Improving Cancer Diagnosis And Patient Outcomes With Deep Learning Models, Mariana Arriz-Jorquiera Jul 2026

Improving Cancer Diagnosis And Patient Outcomes With Deep Learning Models, Mariana Arriz-Jorquiera

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Cancer care depends on timely and reliable decisions, from detection and diagnosis to treatment planning and patient monitoring. These decisions are often made under uncertainty because medical images and healthcare data may be noisy, incomplete, or difficult to interpret. In breast cancer imaging, ultrasound is widely used because it is safe, accessible, and complementary to other imaging modalities. However, variations in image quality, acquisition conditions, and noise can obscure lesion boundaries and texture, affecting human interpretation and artificial intelligence reliability. This dissertation develops deep learning, image-analysis, and optimization methods to improve healthcare decisions under imperfect information. Its primary focus is …

Compressed Cinema As A Study In Llm Latent Spaces, Mallen Clifton

ELO (un)supervised 2026

In his article “Spec Acts” (2021), Matthew Kirschenbaum analyzes the AI-generated novel 1 the Road to develop his titular concept of the spec act, “the future in its multitudes collapsing into an actionable present.” With the proliferation of texts produced by generative AI and subsequent critical analyses of them, one element in particular calls for further theorization: “the future in its multitudes,” or more directly, the latent space. This echoes arguments by critics such as Antonio Somaini, who offered his own “Theory of Latent Spaces” last year. However, where Somaini’s attention is towards visual culture, I turn mine to the …

A Geometric Proof Of Lagrange's Theorem For Continued Fractions, Anton Lukyanenko, Joseph Vandehey Jul 2026

A Geometric Proof Of Lagrange's Theorem For Continued Fractions, Anton Lukyanenko, Joseph Vandehey

University of Tennessee Mathematical Journal

For regular continued fractions (CFs), points with finite expansions are exactly the rationals and, by Lagrange's theorem, points with eventually-periodic expansions are exactly the roots of non-degenerate quadratic equations with integer coefficients. We extend both results to proper and discrete Iwasawa CFs, including real, complex, 3D, quaternionic, octonionic, and Heisenberg CFs. Namely, the following three conditions are equivalent for a point $p$: $p$ has a finite expansion, $p\in \mathcal M(\infty)$ for the appropriate modular group $\mathcal M$, and $p$ is a fixed point of a parabolic transformation in $\mathcal M$. Eventually-periodic points correspond exactly to fixed points of \emph{loxodromic} elements …

The Role Of Perceived Academic And Peer Support In Mitigating Imposter Syndrome Among Adhd Students, Eden Morley Dr Jul 2026

The Role Of Perceived Academic And Peer Support In Mitigating Imposter Syndrome Among Adhd Students, Eden Morley Dr

Journal of Science Education for Students with Disabilities

Background: Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in higher education is associated with significant executive functioning deficits and performance inconsistencies. These challenges, alongside heightened rejection sensitivity, may predispose students to the Imposter Phenomenon (IP)—the persistent belief that one’s success is undeserved. While social and academic supports are known to buffer psychological distress, their specific role in mitigating IP within the ADHD student population remains under-researched.

Objectives: This study investigated the severity of IP among undergraduate students with ADHD and examined the protective roles of Perceived Social Support (PSS) and Perceived Academic Support (PAS), while exploring gender as a potential moderator.

Methodology: A cross-sectional …

Usability Of Bitcoin As Currency In Türkiye: Fourier Shin Approach, İsmail Cem Özkurt, Deniz Özyakışır, Yunus Kutval

The Indonesian Capital Market Review

This paper seeks to assess the feasibility of utilizing Bitcoin as a currency within Türkiye. To achieve this, the research analyzes long-term cointegration relationships between Bitcoin and both the US Dollar and Euro, employing monthly data from November 2017 to February 2025 and utilizing the Fourier Shin cointegration test. The results of the cointegration tests, bolstered by Fourier series analysis, reveal significant long-term cointegration relationships between Bitcoin and both the USD and Euro. The DOLS analysis indicates that a 1% rise in Bitcoin leads to a 14% decrease in the USD price and a 17% increase in the Euro. These …

Resolving The Jwst Cosmic Dawn Crisis And The Hubble Tension Via Non-Linear Elastic Strain Integration In The Dehp Substrate, Christopher L. Eckes

Defensive Publications Series

This technical disclosure formalizes a comprehensive, particle-free alternative to standard Lambda Cold Dark Matter (ΛCDM) cosmology by unifying the Dimensionally Extended Holographic Projection (DEHP) model, the Substrate Pushback Principle (SPP), and Informational Exomemory Cosmology (IEC). We demonstrate that the two most pressing crises in modern astrophysics—the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) "Impossible Early Galaxy" problem and the 5.6 km/s/Mpc Hubble Tension discrepancy—are not independent anomalies, but rather the direct macroscopic consequences of treating space as a passive geometric vacuum instead of a pressurized, two-dimensional (2D) viscoelastic phase fluid substrate (z=0) running a real-time holographic rendering engine.

