Origin And Accumulation Mechanisms Of Coalbed Methane In Low-Rank Coals In Gas-Rich Sags In The Erlian Basin, Lin Haitao, Li Ling, Tang Shuling, Tian Wenguang, Li Jie, Meng Qin
Coal Geology & Exploration
Inner Mongolia boasts abundant coalbed methane (CBM) resources in low-rank coals. Investigating the origin and accumulation mechanisms of CBM is crucial for the siting and assessment of these CBM resources. This study examined the CBM in low-rank coals in major gas-rich sags of the Erlian Basin through various experiments, including tests of the composition and carbon/hydrogen isotopes of CBM, as well as tests of the water quality, hydrogen/oxygen isotopes, and radioisotopes (3H and 14C) of coal seam water. By analyzing the geochemical characteristics of both CBM and coal seam water, this study revealed the origin, sources, and …

Coal Geology & Exploration
The Daning-Jixian block on the eastern margin of the Ordos Basin exhibits high-abundance deep coalbed methane (CBM) resources, well-developed natural fractures of coal reservoirs, well-developed cleats and fractures in coals themselves, coals with excellent structures and high mechanical strength, and strong sealing ability of coal roofs and floors. All these create favorable conditions for the formation of a large-scale fracture network through volume fracturing. The ultra-large-scale fracturing process has contributed to a major breakthrough in the single-well output of deep CBM. However, the tracer monitoring results show that various fracturing stages of horizontal wells exhibited different contribution rates to gas …

Baghdad Science Journal
Data-driven models perform poorly on part-of-speech tagging problems with the square Hmong language, a low-resource corpus. This paper designs a weight evaluation function to reduce the influence of unknown words. It proposes an improved harmony search algorithm utilizing the roulette and local evaluation strategies for handling the square Hmong part-of-speech tagging problem. The experiment shows that the average accuracy of the proposed model is 6%, 8% more than HMM and BiLSTM-CRF models, respectively. Meanwhile, the average F1 of the proposed model is also 6%, 3% more than HMM and BiLSTM-CRF models, respectively.

Sboa: A Novel Heuristic Optimization Algorithm, Qi Diao, Apri Junaidi, Wenghowe Chan, Azland Mohd Zain, Hao Long Yang
Baghdad Science Journal
A new human-based heuristic optimization method, named the Snooker-Based Optimization Algorithm (SBOA), is introduced in this study. The inspiration for this method is drawn from the traits of sales elites—those qualities every salesperson aspires to possess. Typically, salespersons strive to enhance their skills through autonomous learning or by seeking guidance from others. Furthermore, they engage in regular communication with customers to gain approval for their products or services. Building upon this concept, SBOA aims to find the optimal solution within a given search space, traversing all positions to obtain all possible values. To assesses the feasibility and effectiveness of SBOA …

Strategic asset seeking foreign direct investment has undergone tremendous growth over the past decade. This paper first attempts to evaluate the location choice of such investments in Europe. We find that Chinese companies target strategic assets in Europe. The paper then moves to understand the efficacy of these investments in terms of the creation of strategic assets in the Chinese parent company. Our results show the intangible assets of Chinese domestic parent firms significantly increase in the wake of their investments. For greenfield investments, there is a longer time-lag in creation of intangible strategic assets than for acquisitions. However, greenfield …

Most companies use social media data for business. Sentiment analysis automatically gathers analyses and summarizes this type of data. Managing unstructured social media data is difficult. Noisy data is a challenge to sentiment analysis. Since over 50% of the sentiment analysis process is data pre-processing, processing big social media data is challenging too. If pre-processing is carried out correctly, data accuracy may improve. Also, sentiment analysis workflow is highly dependent. Because no pre-processing technique works well in all situations or with all data sources, choosing the most important ones is crucial. Prioritization is an excellent technique for choosing the most …

