Review On State Of Art Of Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics Method And Its Advances In Solid Dynamics, Harold J. Mtyana

Tanzania Journal of Engineering and Technology (TJET)

The world is witnessing continued collapse of both buildings and other structures during earthquakes, which is an example of a dynamic effect. One cause of such disasters may be inadequacies of techniques for modeling of these structures during analysis and design as compared to their actual responses during dynamic events. Also, techniques for numerical modeling and analysis of structures in place are meshed methods which do not accurately capture the actual behavior of structural elements especially under high dynamic actions due to the assumption that mesh geometry is unchanged geometry tend to change with respect to time step of such …

Between Pedagogical Content Knowledge And Confidence: A Case Study Of Pronunciation Training And Teacher Preparation, Lena Barrantes-Elizondo, Joshua Gordon

Faculty Publications

While many teachers do not feel confident teaching pronunciation because of limited preparation in different areas, research has demonstrated positive effects of training in pronunciation pedagogy, as teachers who receive such training develop cognitions (i.e., knowledge, beliefs, thoughts, actions) that align with current tenets of pronunciation pedagogy. Drawing on this assertion, this paper reports the results of a qualitative case study with five pre-service teaching-English-to-speakers-of-other-languages (TESOL) teachers enrolled in a pedagogical pronunciation course as part of their teacher training program. The study’s main purpose was to understand the role of training in developing content knowledge (CK) and pedagogical content knowledge …

The State Of Global And African Ecology, Peter Knox Jan 2025

The State Of Global And African Ecology, Peter Knox

Landas

This article recounts the growth of concern for the environment in the latter half of the 20th Century, and its entry into Catholic magisterial theology. It expands on the ecological theory of planetary boundaries, and identifies how the theory surfaces in Pope Francis’ 2015 encyclical Laudato Si’. Based upon solid contemporary science, the encyclical is well founded to outline an appropriate and compassionate moral theology of care for creation. The article cites multiple instances where African people are at the nexus of environmental and social crises, focusing on how contemporary ecological factors affect women in particular. Environmental crises should not …

Effects Of Technical Debt On Software Interoperability, Leonard Peter Binamungu Jan 2025

Effects Of Technical Debt On Software Interoperability, Leonard Peter Binamungu

Tanzania Journal of Engineering and Technology (TJET)

Technical debt (TD) refers to sub-optimal development decisions that make the software costly to maintain and evolve. Examples of TD include structural complexity, violation of coding styles, and code complexity. Existing research has investigated the nature, causes and indicators of TD, as well as tools and strategies for managing TD. However, although TD could hinder the ability of a software system to be interoperable with others, existing literature has limited evidence on how TD affects systems interoperability. This limits the ability of software engineering teams to manage TD in ways that do not hinder systems interoperability. To fill this void, …

Conventionally, the size, shape, and biomechanics of cartilages are determined by their voluminous extracellular matrix. By contrast, we found that multiple murine cartilages consist of lipid-filled cells called lipochondrocytes. Despite resembling adipocytes, lipochondrocytes were molecularly distinct and produced lipids exclusively through de novo lipogenesis. Consequently, lipochondrocytes grew uniform lipid droplets that resisted systemic lipid surges and did not enlarge upon obesity. Lipochondrocytes also lacked lipid mobilization factors, which enabled exceptional vacuole stability and protected cartilage from shrinking upon starvation. Lipid droplets modulated lipocartilage biomechanics by decreasing the tissue's stiffness, strength, and resilience. Lipochondrocytes were found in multiple mammals, including humans, …

This paper plays within the moments felt as subject(ivity) formed within actual events, moments Whitehead describes as actual occasions. Moments pulled away from creative becoming, the Deleuze/Guattari conceptualisation of affect, their immanently relational nonbeing, to attune, or retune, into conformations acceptable to what Moten and Harney speak into as logistical capitalism and its assemblage of the ‘proper way to do things’.It is a thinking within the comprehensibility of logistical capitalism aiming “...to straighten us out, untangle [unravel] us...in the constant measure and regulation of flesh and earth,” conversing with Manning’s concept of the clear – the violent colonial destruction of …

Thermal Noise Measurement Below The Standard Quantum Limit, Ronald Pagano Jan 2025

Thermal Noise Measurement Below The Standard Quantum Limit, Ronald Pagano

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

Quantum mechanics places sensitivity restrictions on physical measurements. These limitations manifest themselves in interferometric force and displacement measurements as uncertainty both in the photon number measured at a photodetector (shot noise), and in the quantum radiation pressure applied to the interferometer (quantum back action noise manifested as quantum radiation pressure noise). The balance between shot noise and quantum radiation pressure noise imposes the Standard Quantum Limit (SQL). A large body of work has been dedicated to measuring these quantum effects and mitigating them. Owing to the inherently small scale at which quantum effects are visible, classical effects must be subverted …

The Paradox Of Taxing The Rich, Edward J. Mccaffery Jan 2025

The Paradox Of Taxing The Rich, Edward J. Mccaffery

Florida Tax Review

America does not tax its richest citizens, such as Elon Musk or Jeff Bezos, at all. This Article argues that part of the reason is the paradox that under current income tax law and theory, taxing the rich would cost resources that could be made available to benefit the not-rich. The Article explores the paradox in theory and practice, then points to ways to move beyond it. Taxing the rich will mean accepting compelling justifications for doing so other than providing resources to the not-rich. We must either pay the price or reset the terms of the debate to move …

Three-Rigid-Link Manipulator Robot Inverse Dynamic Model Using Ann Based On Pid Controller, M.A. El-Gohary, M.S. Elksas, A. E. Banna, S.G. Ahmad

Journal of Engineering Research

This work proposes an inverse dynamics model of a three-rigid -link manipulator robot employing a PID controller based on artificial neural networks. In order to attain precise position, neural network control algorithms are designed to handle nonlinear issues including robot manipulator control and uncertainty compensation. An artificial neural network with two layers that uses feedforward training is trained using the back propagation technique. By just fusing the ANN with other traditional control techniques, the suggested controller gives the network more information on the composition and dynamics of the system. The PID controller generates data that is used to train neural …
