The aim of the work is to study the wave processes in three-winding power transformers caused by impulse overvoltage, to create an improved mathematical model for reproducing the process of distribution and transmission of the impulse in the windings of a three-winding power transformer. A mathematical model has been developed for the study of internal overvoltage in the windings of three-winding power transformers, based on the proposed substitute circuit of an infinitesimal element, taking into account the longitudinal and transverse inductive connections between the turns of the winding, the electromagnetic connections between the windings and the flux splitting from the …

The Effect Of Blasting Using Low-Density Emulsion Explosives, Vinko Škrlec, Mario Dobrilović, Barbara Štimac Tumara, Vječislav Bohanek Jan 2024

The Effect Of Blasting Using Low-Density Emulsion Explosives, Vinko Škrlec, Mario Dobrilović, Barbara Štimac Tumara, Vječislav Bohanek

Journal of Sustainable Mining

Low-density emulsion explosives are essentially blends of an emulsion matrix and a certain amount of gaseous phase inclusions acting as hot spots. With the addition of expanded polystyrene for gaseous sensibilization, the resulting explosive blend was developed to reduce peak values and pressure impulse of gaseous detonation products on surrounding rock. This resulted in a decrease in rock stress and a decrease in cracking zone width outside of the minefield boundary. The use of low-density emulsion explosives correlates with the decrease in the seismic effect of blasting, more precisely, the decrease of induced rock oscillation velocities. The low-density emulsion explosive …

Numerical Simulation On Effect Of Coal Pillar Width On Stability Of Retained Roadway: A Case Study Of Khe Cham Coal Mine, Vietnam, Quang Phuc Le, Tien Dung Le Jan 2024

Numerical Simulation On Effect Of Coal Pillar Width On Stability Of Retained Roadway: A Case Study Of Khe Cham Coal Mine, Vietnam, Quang Phuc Le, Tien Dung Le

Journal of Sustainable Mining

When extracting coal seams in Vietnam underground mines, coal pillars are often left unmined for the protection of retained roadways in the longwall mining method. During longwall mining operations, coal pillars are often placed where high-stress concentrations occur in the abutment pressure zone of adjacent panels, especially when extracting seams under hard-to-cave main roof conditions. The instability of coal pillars under the loading of the main roof may cause the roadway to collapse, threatening the safe operation of a coal mine. This paper presents a detailed numerical investigation of the effect of coal pillar width on the stability of retained …

Assessing Compliance To Water Resources And Reconstruction Framework During Post-Conflict Reconstruction Borno State, Muritala Olaniyi Oke Dr

Journal of African Conflicts and Peace Studies

Northeast and northwest of Nigeria have, as a result of activities of Boko Haram, bandit and kidnappers, had their public and private properties destroyed. Governments and other stakeholders, upon some successes of the military, have started post-conflict reconstruction to rebuild the war-torn urban and rural communities with the provision of water taking the center stage. This paper looks at the utilisation of Water Resources and a Reconstruction framework for integrating water projects into reconstruction processes. This paper rests on the argument that water projects during reconstruction should not be handled as “normal” water projects and that a more culturally and …

Mcdonald Generalized Power Weibull Distribution: Properties, And Applications, Shei B. Sayibu, A. Luguterah, A. Luguterah, S. Nasiru

Journal of Statistics Applications & Probability

This research introduces a novel six-parameter model called the McDonald Generalized Power Weibull distribution. The model contains several sub-models that prove highly valuable in modeling real-life scenarios, including the McDonald Weibull, McDonald exponential, McDonald Nadarajah-Haghighi, beta generalized power Weibull distribution, and Kumaraswamy generalized power distributions, among others. The proposed model demonstrates suitability in modeling survival/reliability data, accommodating various hazard failure rates such as increasing, decreasing, unimodal (upside-down bathtub), modified bathtub, and reversed J-shape. Various properties of the new model are investigated, including moments, quantiles, incomplete moments, moment-generating functions, and order statistics. The maximum likelihood estimation method is employed to estimate …

Journal of Statistics Applications & Probability

In this article, we developed a new statistical model named as the generalized complementary exponentiated Bell-Touchard model. The exponential model is taken as a special baseline model with a configurable failure rate function. The proposed model is based on several features of zero-truncated Bell numbers and Touchard polynomials that can address the complementary risk matters. The linear representation of the density of the proposed model is provided that can be used to obtain numerous important properties of the special model. The well-known actuarial metrics namely value at risk and expected shortfall are formulated, computed and graphically illustrated for the sub …

Time Scale Theory On Stability Of Explicit And Implicit Discrete Epidemic Models: Applications To Swine Flu Outbreak, Gülşah Yeni, Elvan Akın, Naveen K. Vaidya

Mathematics and Statistics Faculty Research & Creative Works

Time scales theory has been in use since the 1980s with many applications. Only very recently, it has been used to describe within-host and between-hosts dynamics of infectious diseases. In this study, we present explicit and implicit discrete epidemic models motivated by the time scales modeling approach. We use these models to formulate the basic reproduction number, which determines whether an outbreak occurs, or the disease dies out. We discuss the stability of the disease-free and endemic equilibrium points using the linearization method and Lyapunov function. Furthermore, we apply our models to swine flu outbreak data to demonstrate that the …

Engagement in an iterative process of data collection and analysis occurred to arrive at the constructed theory: integrating clinical intuition for a whole person approach to empowerment. The theory is comprised of the core categories (a) building trust and confidence to access and use …

