A Comparison Of Views On Teacher Leadership From Nationally Board Certified Teachers And Teachers Who Are Not Nationally Board Certified, In Illinois, Catherine Eads
All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Reform movements in K-12 schools in the United States have grown in urgency over the past 25 years. The urgency for reform was spurred by, A Nation at Risk: The Imperative for Educational Reform (National Commission on Teaching, 1996). Following the report educators in K-12 schools became more accountable due to the No Child Left Behind Act (2001). As a result, the National Commission on Excellence in Education recommended the establishment of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. This group developed the optional certification of National Board Certification of teachers. The purpose of this study was to investigate National …

Impacting Factors On Elementary Students Who Have High Levels Of Success In School While Living With Low Socioeconomic Status, Casey Patterson Smitherman
All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this qualitative case study was to deliver a better understanding of an impoverished students perspective of school success and, in particular, what factors lead students to be successful. In an effort to better understand why some students beat the odds, I met with groups of fifth and sixth grade students who have experienced school success on a variety of measures to hear directly from these preadolescents about what they believed has fostered their success. Three overarching themes emerged from the focus groups held at two different intermediate level schools in metropolitan suburban districts in Indianapolis, Indiana (a) …

Effects Of Peer Mentoring On High-Achieving, Low-Income First Year College Students, Ronda D. Taylor
All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations
ThisDissertation examined the impact a peer mentoring program had on student success as it related to self-efficacy and level of engagement. Unfortunately, graduation rates have fallen dramatically or have remained stagnant for many years. Institutions of higher Education are feeling the pressure from the government, employers, and students to improve their retention and graduation numbers. By enacting a peer mentoring program, especially for first-time, low-income students, students may be better equipped to navigate the higher Education system, have a support mechanism on campus, and be connected to various campus resources. Through peer involvement, level of engagement, and a better connection …
The Indiana State Senate Internship: A Quality-Of-Life Perspective And Its Place As An Innovative Education Model, Jeff Papa
All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The gap between the expectations and norms of higher Educational institutions and post-graduation employers can sometimes be wide. Internships and other experiential endeavors can help bridge this gap and provide a link between the two spheres, possibly with each component reinforcing the other. This paper examines in detail one such program: the Indiana State Senate Majority Internship Program, and relates how the experiences of this program compare to predictions and suggestions found in relevant literature.

Effects Of Emotional Intelligence On Academic Achievement In The Alternative High School Classroom, Rhonda L. Marcum-Phillips
Master's Theses and Doctoral Dissertations
This study examines the impact of emotional intelligence, academic self-efficacy in science and technology, and family background on academic achievement of alternative high school students. Gender, age, learning style, and ethnicity of the student are analyzed to determine any moderator effect on these relationships. Seventy-five students, ages 14 to19, who attend a public alternative high school were surveyed. Analysis of the data revealed a positive relationship for males between self-efficacy in STEM classes and family background (support) and their academic achievement in science class. A positive relationship was shown between self-efficacy in STEM classes and academic achievement, between self-efficacy in …
Navigating The Institutional Review Board For Librarianship Research, Carolyn Schubert
Navigating The Institutional Review Board For Librarianship Research, Carolyn Schubert
Selected Works
Librarians are encountering more opportunities to conduct original research and contribute to evidence based practices, but only 26% believe they have the educational training to conduct these tasks (Kennedy & Brancolini, 2012). One key step in this process is navigating an Institutional Review Board (IRB) to assure participants are treated in an ethical manner. What does it mean to protect research participants today? What does an IRB look for? What tips, tricks, and best practices can save you time with this process? Discussion of these questions and more are the focus of this webinar.

The Minimal Length Of The Lagrangian Cobordism Between Legendrians, Joshua M. Sabloff, Lisa Traynor
The Minimal Length Of The Lagrangian Cobordism Between Legendrians, Joshua M. Sabloff, Lisa Traynor
Mathematics Faculty Research and Scholarship
To investigate the rigidity and flexibility of Lagrangian cobordisms between Legendrian submanifolds, we study the minimal length of such a cobordism, which is a 1-dimensional measurement of the non-cylindrical portion of the cobordism. Our primary tool is a set of real-valued capacities for a Legendrian submanifold, which are derived from a filtered version of Legendrian contact homology. Relationships between capacities of Legendrians at the ends of a Lagrangian cobordism yield lower bounds on the length of the cobordism. We apply the capacities to Lagrangian cobordisms realizing vertical dilations (which may be arbitrarily short) and contractions (whose lengths are bounded below). …

Arithmetic Properties Of Fredholm Series For P-Adic Modular Forms, John Bergdall, Robert Pollack
Mathematics Faculty Research and Scholarship
We study the relationship between recent conjectures on slopes of overconvergent p ‐adic modular forms ‘near the boundary’ of p ‐adic weight space. We also prove in tame level 1 that the coefficients of the Fredholm series of the Up operator never vanish modulo p , a phenomenon that fails at higher level. In higher level, we do check that infinitely many coefficients are non‐zero modulo p using a modular interpretation of the mod p reduction of the Fredholm series recently discovered by Andreatta, Iovita and Pilloni.

