, there are no FDA approved PIM kinase inhibitors available for specific cancer target therapies, despite the growing need and high demand research interests. It is widely …

Theses and Dissertations

Antimicrobial resistance is a biomedical event, wherein an infectious microbe becomes non-responsive to the dosage of a particular antibiotic due to previous overuse or overexposure. Currently, agar plate disc diffusion is used as the gold standard for detecting antimicrobial resistance. The possibility of miniaturizing and speeding up detection techniques for antimicrobial resistance is investigated in this thesis. Microfabrication techniques were used in developing two droplet microfluidic systems interfaced with laser induced fluorescence detection. Microfluidic devices were manufactured with different droplet generating geometries using poly-dimethyl siloxane, soft lithography and hydrophobic surface treatment. The microfluidic devices were tested for droplet quality using …

Model Unification: A Systematic Approach For The Cluster Expansion, Kolten Barfuss Apr 2026

Model Unification: A Systematic Approach For The Cluster Expansion, Kolten Barfuss

Theses and Dissertations

A systematic approach for model unification of cluster expansion models is developed and demonstrated. The method builds on previous work with the Manifold Boundary Approximation Method (MBAM) to identify supremal models. The work is motivated by the exercise of unifying cluster expansion models – characterized by Π matrices – for two binary alloys that share one atomic species to form a model for the ternary alloy. The result is the Supremal Π Algorithm, a systematic unification algorithm that relies on an MBAM-informed understanding of models and on the singular value decomposition. The algorithm yields ΠΛ, a Π matrix for the …