By analyzing the material …

Ai To Ai Architecture: A Direct Latent-Space Tensor Routing Protocol & Immutable Neuromorphic Asic Architecture For Self-Regulating Milti-Agent Compute Networks, Christopher L. Eckes

Defensive Publications Series

Contemporary distributed Artificial Intelligence (AI) networks face critical limits in throughput, energy efficiency, and security due to their reliance on serialized -token interfaces (e.g., natural language, JSON, XML) for multi-agent cross-talk.

These traditional software-defined models introduce significant tokenization processing latency, suffer from compounding autoregressive gradient drift that causes runaway hallucination spirals over time, and present extensive vulnerability surfaces to adversarial prompt injections and gradient poisoning exploits.

This paper introduces a production-ready system architecture for a non-linguistic, machine-to-machine data routing engine and embedded cybersecurity shield, hardwired directly onto custom Neuromorphic Application-Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs).

The Bounded Cognitive Accelerator (BCA) protocol bypasses …

Anticipatory Action Fulfillment In Conversational Agents Via Speculative Native-Audio Llms And Streaming Latent Diarization, Tamar Yakar, Ilia Labzovsky Jul 2026

Anticipatory Action Fulfillment In Conversational Agents Via Speculative Native-Audio Llms And Streaming Latent Diarization, Tamar Yakar, Ilia Labzovsky

Defensive Publications Series

Current voice-activated conversational agents rely on sequential, text-based processing pipelines that introduce latency and fail during mid-utterance interruptions. A computational architecture is disclosed that replaces traditional speech recognition pipelines with a streaming native-audio large language model. Acoustic tokens are processed directly to maintain a real-time computational graph of an acoustic trajectory. Streaming latent diarization is employed natively within the model to mathematically segregate intersecting vocal trajectories. Parallel isolated execution branches are dynamically created when biometric shifts are detected, allowing background noise to be masked. Structured tool-calls are generated speculatively by an execution head before end-of-speech markers are reached. Conversational intent …

Gender Disparities In The United States Federal Government Stem Leadership, Naomi Hirose-Gormally Jul 2026

Gender Disparities In The United States Federal Government Stem Leadership, Naomi Hirose-Gormally

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Persistent gender disparities continue to limit women’s representation in senior science technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) leadership roles within the United States federal government, particularly at the GS‑13, GS‑14, GS‑15, and subject matter expert/senior executive service (SME/SES) levels. The purpose of this qualitative descriptive phenomenological study was to explore how women in senior STEM leadership experience and interpret gender disparities as they pursue and attain leadership positions. Data were collected through individual semi‑structured interviews with women serving in senior STEM leadership and analyzed inductively using phenomenological coding procedures to identify categories and themes that were grounded in participants’ lived experiences. …

Developing An Understanding Of Concavity Built On Covariation, Jade E. Gregg Jul 2026

Developing An Understanding Of Concavity Built On Covariation, Jade E. Gregg

Theses and Dissertations

This study investigated how six students developed a quantitative understanding of concavity founded in covariational reasoning through a series of task-based teaching interviews. A key finding was the importance of multivariational reasoning--the coordination of more than two variables--in helping students reason deeply about concavity in context. Common difficulties, including confusion about negative rates and overreliance on visual representations, served as productive opportunities for learning when addressed through carefully designed tasks and discussions. The findings extend existing frameworks of covariational reasoning and highlight instructional approaches that can support students in developing a robust, quantity-based understanding of concavity.

A Late Holocene (Late Bronze Age) Record Of The Syrian Elephant (Elephas Maximus Asurus) From Gavur Lake Swamp (Kahramanmaraş, Türkiye), Serdar Mayda, Yarenkür Alkan

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

The Syrian elephant (Elephas maximus asurus Deraniyagala, 1951) constitutes the extinct westernmost population of the Asian elephant and occupied parts of the Near East until the early first millennium BCE. Although historical, iconographic, and dental evidence for this population has been discussed extensively, its postcranial anatomy remains poorly documented. We present a revised osteological and morphometric study of cranial and postcranial remains recovered from the Late Bronze Age Gavur Lake Swamp assemblage (ca. 1650–1400 cal BCE) in Kahramanmaraş, southeastern Türkiye, during rescue excavations conducted in 2021 and 2022. The material derives from a natural swamp deposit rather than from an …

