Video Object Extraction Using The Curvelet Transform, Usama Sayed, Mahmoud A. Mofaddel, Marwa M. Abd-Elgawad
Video Object Extraction Using The Curvelet Transform, Usama Sayed, Mahmoud A. Mofaddel, Marwa M. Abd-Elgawad
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In this paper a novel scheme for video object extraction based on the second generation of the curvelet transform which is called Fast Discrete Curvelet Transform (FDCT) via wrapping is introduced. The main advantages of using FDCT are the approximate properties and the high directional sensitivity of this transform. An imaginary component of the curvelet coefficients to extract the moving objects in the video sequence is used. The proposed algorithm is mainly divided into two steps. The first step is based on estimating the static background from the initial frames using FDCT, the seconded step is based on subtracting the …

A Quaternion-Esprit Source Localization Method With Uniform Loop And Dipole Pair Circular Array, Lanmei Wang, Minggao Zou, Guibao Wang, Zhihai Chen
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
Owing to the advantages of quaternion in describing vector sensor array data, a quaternion model of uniform cocentered loop and dipole (CLD) pair circular array is deduced and constructed in this paper. Two sets of synchronous time data are used to construct correlation matrix. According to the relationships of the two sets data and that of the two steering vectors, the array steering vector and the frequency of signals are obtained. The direction of arrival (DOA) is derived by dot division operation and the least square method. The polarization parameters are obtained using the relationship between the dipole steering vector …

An Efficient Analytical Method For Solving Singular Initial Value Problems Of Nonlinear Systems, Iryna Komashynska, Mohammed Al-Smadi, Omar Abu Arqub, Shaher Momani
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
The aim of the present analysis is to apply a relatively recent method, the residual-power series method (RPSM), in order to obtain efficient analytical numerical solutions for a class of nonlinear systems of initial value problems with finitely many singularities. The solution methodology provided the analytical solutions in terms of a rapidly convergent series with easily computable components. This novel approach possesses main advantage as compared to other exiting methods; it reproduces exact form when the solution is polynomial without linearization or perturbation; it can be applied without any limitation on the nature of the problem, type of classification, and …
Some Statistical Quantities Of A Quantum System In Hypergeometric And Negative Hypergeometric Distributions, Ali Algarni, S. Abdel-Khalek
Some Statistical Quantities Of A Quantum System In Hypergeometric And Negative Hypergeometric Distributions, Ali Algarni, S. Abdel-Khalek
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In this paper we introduce a quantum system of the interaction between a two-level atom and input field initially prepared in hypergeometric and negative hypergeometric distributions. We study the dynamics of nonlocal correlation measured by von Neumann entropy or the field entropy. The statistical properties of the considered field will be discussed through the evolution of Wehrl space entropy. The relationship between Wehrl space entropy and entanglement will be explored. The effects of the field distribution parameters on the evolution of statistical quantities will be examined. It is shown that when the field is closed to the classical state no …

Effect Of Partial Slip On Peristaltic Flow Of A Sisko Fluid With Mild Stenosis Through A Porous Medium, Nabil T. M. El-Dabe, Galal M. Moatimid, Mohamed A. Hassan, Doaa R. Mostapha
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
This paper investigates the effect of partial slip on peristaltic flow of a Sisko fluid through a porous medium. The flow is streaming through a tapered artery having a mild stenosis. The influences of heat and chemical reactions on blood flow are also taken into account. The governing equations of motion, energy and concentration are simplified by using the long wavelength and low Reynolds number approximations. The analytical solutions of these equations are obtained by considering a perturbation technique for small non- Newtonian Sisko fluid parameter. The pressure rise and friction force are numerically calculated. The numerical calculations with the …

An Interactive Method For Solving Multiple Objective Linear Fractional Programming Problem Based On Linear Optimization Models, Tahere Hossein-Abadi, Ali Payan
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
This study aims to present an interactive method in order to solve multiple objective linear fractional programming problem (MOLFPP) according to the linear optimization models. Based on the nonlinear nature of the MOLFPP, presenting interactive methods to solve this problem usually involves long, massive, and complex calculation processes. In this paper, the MOLFPP turns into a linear programming problem (LPP) by disregarding some facts (by considering some negligence) through a linearization process. Then, the answer obtained from the new LPP is tested by an LPP in order to determine whether it is efficient or not. Finally, an efficient or dominant …

