Investigating The Effectiveness Of Traditional Vs Hybrid Time Series Models In Operational Planning., Cristina Priolo

ICT

This study conducts a systematic comparison of traditional and hybrid time series forecasting models for operational planning in a SaaS company, using large multichannel, multilanguage datasets aggregated at six-hour intervals. Classical models (ARIMA, SARIMA, ETS) are evaluated against hybrid models (ARIMA-ANN, SARIMA-ANN, ETS-ANN) to assess their ability to capture both linear and nonlinear patterns. Forecasts over a three-month horizon were evaluated using RMSE, MAE, and MAPE, with hyperparameter optimization applied to all models. Results show that hybrid models, particularly ARIMA-ANN and SARIMA-ANN, outperform traditional models in predicting volatile and high-volume data, while traditional models remain competitive for stable datasets. These …

The Impact Of Behavior Skills Training On Secondary Math Teachers’ Use Of Evidence Based Classroom Management Strategies, Molly E. Jouflas, Kimberly Dean Dr., Peggy Hickman Dr.

Capstone Showcase

School-Wide Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (SW-PBIS) is a research-based approach that improves student engagement, behavior, and school culture, primarily in elementary schools, but is growing in secondary schools. Secondary teachers often resist SW-PBIS due to perceptions that it’s meant for younger students and the belief that high schoolers should already know socially appropriate behavior. One significant barrier to its implementation is the lack of time and space for effective teacher training at the secondary level (Estrapala et al., 2021; Swain-Bradway et al., 2015). Behavior skills training (BST), derived from applied behavior analysis, has proven effective in training educators to …

Price Sensitivity In The Secondhand Market: An Analysis Of Consumer Behavior On Ebay, Reyna Kleemeier Jan 2025

Price Sensitivity In The Secondhand Market: An Analysis Of Consumer Behavior On Ebay, Reyna Kleemeier

Scripps Senior Theses

The secondhand market is rapidly expanding, driven by growing consumer interest in sustainable consumption and economic value. This thesis examines consumer price sensitivity within the online resale market. Using a unique dataset of eBay clothing transactions, I employ an OLS regression model to analyze price elasticity of demand across various categories of new and used goods. I find that used goods exhibit characteristics of Veblen goods, where higher prices correlate with increased demand, suggesting that consumers perceive elevated prices as signals of rarity, quality, or exclusivity. My results highlight the nuanced dynamics of online resale markets, where consumer behavior is …

Precision Bootstrap Studies Of Fermions And Stress Tensors In Conformal Field Theories, Matthew Stephen Mitchell Jan 2025

Precision Bootstrap Studies Of Fermions And Stress Tensors In Conformal Field Theories, Matthew Stephen Mitchell

Yale Graduate School of Arts and Sciences Dissertations

Conformal field theories (CFTs) describe a wide variety of scale-invariant phenomena. As CFTs are tightly constrained by symmetry, unitarity, and self-consistency, it is possible to compute rigorous bounds on their observables by translating these constraints into a semidefinite programming problem. This approach, known as the numerical conformal bootstrap, has been used to great success in recent years, and has produced the tightest bounds to-date on the critical exponents of 3d Ising and O(N) models. In this work, we conduct bootstrap studies of spinning operators in several CFTs.

First, we present a numerical bootstrap analysis of the critical 3d Gross–Neveu–Yukawa models, …

Same Dynamics, Different Graph: Exploring Correlations, Similarities, And Renormalization Of Dynamics On Networks Using Temporal Distance Theory, Matthew Hockenbrock Jan 2025

Same Dynamics, Different Graph: Exploring Correlations, Similarities, And Renormalization Of Dynamics On Networks Using Temporal Distance Theory, Matthew Hockenbrock

Master’s Theses

Analyzing dynamics that take place on graphs (networks) is fundamental to modern network theory, with applications spanning biology, social networks, and engineering systems. A significant body of research exists that considers the similarity and scaling of network topologies. However, understanding how dynamic behavior varies across different graph topologies - particularly how signals propagate and dynamic behaviors scale between small and large networks - remains a significant challenge.

To address this challenge, this thesis presents a comprehensive framework to analyze how dynamic signals propagate and scale on network topologies using temporal distance theory. Three research goals were accomplished. First, a …

On The Applicability Of Generating Pathological Speech Data Using Large Language Models, Caroline Hopkins Jan 2025

On The Applicability Of Generating Pathological Speech Data Using Large Language Models, Caroline Hopkins

SURF Posters 2025

Pathological speech data is scarce in Speech-Language Pathology (SLP). Synthetic data, thus, is an appealing alternative. It extends the amount of usable data without the risk for privacy concerns that naturally occurring data may bring. In this work, a collection of Large-Language-Model-based methods for generating synthetic pathological speech data are studied. Human experts in SLP as judges delivered negative opinions on the quality of the synthetic data generated by a variety of prompt engineering methods. From the judgements, the resulting data was found to be weak in reflecting the characteristics of the target disorders. Further research will involve fine-tuning the …

Moore Graphs, Trevor Saxton Jan 2025

Moore Graphs, Trevor Saxton

Williams Honors College, Honors Research Projects

A Moore graph is a simple regular graph, with n vertices, degree d, and diameter k, that satisfies the Moore bound: n = 1 + d (d − 1)k − 1 d − 2 . There are graphs for which the bound is met and in which existence and uniqueness are known. For k = 2 it is known that the Moore bound is achieved for d = 2, 3, 7, with the case of d = 57 conjectured to exist. For k = 3 the bound is achieved for only d = 3 [5]. Due to the construction of …

Insights On The Cranial Anatomy And Osteohistology Of Cyonosaurus, Alexander Acker

Dissertations

This study investigates the cranial anatomy and life history of the small-bodied gorgonopsian Cyonosaurus. Previous research on gorgonopsians has disproportionately focused on larger members of the clade, leaving smaller forms relatively understudied. This gap has led to several unresolved questions, the most pressing of which concerns gorgonopsian ontogeny. Specifically, it remains unclear whether small-bodied gorgonopsians represent genuinely diminutive adult individuals or juveniles of larger species. The specimen NHCC LB1087 presents an ideal opportunity to address this issue and gain new insights into the biology of small-bodied gorgonopsians. The first chapter focuses on cranial anatomy. Due to the specimen’s preservation, many …
