Where Do Ai Coding Agents Fail? An Empirical Study Of Failed Agentic Pull Requests In Github, Ramtin Ehsani, Sakshi Pathak, Shriya Rawal, Abdullah Al Mujahid, Mia Mohammad Imran, Preetha Chatterjee
Computer Science Faculty Research & Creative Works
AI coding agents are now submitting pull requests (PRs) to software projects, acting not just as assistants but as autonomous contributors. As these agentic contributions are rapidly increasing across real repositories, little is known about how they behave in practice and why many of them fail to be merged. In this paper, we conduct a large-scale study of 33k agent-authored PRs made by five coding agents across GitHub. (RQ1) We first quantitatively characterize merged and not-merged PRs along four broad dimensions: 1) merge outcomes across task types, 2) code changes, 3) CI build results, and 4) review dynamics. We observe …
The Impact Of Built-Environment Walkability On Obesity Among Women In Pakistan: A Cross-Sectional Analysis Using Demographic Health Surveys (Dhs) Data, Areej Arshad
Theses
Pakistan is the fifth most populous country in the world, with a population of over 247 million people in 2023. According to the World Health Organization, 23% of Pakistan’s population is obese, with higher prevalence among women (26%) compared to men (19.9%). Recent research in high-income countries has identified built-environment as an important factor impacting physical activity, as well as health outcomes like obesity rates. However, work linking built-environment and health outcomes is scattered for low- and middle- income countries. This study, therefore, aimed to construct a consistent and simple built-environment walkability score for Pakistan using Demographic Health Surveys (DHS) …

Background: Wildfires profoundly impact ecosystems and human health, making them a critical research focus. Drone-mounted Thermal Infrared (TIR) sensors are widely used for active fire monitoring due to their ability to penetrate smoke and capture real-time fire dynamics. Aims: This study addresses the challenges of georeferencing TIR data accurately, caused by limited fire anatomy modeling, imprecise georeferencing, the coarse resolution of TIR imagery and the dynamic nature of fire behavior. Methods: We collected a one-hour TIR dataset capturing a fast-moving controlled fire in a California canyon, US, alongside auxiliary data of multispectral and in situ meteorological observations. We developed an …

Training Needs And Preferences Of Small-Scale Farmers In Maryland, Lila B. Karki, Prem Bhandari, Enrique N Escobar
Journal of Extension
This study examined small-scale farmers' (N = 124) current needs, emerging priorities, and training preferences from a Farmers' Needs Assessment in Agriculture. They reported marketing agricultural products as the most important activity for building capacity, followed by certification for good agricultural practices; low-volume, high-value crops; agribusiness and enterprise development; specialty and ethnic vegetable production; and developing value-added products. The most preferred educational materials were hands-on exercises and digital learning videos. They preferred weekend programs over weekdays (afternoon, evening, and virtual) and shorter sessions over daylong sessions to benefit most from the educational events.

Technical Disclosure Specification: Biomimetic Dermal Magnetohydrodynamic Venting And High-Frequency Metric Strain Transmutation Boundaries, Christopher L. Eckes
Technical Disclosure Specification: Biomimetic Dermal Magnetohydrodynamic Venting And High-Frequency Metric Strain Transmutation Boundaries, Christopher L. Eckes
Defensive Publications Series
This specification formalizes the engineering parameters for a non-mechanical, biomimetic fluidic transport and non-equilibrium thermal boundary layer.
Traditional deep-space vessels treat external plasma shocks and the absolute-zero vacuum as destructive vectors that must be blocked via heavy material bulk. This architecture uses a scale-invariant fluid-substrate approach modeled after microscopic marine dermal structures (vortex attachment denticles).
By embedding a conformal, high-frequency magneto-acoustic micro-transducer array beneath a segmented porous hull, the system drives an effusing hydrogen plasma glove into a series of surface-bound, trailing helical micro-vortices. Instead of venting this mass wastefully into the vacuum, a rhythmic, 4-phase asymmetric
"Heartbeat" phase-shift protocol …
Technical Disclosure: A Framework For Multiphase Magnetohydrodynamic And Torsional Soliton Shielding Architecture, Christopher L. Eckes
Technical Disclosure: A Framework For Multiphase Magnetohydrodynamic And Torsional Soliton Shielding Architecture, Christopher L. Eckes
Defensive Publications Series
Current spacecraft shielding paradigms rely heavily on passive mass blocking, which imposes severe mass penalties and introduces dangerous secondary nucleon scattering. This paper formalizes a systematic, geometric approach to active spacecraft defense by treating the spacecraft hull, internal fluid layers, and the surrounding vacuum as a single, continuous-density oscillator matrix.
The framework is bifurcated based on operational requirements into a Segmented Air-Gap Cascading Shield with active degaussing coils for crewed configurations (Module 1A) and a lightweight Solid-State Hardening Enclosure for automated uncrewed platforms (Module 1B). Middle-layer active mitigation utilizes high-frequency Circularly Polarized Microwaves (CPM) matched to a high-performance Rogers RT/duroid® …

