The simulation of chemical reactions and mechanical properties including failure from atoms to the micrometer scale remains a longstanding challenge in chemistry and materials science. Bottlenecks include computational feasibility, reliability, and cost. We introduce a method for reactive molecular dynamics simulations using a clean replacement of non-reactive classical harmonic bond potentials with reactive, energy-conserving Morse potentials, called the Reactive INTERFACE Force Field (IFF-R). IFF-R is compatible with force fields for organic and inorganic compounds such as IFF, CHARMM, PCFF, OPLS-AA, and AMBER. Bond dissociation is enabled by three interpretable Morse parameters per bond type and zero energy upon disconnect. Use …

Deep neural networks (DNNs), while powerful, often suffer from a lack of interpretability and vulnerability to adversarial attacks. Concept bottleneck models (CBMs), which incorporate intermediate high-level concepts into the model architecture, promise enhanced interpretability. This study delves into the robustness of Concept Bottleneck Models (CBMs) against adversarial attacks, comparing their original and adversarial performance with standard Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs). The premise is that CBMs prioritize conceptual integrity and data compression, enabling them to maintain high performance under adversarial conditions by filtering out non-essential variations in input data. Our extensive evaluations across different datasets and adversarial attacks confirm that CBMs …

Could A Carbon Tax Improve Utah's Air Quality And Mitigate Climate Change?, Rose Cameron, Kendall Becker, Alexi Elizabeth Lamm, Scott Hotaling
All Current Publications
Urban areas in Utah have suffered from poor air quality since Euro-American settlement in 1847. Because today’s harmful air pollutants and carbon dioxide—the most significant driver of contemporary climate change—are often emitted together, a carbon tax could improve air quality while also mitigating climate change. Here, we explore how Sweden has successfully implemented a carbon tax and consider the viability of a similar approach for Utah. While a carbon tax would pressure Utah’s transportation and energy sectors to reduce reliance on fossil fuels, revenue from the tax could finance renewable energy infrastructure to support companies transitioning away from fossil fuels …

Research On Smart Energy Consumption Strategy Of Residents Participating In Peak Load Regulation, Jinzhi Wang, Lei Zhao, Fangming Deng, Ziwei Cao, Senlin Zhang, Rui Ma
Research On Smart Energy Consumption Strategy Of Residents Participating In Peak Load Regulation, Jinzhi Wang, Lei Zhao, Fangming Deng, Ziwei Cao, Senlin Zhang, Rui Ma
Journal of Electric Power Science and Technology
Focusing on enabling smart energy consumption for residential users, a smart energy strategy with incentives for residential users to participate in grid peak shaving is proposed. According to the load characteristics of household appliances, residential loads are classified into four categories, and corresponding mathematical models are established. Considering time constraints, electricity satisfaction constraints, and electricity bill satisfaction constraints, an optimization model for residential electricity consumption cost is established. Given that traditional time-of-use electricity pricing is inadequate in motivating residents to participate in grid peak shaving and valley filling, a peak shaving effect evaluation model is established based on cosine similarity, …
Enumerative Induction In Mathematics, Alan Richard Baker
Enumerative Induction In Mathematics, Alan Richard Baker
Philosophy Faculty Works
In my 2007 paper, “Is There a Problem of Induction for Mathematics?” I rejected the idea that enumerative induction has force for mathematical claims. My core argument was based on the fact that we are restricted to examining relatively small numbers, so our samples are always biased, and hence they carry no inductive weight. In recent years, I have come to believe that this argument is flawed. In particular, while arithmetical samples are indeed biased, my new view is that this bias actually strengthens the inductive support that accrues from them. The reason is that small numbers typically provide a …

Low-Emission Beef Production In The Southern Rangelands Of Western Australia: An Analysis Of Herd Structure And Stocking Rate Experiencing Droughts, Christophe D'Abbadie
Animal production and livestock research articles
Reconciling profitable cattle production with rangeland health and reduced emissions is a key challenge in the southern rangelands of Western Australia (WA). Stocking rate and herd structure selection are crucial decisions to achieve this balance. This study assessed the emission profiles of three contrasting herd structures (weaner production, live export, and slaughter production), and three stocking rates within a herd–carbon accounting modelling framework. The analysis considers the impact of varying drought frequencies on these cattle production systems. Herd models were developed for the semiarid southern WA rangelands. Stocking rates were set at 100%, 80% and 66% of the government recommended …
The Relationship Between Student Performance On Assigned Mastery Goals And Staar Performance In K-8 Texas School Students, Agamyrat Altyyev
The Relationship Between Student Performance On Assigned Mastery Goals And Staar Performance In K-8 Texas School Students, Agamyrat Altyyev
Student Theses and Dissertations
This study investigates the relationship between mastery goal performance and achievement on the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) test. With policies like the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) placing increased importance on standardized-state assessments, schools are making efforts to improve scores, often by focusing heavily on test preparation. However, such conventional methods can restrict teaching in unproductive ways. Mastery goals, based on achievement goal theory, offer a potential alternative, although limited research exists on their impact on testing outcomes. The researcher evaluated a mastery goal intervention for 224 students in grades 3-8 from a Texas school using …