Perceptions Of The Advanced Manufacturing Competency Model (Amcm) For Curriculum Development, Mark Doggett, Muhammad Jahan
Perceptions Of The Advanced Manufacturing Competency Model (Amcm) For Curriculum Development, Mark Doggett, Muhammad Jahan
SEAS Faculty Publications
The Advanced Manufacturing Competency Model (AMCM) model emphasizes building of competencies at all levels ranging from the shop floor production worker to manufacturing engineers. It consists of different levels of competencies organized hierarchically. The levels are personal effectiveness, academic, workplace, industry-wide technical, industry-sector technical, management and organization-specific competencies.
This paper discusses survey research on the perceptions of manufacturing students, faculty, and industry advisory board members regarding the AMCM. The research evaluated the manufacturing program based on perceptions of the AMCM competencies and the curricular coverage required for entry-level manufacturing professionals. Specifically, the survey sought to answer the following research questions: …

Assessment Of Specific T-Cell Receptor Engagement Without Necessity For Identification Of The Relevant Antigen, Harib Hassan Ezaldein
Assessment Of Specific T-Cell Receptor Engagement Without Necessity For Identification Of The Relevant Antigen, Harib Hassan Ezaldein
Yale Medicine Thesis Digital Library
Individual cancers, even of the same cell type, express unique arrays of distinctive tumor antigens, requiring accurate laboratory measurement of induced immunity against them problematic. Fluorescently tagged reagents (dextramers) that selectively engage clonal T-cell receptors (TCR) can cytofluorographically quantify both frequency and avidity antigen-specific T-cells, but cannot be synthesized without prior identification of the relevant antigen. Since clinically evident tumors may contain as many as 300 unique point mutations capable of generating a large number of uniquely antigenic proteins, and since procurement of such information for each cancer is currently unrealistic, it is presently only possible to assess responses to …

Human mathematical abilities comprise both learned, symbolic representations of number and unlearned, non-symbolic evolutionarily primitive cognitive systems for representing quantities. However, the mechanisms by which our symbolic (verbal) number system becomes integrated with the non-symbolic (non-verbal) representations of approximate magnitude (supported by the Approximate Number System, or ANS) are not well understood. To explore this connection, forty-six children participated in a 6-month longitudinal study assessing verbal number knowledge and non-verbal numerical acuity. Cross-sectional analyses revealed a strong relationship between verbal number knowledge and ANS acuity. Longitudinal analyses suggested that increases in ANS acuity were most strongly related to the acquisition …

At a proximal level, the physiological impacts of global climate change on ectothermic organisms are manifest as changes in body temperatures. Especially for plants and animals exposed to direct solar radiation, body temperatures can be substantially different from air temperatures. We deployed biomimetic sensors that approximate the thermal characteristics of intertidal mussels at 71 sites worldwide, from 1998-present. Loggers recorded temperatures at 10–30 min intervals nearly continuously at multiple intertidal elevations. Comparisons against direct measurements of mussel tissue temperature indicated errors of ~2.0–2.5 °C, during daily fluctuations that often exceeded 15°–20 °C. Geographic patterns in thermal stress based on biomimetic …

Syntheses And Characterization Of [4]Ferrocenophane, Ahmed Sabah Al-Doori
Syntheses And Characterization Of [4]Ferrocenophane, Ahmed Sabah Al-Doori
Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
Metallocenophanes are metallocenes in which the cyclopentadienyl ligands are connected by a molecular bridge. Recently, metallocenophanes have received increasing attention because of their structure, chemical reactivity, and potential use as building blocks for new materials. Even though metallocenophanes have been synthesized by different methods, the majority of these methods involved the use of iron with rare examples of other metals. Therefore, a new method was employed that in addition to making ferrocenophane, will allow us to synthesize metallocenophanes with V, Cr, Mn, Co, and Ni as central metals. This thesis reports the synthesis of [4]ferrocenophane via a “flytrap” route. The …