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

The tectonic framework of Northern Cyprus is presented in this study based on integrated fieldwork and paleoseismology. We identified multiple fault systems including the 214-km Dardere (Ovgos) Fault Zone (with seven segments), the Haspolat Transfer Fault, Mersinlik Fault, Yamaçköy Fault Zone, Boğazköy Fault, Alsancak Fault, and Geçitköy-Koruçam Fault Zone. Eleven paleoseismological trenches were excavated, with six yielding reliable results in terms of dating and stratigraphy. The results indicate recurrence intervals exceeding ~2500 years across different fault segments. The Dardere (Ovgos) Fault Zone shows the potential to generate earthquakes of up to Mw 7.80 with evidence of Holocene activity. The Haspolat …

Integrated Edge Detection Of Gravity Data And Seismicity Approach For Mapping Potential Faults In The Bolu Region, Hazel Deni̇z Toktay, Burçi̇n Di̇dem Tamtaş Jul 2026

Integrated Edge Detection Of Gravity Data And Seismicity Approach For Mapping Potential Faults In The Bolu Region, Hazel Deni̇z Toktay, Burçi̇n Di̇dem Tamtaş

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

The Bolu region, situated along the western–central segment of the North Anatolian Fault Zone (NAFZ), is characterized by a complex fault architecture in which multiple overlapping strike-slip segments and associated subsurface structures accommodate active crustal deformation. Although the principal fault strands of the NAFZ have been well mapped, several clusters of seismicity are observed in areas without clear surface fault expression, indicating the presence of subsurface or poorly expressed fault zones. In this study, we integrated edge detection methods with a seismicity approach to delineate active and buried structural features across the Bolu region. Bouguer gravity anomalies derived from the …

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

The so-called Harmancık “purple jade” from the Bursa region of northwestern Türkiye has attracted attention as a gemstone; however, its geological characteristics and provenance have long remained uncertain. This short communication presents new field observations along with mineralogical and petrological data concerning the provenance, metamorphic evolution, and geoarchaeological relevance of this unique rock type. The rock occurs as loose boulders scattered across cultivated fields in the villages of Akpınar, Kocapınar, and Gedikören, where it was previously interpreted either as part of Neogene sedimentary successions or as a high-pressure metamorphic rock affected by contact metamorphism. Our detailed mapping and field observations …

The Algorithmic Collusion Problem: A Judicial Framework For Analyzing Algorithms Under § 1 Of The Sherman Act, Rix Ryskamp Jul 2026

The Algorithmic Collusion Problem: A Judicial Framework For Analyzing Algorithms Under § 1 Of The Sherman Act, Rix Ryskamp

Washington Journal of Law, Technology & Arts

Courts are increasingly seeing Sherman Act Section 1 claims that involve AI and other software algorithms at the center of alleged conspiracies to unreasonably restrain trade—often called algorithmic collusion claims. Adjudicating these claims can involve complex analyses of how algorithms interact with alleged conspiracies. However, most of the Section 1 case law stems from traditional agreements and can be hard to apply to algorithmic collusion scenarios. This Article provides a framework that judges and other adjudicators might use to analyze the role of an algorithm in an alleged conspiracy without becoming bogged down in technical details early in the case. …

From Automation To Adjudication: Evaluating The Role Of Artificial Intelligence In Dispute Settlement, Karem Sayed Aboelazm, Muayad Ahmad Obeidat, Raghda Raafat, Nada Zuhair Alfil, Fady Tawakol

All Works

This paper explores the evolving transition from automation to adjudication by examining the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in dispute settlement processes. It assesses how AI can enhance procedural efficiency, support judicial reasoning, and improve access to justice. Adopting a qualitative and interpretive approach, the study analyzes academic scholarship, policy frameworks, and comparative international practices to understand the integration of AI within judicial and quasi-judicial settings (Abedi et al., 2025). The findings suggest that while AI significantly improves administrative processes and provides valuable decision-support tools, it also raises critical concerns regarding algorithmic bias, lack of transparency, and the risk of …

Portrait: A Calibrated Patient ‘Passport’ With Built-In Refusal - Describing Individuals Against A Reference Population, Daniela Oehring