The Heat Kernel On A Finite Graph In Different Time-Scales, Yang Chen, Jay Jorgenson, Luis Lopez, Lejla Smajlovic
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
Let G be a finite, weighted graph, and let [[EQUATION]] be a Time-scale with a fixed point [[EQUATION]] such that sup[[EQUATION]]. In this paper we construct the heat kernel on G in Time-scale [[EQUATION]] in terms of a certain convolution series involving he heat operator acting on a parametrix, which is a fairly general function depending on the vertex set of G and the time variable [[EQUATION]]. We develop some applications by choosing different parametrices and various Time-scales. The results we obtain here do extend, in part, aspects of the recent articles in that the Time-scale considered in this paper …

Φ−Pluriharmonicity And Φ−Invariance Of Pointwise Bislant Riemanniansubmersions, Grayson Light, Cem Sayar, Mehmet Aki̇f Akyol
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
In this research, we investigate the intriguing realm of pointwise bislant Riemannian submersions, a generalizationof many previous submersions, such as antiinvariant, slant, semislant, pointwise slant, pointwise semislant, and bislant submersions, within the framework of almost product manifolds. After giving an original example, wedelve into the submersion’s integrability conditions and geodesics. We explore the concept of φ−pluriharmonicity andφ−invariance within this context. The study sheds light on the profound interplay between pointwise bislant submersions’fibers and their being either geodesic or mixed geodesic, offering valuable insights into these intriguing mappings’geometric properties.

Comprehensive Computational Study On Transient Heat Transfer In Functionally Graded Longitudinal Fins Under Time-Varying Laser Heating, Hüseyi̇n Demi̇r, İnci̇ Çi̇li̇ngi̇r Süngü, İbrahi̇m Keleş
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
The present study assumes that the material properties of the fin vary by a force rule in the axial direction, with the exception of the thermal relaxation coefficient, which is assumed to be constant. The temperature distribution in the longitudinal fin with homogeneous cross-section exposed to the laser heat source is numerically investigated. This is because these constraints lead to a linear differential equation with partial solutions that can't be analytically resolved using conventional methods, except for a few elementary order functions. Consequently, a linear or non-linear system of equations as a function of time is obtained by transforming a …
A Note On The Hull And Linear Complementary Pair Of Cyclic Codes, Zohreh Aliabadi, Tekgül Kalayci
A Note On The Hull And Linear Complementary Pair Of Cyclic Codes, Zohreh Aliabadi, Tekgül Kalayci
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
The Euclidean hull of a linear code C is defined as C ∩ C⊥ , where C⊥ denotes the dual of C underthe Euclidean inner product. A linear code with the trivial hull is called a linear complementary dual (LCD) code. Apair (C,D) of linear codes of length n over the finite field Fq is called a linear complementary pair (LCP) of codes ifC ⊕ D = Fnq. More generally, a pair (C,D) of linear codes of the same length over Fq is called a linear ℓ -intersectionpair of codes if C ∩D has dimension ℓ as a vector space …
A Short Note On Generalized Robertson Walker Spacetimes, Uday Chand De, Aydin Gezer
A Short Note On Generalized Robertson Walker Spacetimes, Uday Chand De, Aydin Gezer
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
In this article, generalized Robertson Walker spacetimes are investigated in light of perfect fluid spacetimes. First, we establish that a perfect fluid spacetime with non-vanishing vorticity whose associated scalars are constant along the velocity vector field becomes a generalized Robertson Walker spacetime. Among others, it is also shown that a Ricci parallel perfect fluid spacetime is either a generalized Robertson Walker spacetime or a static spacetime. Finally, we acquire that in a conformally semi-symmetric generalized Robertson Walker spacetime of dimension $4$, the scalar curvature vanishes and the spacetime is locally isometric to the Minkowski spacetime, provided the electric part of …

Spherical Product Hypersurfaces In Euclidean Spaces, Sezgi̇n Büyükkütük, Günay Öztürk
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
Spherical product surfaces are obtained with the help of a special product by considering two curves inn−dimensional space. One of their special cases is rotational surface. The reason why the present study is significantthat the spherical product is used to construct hypersurfaces. (n−1)−curves are needed during this construction. Firstly, the spherical product hypersurfaces are defined in E4 , Gaussian and mean curvature are yielded and then conditionsbeing flat or minimal are examined. Moreover, superquadrics, which are associated with spherical product, are handledfor the first time in hypersurface form and give some examples. Finally, spherical product hypersurfaces are generalizedto n−dimensional Euclidean space …

An Identification Method Based On Mtf Visualization And Improved Densenet For Power Quality Disturbances, Shuai Shi, Ziwen Chen, Dongmei Huang, Qi He, Yuan Sun, Wei Hu
Journal of Electric Power Science and Technology
Aiming at the problems of complex process and insufficient refinement of artificial feature selection in traditional power quality disturbances (PQDs) classifier, a new PQD recognition method based on Markov transition field visualization and improved DenseNet is proposed. Firstly, the one-dimensional PQD signal is mapped into a two-dimensional image by MTF. Then, the image is input into an improved DenseNet with a new channel attention mechanism. Finally, the network is trained to extract features from a large number of samples by itself, so as to realize the correct recognition of PQD signals. The example results show that: in the case of …