An Improved Cuckoo Search Algorithm For Maximizing The Coverage Range Of Wireless Sensor Networks, Sen-Yu Yang, Yin-Hong Xiang, Di-Wen Kang, Kai-Qing Zhou
Baghdad Science Journal
The issue of increasing the range covered by a wireless sensor network with restricted sensors is addressed utilizing improved CS employing the PSO algorithm and opposition-based learning (ICS-PSO-OBL). At first, the iteration is carried out by updating the old solution dimension by dimension to achieve independent updating across the dimensions in the high-dimensional optimization problem. The PSO operator is then incorporated to lessen the preference random walk stage's imbalance between exploration and exploitation ability. Exceptional individuals are selected from the population using OBL to boost the chance of finding the optimal solution based on the fitness value. The ICS-PSO-OBL is …

When optimizing the performance of neural network-based chatbots, determining the optimizer is one of the most important aspects. Optimizers primarily control the adjustment of model parameters such as weight and bias to minimize a loss function during training. Adaptive optimizers such as ADAM have become a standard choice and are widely used for their invariant parameter updates' magnitudes concerning gradient scale variations, but often pose generalization problems. Alternatively, Stochastic Gradient Descent (SGD) with Momentum and the extension of ADAM, the ADAMW, offers several advantages. This study aims to compare and examine the effects of these optimizers on the chatbot CST …

Churning of employees from organizations is a serious problem. Turnover or churn of employees within an organization needs to be solved since it has negative impact on the organization. Manual detection of employee churn is quite difficult, so machine learning (ML) algorithms have been frequently used for employee churn detection as well as employee categorization according to turnover. Using Machine learning, only one study looks into the categorization of employees up to date. A novel multi-criterion decision-making approach (MCDM) coupled with DE-PARETO principle has been proposed to categorize employees. This is referred to as SNEC scheme. An AHP-TOPSIS DE-PARETO PRINCIPLE …

Mechanisms Of Electrical Substrate Reprogramming After Cardiac Radiotherapy, David Meng Zhang
Mechanisms Of Electrical Substrate Reprogramming After Cardiac Radiotherapy, David Meng Zhang
Arts & Sciences Graduate Student Theses and Dissertations
Ventricular tachycardia (VT) is frequently associated with morbidity in patients with heart disease and can lead to sudden cardiac death, which accounts for over 350,000 deaths per year and nearly half of all cardiovascular-related deaths in the United States. Despite its status as a major public health concern, arrhythmia management strategies are severely limited in safety and efficacy. Standards-of-care include defibrillators, anti-arrhythmic drugs, and/or ablations. Implantable cardioverter defibrillators improve survival in at-risk populations but severely reduce quality-of-life and increase risks of further-declining ventricular function. Pharmacologic interventions are limited in efficacy and have dozens of off-target effects which are major sources …

Understanding the motion of charged particles in the electromagnetic field in the inner magnetosphere is essential for space science and space weather. Charge accumulation can occur due to the dipole magnetic and convective electric fields in this region. However, until the recent Magnetospheric Multiscale (MMS) mission, there were few means to detect charge distribution in situ. We report unambiguous in situ observation of the spatial distribution of the excess charge density in the inner magnetosphere by the MMS mission. We find that a positive (negative) charge accumulates in the dusk (dawn) side inner magnetospheres, which is contrary to the long …

Soil Nitrification Inhibition With Plantain (Plantago Lanceolata), M. E. Peterson, P. M. Fraser, C. R. Anderson, N. I. Joyce, H. G. Judson
IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)
One strategy to reduce nitrogen losses from intensively grazed forage systems is to slow the first stage of soil nitrification, specifically inhibiting the microbial oxidation of ammonium to nitrite. Plantain (Plantago lanceolata) leaves and roots are known to contain several bioactive compounds (e.g., aucubin, catalpol and verbascoside) that may contribute to this inhibition. Recent laboratory studies indicate that this inhibition occurs via consumption by grazing animals of precursor bioactive compounds in aboveground biomass and their subsequent excretion as secondary metabolites in urine and/or via active exudation from the roots. Different cultivars of plantain have been shown to impart …

IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)
To achieve sustainability and food security we need expand the germplasm base and access novel genetic diversity to accelerate breeding. For developing new forage cultivars, the availability of a high-quality genome facilitates accurate characterization of new germplasm, and an understanding of the genetics underlying important traits. Here, we sequenced and assembled three high-quality chromosome-level forage genomes. The contig-level assembly of Cleistogenes songorica (2n = 4x = 40) comprised 540.12 Mb of the genome, with a contig N50 of 21.28 Mb. Complete assemblies of all telomeres, and of ten chromosomes were derived. The chromosome-scale genome size of elephant grass (2n = …