Reliable Wavelet Based Approximation Method For Some Nonlinear Differential Equations, Pandy Pirabaharan, R. David Chandrakumar, G. Hariharan
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In this paper, we have developed a Chebyshev wavelet based approximation method to solve some nonlinear differential equations (NLDEs) arrising in science and engineering. To the best of our knowledge, until now there is no rigorous shifted second kind Chebyshev wavelet (S2KCWM) solution has been addressed for the nonlinear differential equations. With the help of shifted second kind Chebyshev wavelets operational matrices, the linear and nonlinear differential equations are converted into a system of algebraic equations. The convergence of the proposed method is established. Finally, we have given some numerical examples to demonstrate the validity and applicability of the proposed …

Using Clustering Algorithm To Validate The Golf Backswing Action Simulated By Microsoft Kinect Motion-Sensing Photography, Wen-Cheng Wang, Hao-Hsiang Ku, Seng-Su Tsang
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
While most golfers concern about the path that golf club travels on swing plane or the angle of the club face when addressing, rather the detrimental part may lie in golfer’s body rotation. This research delineate a measure in capturing golfer’s swing motions in which the Kinect motion tracking by Microsoft is adopted to validate the proposed measure. Subjects were hired to perform golf swings in front of the Kinect skeleton tracking system where subject’s 20 joint positions were recorded. The derived data were analyzed with ANOVA and multivariate clustering. Without clustering, the three investigated factors (gender, age and experience) …

A Comparison On Solutions Of Fifth-Order Boundary- Value Problems, Ali Akgül, Mustafa Inc, Adem Kılıçman
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
A fast and accurate numerical scheme for the solution of fifth-order boundary-value problems has been investigated in this work. We apply the reproducing kernel method (RKM) for solving this problem. The analytical results of the equations have been acquired in terms of convergent series with easily computable components. We compare our results with the numerical methods: Bspline method, decomposition method, variational iteration method, Sinc-Galerkin method and homotopy perturbation method. The comparison of the results with exact ones is made to confirm the validity and efficiency.

In this paper the commutator subgroups of the affine Weyl group of type e C n−1 (n ≥ 3) and the triangle Coxeter groups are studied. Also it is given all power subgroups of the affine Weyl group of type e A n−1 (n ≥ 3). We should note that, as in our knowledge, although the concept of this study seems in pure mathematics, it is known that affine Weyl groups have a direct relationship between discrete dynamical systems and Painlev´e equations (cf. [16]).

Solitary Solutions For Some Nonlinear Evolution Equations Using Bernoulli Method, A. Hussein
Solitary Solutions For Some Nonlinear Evolution Equations Using Bernoulli Method, A. Hussein
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
New solitary solutions of some nonlinear partial differential equations are constructed using the generalized Bernoulli method. The main idea of this method is to make use of Bernoulli differential equation which has a simple exponential solution. The ZK-BBM (Zakharov-Kuznetsov-Benjamin–Bona–Mahony), a nonlinear dispersive, and the general Burgers-Fisher equations are solved and numerically investigated. The ZK equation that describes two-dimensional, magnetized, collisionless pair ions plasma is also presented as a problem of physical interest. Comparisons with G’/G-expansion method are given for the sake of assessments of Bernoulli method. Successfully, this method not only gives new solitary solutions of the problems under consideration …

Chemistry Annual Research Symposium
Rare-earth niobates and tantalates are refractory materials that have been exploited in applications involving ion conductivity, photo-catalysis, and luminescence, both in doped and un-doped forms.
In general, refractory oxides have high melting points therefore synthesis of single crystals are more challenging. For example LnNbO4 can be grown readily by melt techniques such as Czochralski pulling ~1300 ˚C. However during the cooling crystal quality degraded resulting low quality crystals therefore high temperature melting techniques are not suitable for bulk single crystals growth.

Understanding The Role Of Nadh In Cellular Fe2+ Generation Of Hydroxyl Radical And The Effects Of Polyphenol Antioxidants, Craig Goodman, Julia L. Brumaghim
Chemistry Annual Research Symposium
Structurally similar polyphenols have opposite effects on rates of Fe3+ reduction by NADH. In future work, we anticipate exploring several avenues:
What is the role of autoxidation? UV-vis kinetic experiments in an air-free atmosphere should reveal if MEGA is increasing the pool of reducible Fe3+.
What occurs in the presence of H2O2 and/or increased levels of NADH? Mimicking the environment of a stressed cell should yield interesting information about antioxidant activity if the rates change significantly.

