Schools’ Records Management Also Matters: An Information Governance Maturity Model Assessment Of Records Management Practices At Mufakose 4 Secondary School In Harare, Zimbabwe, Patrick Mandizha, Samson Mutsagondo

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

There has been a tendency to focus on universities and colleges each time researchers look at records management within the educational sector. Primary and secondary schools have many times been left behind, yet schools’ records management also matters. Using the ARMA International’s Information Governance Maturity Model, this study assesses how Mufakose 4 Secondary School in Zimbabwe fared in its records management programme with special focus on the eight principles of the ARMA International’s Information Governance Maturity Model, that is, accountability, transparency, integrity, protection, compliance, availability, retention and disposition. Each of these principles were further assessed on a scale of 1 …

Challenging Others When Posting Misinformation: A Uk Vs. Arab Cross-Cultural Comparison On The Perception Of Negative Consequences And Injunctive Norms, Muaadh Noman, Selin Gurgun, Keith Phalp, Preslav Nakov, Raian Ali

Natural Language Processing Faculty Publications

This study investigates the factors influencing the willingness to challenge misinformation on social media across two cultural contexts, the United Kingdom (UK) and Arab countries. A total of 462 participants completed an online survey (250 UK, 212 Arabs). The analysis revealed that three types of negative consequences (relationship cost, negative impact on the person being challenged, futility) and also injunctive norms influence the willingness to challenge misinformation. Cross-cultural comparisons using t-tests showed significant differences between the UK and the Arab countries in all factors except the injunctive norms. Multiple regression analyses identified differences between the UK and Arab participants concerning …

Naturalism, Christian Molinism, And The Problem Of Evil, Caleb Blackman

Masters Theses

The purpose of this thesis is to create a Christian theodicy by forming an abductive argument showing that Christian Molinism can provide reasons for the existence of evil, and compared to naturalism, it provides the best explanation. This is accomplished by considering the naturalistic explanation of evil and building upon defenses and concepts such as the Free Will Defense and Molinism.

Prediction Of Hydrogel Degradation Time Based On Central Composite Design, Ying Wang, Deji Liu, Ruiquan Liao, Guangming Zhang, Manlai Zhang, Xiaohui Li

Faculty, Staff and Student Publications

In this study, a self-degrading hydrogel was formed by free-radical-initiated copolymerization, which can be used for oil and gas well strip pressure operations. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and thermogravimetry-mass spectrometry (TGA-MS) were used to study the reaction mechanism as well as the microstructure of the gels. Then, the effects of the four factors and their interactions on gel degradation time were determined by central composite design (CCD). Then, the effects of copolymer concentration, cross-linker, initiator, and reaction temperature and their interactions on gel degradation time were determined by central composite …

Comparison Of Empirical And Analytical Eigenfunctions As Bases For Reduced Order Methods In Heat Transfer, Jakob G. Bates, Matthew R. Jones, Christopher R. Dillon, John Tencer Jan 2024

Comparison Of Empirical And Analytical Eigenfunctions As Bases For Reduced Order Methods In Heat Transfer, Jakob G. Bates, Matthew R. Jones, Christopher R. Dillon, John Tencer

Student Works

Reduced order methods using spectral representations show promise in facilitating and accelerating heat transfer analyses. This paper proposes a taxonomy for reduced order methods, classifying a method as reduced order compression, modelling, or analysis. The performance of bases formed with analytical and empirical eigenfunctions are compared for representative reduced order tasks. The Akaike Information Criterion is applied in a novel way to compare the performance of these bases. The present study finds that both bases are parsimonious for reduced order compression tasks. Empirical eigenfunctions are more robust to for reduced order modelling with variations in modelling parameters such as thermal …

2023’S Billion-Dollar Disasters List Shattered The Us Record With 28 Big Weather And Climate Disasters Amid Earth’S Hottest Year On Record, Shuang-Ye Wu

Department of Earth, Environment and Sustainability Faculty Publications

The U.S. set an unwelcome record for weather and climate disasters in 2023, with 28 disasters that exceeded more than US$1 billion in damage each.

While it wasn’t the most expensive year overall – the costliest years included multiple hurricane strikes – it had the highest number of billion-dollar storms, floods, droughts and fires of any year since counting began in 1980, with six more than any other year, accounting for inflation.

The effects of climate change depend on specific local circumstances, posing a challenge for worldwide research to comprehensively encompass the diverse impacts on various local social-ecological systems. Here we use a place-specific but cross-culturally comparable protocol to document climate change indicators and impacts as locally experienced and analyze their distribution. We collected first-hand data in 48 sites inhabited by Indigenous Peoples and local communities and covering all climate zones and nature-dependent livelihoods. We documented 1,661 site-agreed reports of change corresponding to 369 indicators. Reports of change vary according to climate zone and livelihood activity. We provide compelling evidence that climate …

Formulating An Advanced Security Protocol For Internet Of Medical Things Based On Blockchain And Fog Computing Technologies, Rasha Halim Razzaq, Mishall Al Zubaidie

Iraqi Journal for Computer Science and Mathematics

The Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) is an evolving field in healthcare that connects medical devices to the Internet to enable efficient data sharing and health information collection. The IoMT aims to improve the quality of healthcare, facilitate diagnosis and treatment, and enhance patient safety. Nonetheless, the IoMTnetworksare usually exposed to multiple security attacks. Also, recent studies indicate that security protocols contain flaws in protecting patient data. Thus, data must be protected by innovative security protocols. In our work, we propose a Medical Security Protocol (MedSecP) to support security in IoMT. The proposed protocol adopts the Twofish encryption, Naive Bayes …

Improves Intrusion Detection Performance Inwireless Sensor Networks Through Machine Learning, Enhanced By An Accelerated Deep Learning Model With Advanced Feature Selection, Hadeel M. Saleh, Hend Marouane, Ahmed Fakhfakh

Iraqi Journal for Computer Science and Mathematics

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) have been securing a big position in the new aspect of security network attacks, where these suffer from various serious cyber threats that can play with their data integrity and reliability. Due to the key importance of WSN in a wide spectrum range of applications such as environmental monitoring and military field, building reliable, robust and efficient intrusion detection systems (IDS) is necessary. Although traditional machine learning approaches have been intended to detect these threats, they often lack high accuracy due to the complexity and dimensionality of WSN data.To address these limitations, the study introduces an …

Superoscillatory, band-limited functions oscillate faster than their fastest Fourier component. Superoscillations have been intensively explored recently as they give rise to many out-of-the-spectrum phenomena entailing both fundamental and applied significance. We experimentally demonstrate a form of superoscillations which is manifested by light apparently coming from a source located far away from the actual one. These superoscillations are sensed through sharp transverse shifts in the local wave vector at the minima of a pinhole diffraction pattern. We call this phenomenon “optical ventriloquism.”