Theory And Application Of No-Till Reseeding Technology In Degraded Grasslands In China, Jingying Jing, Hongyan Ma, Yingjun Zhang
IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)
Grasslands occupy nearly 400 million hectares in China, accounting for about 40.7% of the total land area, provide multiple ecological and economic benefits. However, due to over-grazing and over-cultivation, more than 90% grasslands in China are threatened by degradation that has caused significant negative impact on biodiversity and ecosystem functioning, such as biodiversity losses, decreased productivity, increased soil erosion etc. Thus, restoration of degraded grassland is urgent for sustainable grassland management in China. No-till reseeding has been found to be an effective way for grassland vegetation regeneration with improved productivity and increased plant diversity via reseeding suitable species with minimum …
Rangeland-Centered Agroecosystems In Indian Central Himalayas: Operationalizing Ecological Sustainability In Mountain Agriculture, Vir Singh
IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)
Himalayan Mountains are home to unique agroecosystems harboring unique inter- and intra-species diversity in uncultivated and cultivated lands. The uncultivated lands are largely the rangelands which are ecologically more stable ecosystems than the cultivated lands which are ecologically prone areas. Rangelands, cultivated areas, and livestock in mountain agriculture are in organic linkages with each other, woven into a complex unitary whole, functionally oriented to produce foods and other life-supporting products – such as feed, fiber, fuel, fertilizers, etc. – and provide vital ecological functions. Rangelands in fragile Himalayan mountains serve as a key component of agriculture and the biodiversity conserved …

Maize-Alfalfa Intercropping Promote Ecosystem Services Than Fertilized Single Crops, D. X. Tao, Y. Z. Gao
IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)
Phosphorus is a non-renewable source of fertilization, which will challenge the future of food production and cropland sustainability worldwide. Crop diversity is known to promote food production, yet its capacity to alleviate the dependence of multiple ecosystem services on non-renewable fertilization remains virtually unknown. Here, we conducted a field experiment to quantify the contribution of maize-alfalfa intercropping to support multiple ecosystem services under contrasting levels of phosphorus fertilization. We showed that unfertilized intercropping systems can support larger levels of multiple ecosystem services such as soil microbial habitat, plant-soil mutualism, nutrient cycling, and soil carbon storage compared with phosphorus-fertilized single crops. …

A Transdisciplinary Approach To Landscape Transformation Towards Perennial, Diverse, Circular Systems: Why And How, V. Picasso, C. Williams
IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)
Prevailing agricultural systems in the U.S. are dominated by intensification through annual crop monocultures and high amounts of external inputs. Increased yields per unit of land have resulted but many undesirable environmental, ecological, and socioeconomic outcomes have co-occurred. Lack of resilience within intensified agricultural systems is a factor in these outcomes. Redesign of agricultural systems and changes in federal policy are needed to better support resilience in agriculture. Redesign for greater resilience must encourage adoption of agricultural systems that are diverse, perennial, circular, and include forages. We developed a transdisciplinary framework within a project orientation with a focus on crops …

Improving the practical skills of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) students at a historically black college and university (HBCU) was done by implementing a transformative teaching model. The model was implemented on undergraduate students of different educational levels in the Electrical Engineering (EE) Department at HBCU. The model was also extended to carefully chosen high and middle schools. These middle and high school students serve as a pipeline to the university, with a particular emphasis on fostering growth within the EE Department. The model aligns well with the core mission of the EE Department, aiming to enhance the theoretical …

Artificial intelligence and neuroscience have a long and intertwined history. Advancements in neuroscience research have significantly influenced the development of artificial intelligence systems that have the potential to retain knowledge akin to humans. Building upon foundational insights from neuroscience and existing research in adversarial and continual learning fields, we introduce a novel framework that comprises two key concepts: feature distillation and re-consolidation. The framework distills continual learning (CL) robust features and rehearses them while learning the next task, aiming to replicate the mammalian brain's process of consolidating memories through rehearsing the distilled version of the waking experiences. Furthermore, the proposed …