It is well known that fluorinated molecules play an important role in daily life. For example, organic molecules bearing either a fluorine atom itself or a short polyfluorinated substituent such as mono-, difluoro-, and trifluoromethyl groups, or pentafluoroethyl and perfluoropropyl groups are already widely used in medicinal and agricultural chemistry. In contrast, molecules with long perfluorinated chains have found vast application in materials science. Among the fluorine-containing moieties, the pentafluorosulfanyl (SF5) substituent occupies a special place.1 The pentafluorosulfanyl group brings unique properties to organic compounds and often improves their biological activities due to the group’s high chemical and metabolic stability, …
A Conceptual Model For Video Games And Interactive Media, Rachel I. Clarke, Jacob Jett, Simone Sacchi, Jin Ha Lee
A Conceptual Model For Video Games And Interactive Media, Rachel I. Clarke, Jacob Jett, Simone Sacchi, Jin Ha Lee
School of Information Studies - Faculty Scholarship
In this paper, we describe a conceptual model for video games and interactive media. Existing conceptual models such as the Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records (FRBR) are not adequate to represent the unique descriptive attributes, levels of variance, and relationships among video games. Previous video game-specific models tend to focus on the development of video games and their technical aspects. Our model instead attempts to reflect how users such as game players, collectors, and scholars understand video games and the relationships among them. We specifically consider use cases of gamers, with future intentions of using this conceptual model as a …

Dissolved Oxygen Monitoring In Kings River And Leatherwood Creek, Eric Cummings, Erin E. Scott, Marty Matlock, Brian E. Haggard
Arkansas Water Resources Center Technical Reports
The Clean Water Act (CWA) establishes the basic structure used to regulate water quality. Under the CWA, States are required to assess water bodies relative to water‐quality standards and designated beneficial uses and then to submit lists of impaired bodies every other year to the US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA). In 2015, at least 4,800 water bodies were listed as impaired by dissolved oxygen across the US (USEPA, 2015). Aquatic species like fish and macroinvertebrates depend on adequate dissolved oxygen for survival. Low dissolved oxygen can lead to fish kills, reduced aquatic diversity, and nuisance smells from anaerobic conditions – …

A Smart Polymer Hydrogel As A Chemical Sensor On Biomedical Implant, Md Arifuzzaman, Caleb Behrend, John Desjardins, Jeffrey N. Anker
Chemistry Annual Research Symposium
Orthopedic implants are manufactured to support on healing fractured bones. In United States, over 2 million fracture fixation devices, including intra-medullary nails, external fixation pins, plates, and screws, and over 600 thousands joint prostheses, are implanted in patients annually. While fairly common, these fixation surgeries (5%) sometimes lead to unavoidable infection, which only amplifies health care costs accumulated from the initial procedures. In most cases, bacterial biofilms acutely causes infection which is a major reason of medical device failure. In order to obtain proper infections detection around biomedical implants a non-invasive chemical sensor is required. In vivo detection of low …

Electrochemically-Preadsorbed Collagen Promotes Adult Human Mesenchymal Stem Cell Adhesion On Carbon Nanostructured Substrates, Tomás E. Benavidez, Marissa E. Wechsler, Madeleine M. Farrer, Rena Bizios, Carlos D. Garcia
Chemistry Annual Research Symposium
The effect of electric potential on the adsorption of collagen type I onto optically transparent carbon electrodes (OTCE) and its mediation on subsequent adhesion of adult, human, mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs) is described. Adsorption was investigated as a function of the protein concentration and applied potential. The resulting substrate surfaces were characterized using spectroscopic ellipsometry (SE), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and cyclic voltammetry (CV). While the higher applied potential and protein concentration, the higher the adsorbed amount, the application of potential values higher than +800 mV resulted in the oxidation of the adsorbed protein. Subsequent adhesion of hMSCs on the …

Investigation Of Ionic And Electronic Conductivities In Modified Carbon/Zirconia Composites, Jamie A. Shetzline, Jung-Min Oh, Stephen E. Creager
Chemistry Annual Research Symposium
Ionic and electronic conductivities were recently shown to be able to be independently probed utilizing a near-DC based method for free standing thin films containing mixtures of nafion and carbon black. Recently the mixed conductivity methodology was extended to packed powders in order to study ionic and electronic conductivities of carbon/zirconia nano composite materials for which molecular and polymer electrolytes were covalently grafted onto the carbon/zirconia particle surfaces. The method relies upon careful control of the nature of the contact between the sample and the current-carry-ing electrodes, as well as the geometry of the sample configuration.

We investigate the entanglement dynamics of two two-level atoms interacting with a quantized cavity field, considering the level shifts produced by the Stark effect. We perform comparisons of the entanglement evolution of this system when the cavity is filled with a Kerr-like medium. The presence of entanglement sudden death and sudden birth using extended Werner-like states is observed. Entanglement is guaranteed to survive and can be easily adapted to allow for periodic behavior. The similar dynamic relations between both the Kerr-like medium and the Stark-shift models are shown.