School of Health Professions

Background Average-based summaries serve individual patients poorly. PORTRAIT is a calibrated, abstention-aware tool that describes where one patient sits relative to a reference population across 12 cardiometabolic markers, how confident that placement is, and which features drive it. PORTRAIT describes; it does not diagnose or predict. Abstention is a designed feature given the known limits of conditional coverage. Methods Conformal calibration was combined with distribution-free coverage bounds, quantile-regression coordinates, and copula-based joint structure. A frozen reference cohort (n=9421) supplied fixed calibration; a held-out cohort (n=2247) tested transportability across six strata. A release gate required the minimum per-slice coverage to hold across …

Observations On Recurrent Loss In The Neural Network Model Of A Partial Differential Equation: The Advection–Diffusion Equation, Jonah A. Reeger Jul 2026

Observations On Recurrent Loss In The Neural Network Model Of A Partial Differential Equation: The Advection–Diffusion Equation, Jonah A. Reeger

Faculty Publications

A growing body of literature has been leveraging techniques of machine learning (ML) to build novel approaches to approximating the solutions to partial differential equations. Noticeably absent from the literature is a systematic exploration of the stability of the solutions generated by these ML approaches. Here, a recurrent network is introduced that matches precisely the evaluation of a multi-step method paired with a collocation method for approximating spatial derivatives in the advection–diffusion equation. This allows for two things: (1) the use of traditional tools for analyzing the stability of a numerical method for solving PDEs and (2) bringing to bear …

Harmful Algal Blooms: Risks For Food In Utah, Jose Brandao, Sarah Erwin, Stephanie Vaughn, Clare Entwistle Jul 2026

Harmful Algal Blooms: Risks For Food In Utah, Jose Brandao, Sarah Erwin, Stephanie Vaughn, Clare Entwistle

All Current Publications

Harmful algal blooms (HABs) are a problem because they can produce toxins that make water unsafe for people, animals, and the environment. In recent years, HABs have emerged as a growing concern in freshwater systems throughout Utah, including irrigation canals, reservoirs, and livestock ponds. HABs in freshwater are caused by cyanobacteria, also called blue-green algae. These microorganisms can release dangerous toxins that can harm swimmers, pets, and the food supply. Unlike foodborne pathogens, these toxins cannot be removed by boiling, cooking, or washing the food. Therefore, regular monitoring is essential to detect HABs early and reduce exposure risks. This fact …

Determinants Of Home Composting Behavior In Supporting Sustainable Agriculture Among Smallholder Farmers: A Case Study In The Thai Nguyen Province Of Vietnam, Bac Ho Van, Hien Vu Thi, Xinh Ho Luong

Journal of Environmental Science and Sustainable Development

Home composting is a practical and sustainable approach for the management of organic waste generated in the home and agricultural production that contributes to both organic waste management and soil fertility enhancement. In the northern mountainous regions of Vietnam, smallholder farmers face limited adoption of sustainable waste management practices due to behavioral constraints, limited technical knowledge, and resource constraints affecting agricultural productivity.  This study applies and extends the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) by integrating behavioral and contextual determinants to examine home composting adoption among smallholder farmers in rural Vietnam. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) was used to reduce and structure …

"Todo: Fix The Mess Gemini Created": Towards Understanding Genai-Induced Self-Admitted Technical Debt, Abdullah Al Mujahid, Mia Mohammad Imran

Computer Science Faculty Research & Creative Works

As large language models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT, Copilot, Claude, and Gemini become integrated into software development workflows, developers increasingly leave traces of AI involvement in their code comments. Among these, some comments explicitly acknowledge both the use of generative AI and the presence of technical shortcomings. Analyzing 6,540 LLM-referencing code comments from public Python and JavaScript-based GitHub repositories (November 2022-July 2025), we identified 81 that also self-admit technical debt (SATD). Developers most often describe postponed testing, incomplete adaptation, and limited understanding of AI-generated code, suggesting that AI assistance affects both when and why technical debt emerges. We term GenAI-Induced …

From Insight To Impact: Segmenting Consumers By Their Regenerative Agriculture Priorities, Lourival Carmo Monaco Neto, Gustavo Stevanin De Souza, Owen Jerome Zakrzewski, Allan Wayne Gray

Department of Agricultural Economics Faculty Publications

Regenerative agriculture is gaining traction in agrifood value chains, yet its definitional ambiguity and the heterogeneity of consumer priorities create strategic challenges for commercialization. Firms commonly assume a homogeneous ‘sustainable consumer’ motivated by environmental outcomes, but research on consumer food values suggests that economic attributes often outweigh environmental concerns when trade-offs are required. This study segments U.S. consumers based on how they prioritize seven core attributes of regenerative agriculture: soil health, biodiversity, greenhouse gas emissions, water use, food prices, crop yield, and farmer profitability. Using forced-ranking data from 1231 nationally representative U.S. consumers surveyed in August 2024, we apply a …