On A Multivalued Prescribed Mean Curvature Problem And Inclusions Defined On Dual Spaces, Vy Khoi Le Jan 2024

On A Multivalued Prescribed Mean Curvature Problem And Inclusions Defined On Dual Spaces, Vy Khoi Le

Mathematics and Statistics Faculty Research & Creative Works

This article addresses two main objectives. First, it establishes a functional analytic framework and presents existence results for a quasilinear inclusion describing a prescribed mean curvature problem with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions, involving a multivalued lower order term. The formulation of the problem is done in the space of functions with bounded variation. The second objective is to introduce a general existence theory for inclusions defined on nonreflexive Banach spaces, which is specifically applicable to the aforementioned prescribed mean curvature problem. This problem can be formulated as a multivalued variational inequality in the space of functions with bounded variation, which, …

The Covid-19 Pandemic has created an opportunity in local churches of the Pacific Northwest to develop new ways of connecting to God and improving health through movement in nature. The Pandemic damaged physical, mental, and social wellness for individuals and communities, as well as highlighted areas of dysfunction existent before the Pandemic. Research shows that when human beings engage with nature, they experience improved physical, psychological, cognitive, and spiritual health. Through activities such as running, walking, or simply sitting still in a natural environment, participants have the opportunity to deepen their relationship with God and strengthen their identity and understanding …

Microstructure-Based Modeling Of Primary Cilia Mechanics, Nima Mostafazadeh, Andrew Resnick, Y.-N. Young, Zhangli Peng Jan 2024

Microstructure-Based Modeling Of Primary Cilia Mechanics, Nima Mostafazadeh, Andrew Resnick, Y.-N. Young, Zhangli Peng

Physics Faculty Publications

A primary cilium, made of nine microtubule doublets enclosed in a cilium membrane, is a mechanosensing organelle that bends under an external mechanical load and sends an intracellular signal through transmembrane proteins activated by cilium bending. The nine microtubule doublets are the main load-bearing structural component, while the transmembrane proteins on the cilium membrane are the main sensing component. No distinction was made between these two components in all existing models, where the stress calculated from the structural component (nine microtubule doublets) was used to explain the sensing location, which may be totally misleading. For the first time, we developed …

Developing A Pbpk Model For Intranasal Naloxone And Opioid Displacement From Brain Receptors, Jasmin Akther Hossain

Selected Full-Text Dissertations 2020-

The therapeutic and nontherapeutic use of potent opioid agonists has increased dramatically over the past 20 years, with overdose trends following suit. Currently, naloxone is the primary drug used for treating emergency rescue from an opioid overdose. Naloxone works by displacing opioid agonists that are bound to receptors such as the μ-opioid receptor (MOR) in the brain, which are thought to be the sites of action responsible for symptoms due to overdosing, such as respiratory depression.

Intranasal (IN) administration of naloxone is an excellent alternative to the invasiveness of injections and poorly bioavailable oral formulation. However, the exact mechanism of …

Task Scheduling And Trajectory Optimization Based On Fairness And Communication Security For Multi-Uav-Mec System, Yejun He, Kun Xiang, Xiaowen Cao, Mohsen Guizani

Machine Learning Faculty Publications

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) show significant potential in enhancing communication services within the mobile edge computing (MEC) system by taking their advantages on the flexible mobility and reliable line-of-sight links. However, in the scenarios with multiple UAV-MECs (UMs) operating concurrently, potential conflicts in their trajectories need to be mitigated. Thus, the 3D trajectory needs to be properly designed in a highly reliable manner. Besides, such an infrastructure-free communication paradigm also exposes a potential risk of misuse by malicious parties, which allows them to eavesdrop on private communications, posing a threat to the security and privacy. Therefore, we consider a multi-UAV-assisted …

My paper will be about how solar energy has developed over time and what it could look like down the road. It is an alternative to fossil fuels and nuclear energy. Right now, there is a shift that is pushing people away from coal and gas and going to renewable sources such as solar, wind, and other renewables instead. It started in the U.S. when the photovoltaic effect was discovered. Which further lead to higher technology which is used today. Since then, there are now tax credits towards solar which can help a buyer be able to purchase solar and …

Patient Safety And Its Role In Healthcare, Jennifer Brown Jan 2024

Patient Safety And Its Role In Healthcare, Jennifer Brown

Integrated Studies

Abstract

In the United States, medical errors are a major cause of death and a critical public health issue. Finding a reliable cause of mistakes and then offering a reliable, workable solution that reduces the likelihood of an ongoing issue are difficult tasks. Patient safety can be raised by acknowledging unfortunate events when they happen, acquiring knowledge about them, and striving to steer clear of them as well. Effectiveness in post-medical errors follow-up procedures is a pertinent and significant study topic for a number of reasons. In a hospital or maybe even a doctor's office, you may speak and engage …

Courts routinely defer to police officer judgments in reasonable suspicion and probable cause determinations. Increasingly, though, police officers outsource these threshold judgments to new forms of technology that purport to predict and detect crime and identify those responsible. These policing technologies automate core police determinations about whether crime is occurring and who is responsible. Criminal procedure doctrine has failed to insist on some level of scrutiny of—or skepticism about—the reliability of this technology. Through an original study analyzing numerous state and federal court opinions, this Article exposes the implications of law enforcement’s reliance on these practices given the weighty interests …
