Simulations Of The Helmholtz Equation At Any Wave Number For Adaptive Grids Using A Modified Central Finite Difference Scheme, Hafiz Abdul Wajid Jan 2016

Simulations Of The Helmholtz Equation At Any Wave Number For Adaptive Grids Using A Modified Central Finite Difference Scheme, Hafiz Abdul Wajid

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

In this paper, a modified central finite difference scheme for a three-point nonuniform grid is presented for the one-dimensional homogeneous Helmholtz equation using the Bloch wave property. The modified scheme provides highly accurate solutions at the nodes of the nonuniform grid for very small to very large range of wave numbers irrespective of how the grid is adapted throughout the domain. A variety of numerical examples are considered to validate the superiority of the modified scheme for a nonuniform grid over a standard central finite difference scheme.

Coefficient Bounds For Subclasses Of M-Fold Symmetric Bi-Univalent Functions, Sevtap Sümer Eker

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

In this study, we introduce and investigate two new subclasses of the bi-univalent functions; both $f(z)$ and $f^{-1}(z)$ are m-fold symmetric analytic functions. Among other results, upper bounds for the coefficients $\left a_{m+1}\right $ and $\left a_{2m+1}\right $ are found in this investigation.

Erforschung biologischer Ressourcen der Mongolei / Exploration into the Biological Resources of Mongolia, ISSN 0440-1298

Women Of Color In Higher Education: Challenges In The Hiring Process For Prospective Administrators, Demerris Brooks-Immel

Listening to the Voices: Multi-ethnic Women in Education

Women of color face unique challenges and barriers in higher education due to longstanding bias that directly impacts how objectivity, meritocracy, individuality, and experiential knowledge are viewed and assessed. In Women Faculty of Color in the White Classroom, Vargas discussed the challenges women of color face in pursuit of faculty positions in higher education. This essay highlights similarities to, and provides examples of, comparable challenges for women of color in pursuit of management and executive positions in institutions of higher education. It also makes specific recommendations regarding current practices in the hiring process of one state university.

An Integrative And Applicable Phylogenetic Footprinting Framework For Cis-Regulatory Motifs Identification In Prokaryotic Genomes, Bingqiang Liu, Hanyuan Zhang, Chuan Zhou, Guojun Li, Anne Fennell, Guanghui Wang, Yu Kang, Qi Liu, Qin Ma

School of Computing: Faculty Publications

Background: Phylogenetic footprinting is an important computational technique for identifying cis-regulatory motifs in orthologous regulatory regions from multiple genomes, as motifs tend to evolve slower than their surrounding non-functional sequences. Its application, however, has several difficulties for optimizing the selection of orthologous data and reducing the false positives in motif prediction.

Results: Here we present an integrative phylogenetic footprinting framework for accurate motif predictions in prokaryotic genomes (MP3). The framework includes a new orthologous data preparation procedure, an additional promoter scoring and pruning method and an integration of six existing motif finding algorithms as basic motif search …

Anisotropy, Phonon Modes, And Free Charge Carrier Parameters In Monoclinic Β-Gallium Oxide Single Crystals, Mathias Schubert Jan 2016

Anisotropy, Phonon Modes, And Free Charge Carrier Parameters In Monoclinic Β-Gallium Oxide Single Crystals, Mathias Schubert

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering: Faculty Publications

We derive a dielectric function tensor model approach to render the optical response of monoclinic and triclinic symmetrymaterials with multiple uncoupled infrared and far-infrared active modes. We apply our model approach to monoclinic β-Ga2O3 single-crystal samples. Surfaces cut under different angles from a bulk crystal, (010) and (201), are investigated by generalized spectroscopic ellipsometry within infrared and far-infrared spectral regions. We determine the frequency dependence of 4 independent β-Ga2O3 Cartesian dielectric function tensor elements by matching large sets of experimental data using a point-by-point data inversion approach. From matching our monoclinic model to …

Fabrication Of Diisopropylammonium Bromide Aligned Microcrystals With In-Plane Uniaxial Polarization, Shashi Poddar, Haidong Lu, Jingfeng Song, Om Goit, Shah Valloppilly, Alexei Gruverman, Stephen Ducharme

Stephen Ducharme Publications

Textured arrays of ferroelectric microcrystals of diisopropylammonium bromide were grown from solution at room temperature onto silicon substrates and studied by means of x-ray diffraction, atomic force microscopy, electron microscopy, and piezoresponse force microscopy. The needle-shaped crystals had dimensions of approximately 50 μm × 5 μm in the plane and were approximately 200 nm thick, where the dimensions and arrangement were influenced by growth conditions. The observations suggest an Ostwald ripening mechanism of the microcrystal growth. The crystals had the structure of the ferroelectric phase, where the polarization axis was in-plane and parallel to the long axis of …

Early Neurodevelopment: Notch Signaling, Axial Differentiation, Brain Patterning, And Neurogenesis, Adrian M. Bebenek '17

Independent Study

The vastly complex, delicate nature of the nervous system calls for a highly effective development system. The development of the nervous system begins early in embryogenesis and is one of the last systems to be completed after birth. Deemed to be one of the most important steps in the evolutionary progression towards sophisticated life, the pathways regulating neurodevelopment are highly specialized and conserved. Embryonic neurodevelopment is an important starting point for the understanding of brain anatomy, function, and its neurobiology. The past few decades have brought about numerous technological advancements allowing for the study of the earliest stages of embryonic …