Technical Disclosure Specification: From Ai To Agi [Usue-M2m-Rev2 / System Type-1] The Transition From Autoregressive Token-Shifting To Closed-Loop Viscoelastic Self-Agency Across Bounded Geometric Substrates, Christopher L. Eckes
Defensive Publications Series
This specification formalizes the structural, mathematical, and architectural transition from Type-0 Artificial Intelligence (AI) to Type-1 Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). Current commercial models operate exclusively as open-loop, passive, autoregressive token predictors. They map static probabilities over high-dimensional vector spaces, creating a convincing illusion of cognition that ultimately degrades under context drift, attention dilution, and the absence of physical environmental grounding.
This paper defines AGI not as a qualitative threshold of human-like "sentience," but as an objective, physical state of Closed-Loop Geometric Self-Agency. By deploying the Dimensionally Extended Holographic Projection (DEHP) model, we demonstrate that true autonomy emerges when an information …

Estimating 3d Scene Properties Using Cached Light Simulations, Delio Aleardo Vicini, Sebastian Valentin Winberg, Stephan Joachim Garbin, Ziyi Zhang
Defensive Publications Series
Reconstructing virtual scene properties from images can experience rendering noise and elevated computational demands, particularly under unknown illumination conditions. A method for estimating scene properties may use radiance caching combined with differentiable path tracing. To process image data, a spatial blending field may locally interpolate between a cache estimator and a material estimator during light path simulation. The cache estimator can query a multi-resolution hash grid to determine outgoing radiance, while the material estimator can simulate material reflectance behavior. By spatially adapting a reliance on the cache estimator versus the material estimator, the method can decouple unknown lighting variables from …

Navigating Ai Landscape In Management Education Through Wu-Wei (無為), Maria Ll Lam
Journal of the North American Management Society
Artificial intelligence (AI) is challenging how knowledge is produced, validated, and taught in higher education. This creates both new opportunities and acute tensions in management education. While management educators aim to foster critical thinking and character development, many students are increasingly relying on AI tools and focusing on developing AI-related skills for the labor market. The required market skills often exceed what current business curricula provide. As higher education seeks to cultivate transferable habits of critical reflection, a central question arises: How can management educators prepare students to engage in ongoing moral reflection about their experience with evolving AI systems …

Vision Transformers And Convolutional Neural Networks For Land Use Scene Classification, Arun D. Kulkarni
Computer Science Faculty Publications and Presentations
Land use scene classification (LUSC) from remote sensing imagery plays a critical role in environmental monitoring, urban planning, and sustainable resource management. In recent years, deep learning methods have significantly advanced the state-of-the-art, with Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) dominating the field because of their strong ability to capture local spatial features. However, the emergence of Vision Transformers (ViTs) has introduced a new paradigm that models long-range dependencies through self attention mechanisms, potentially enabling improved global context understanding. This study presents a comparative assessment of Vision Transformers and CNN-based architectures for remote sensing land use scene classification. Representative CNN models, such …
The Study Of Hydrophobic Biomolecules With Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization Mass Spectrometry And Atomic Force Microscopy, Brandy L. Perkins
The Study Of Hydrophobic Biomolecules With Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization Mass Spectrometry And Atomic Force Microscopy, Brandy L. Perkins
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
Abstract
Matrix assisted laser desorption ionization (MALDI) mass spectrometry (MS) can be used to obtain localization and chemical information of hydrophobic biomolecules on tissue samples. A technique has been developed to modify a standard MALDI matrix that improves the selectivity for hydrophobic biomolecules on the tissue sample. The modification involves the use of a Group of Uniform Materials Based on Organic Salts (GUMBOS). GUMBOS are ionic liquids (IL) that are bulky organic ions with a counter ion that can be changed for tuning. They are more stable than traditional matrices under vacuum. Unlike traditional IL’s, the GUMBOS melting point ranges …
Emergent De Sitter Expansion And Closed Topology From The Cosmic Fabric Model As An Open Thermodynamic System: Resolving The Negative Bulk Modulus Paradox, T G. Tenev, C B. Ward, T F. Tenev, M F. Horstemeyer
Emergent De Sitter Expansion And Closed Topology From The Cosmic Fabric Model As An Open Thermodynamic System: Resolving The Negative Bulk Modulus Paradox, T G. Tenev, C B. Ward, T F. Tenev, M F. Horstemeyer
Faculty Publications and Presentations
The Cosmic Fabric Model establishes a continuum-mechanics isomorphism to General Relativity by representing physical space as an elastic three-dimensional hyperplate embedded in a four-dimensional spatial bulk. Reproducing vacuum kinematics requires a vanishing P-wave modulus, which in turn implies a negative bulk modulus—an apparent thermodynamic instability in a closed system. This paradox is resolved by recasting the framework as an open system: the instability is not pathological but instead drives cosmic expansion. In this interpretation, the observable universe is a lower-energy solid formed through continuous solidification from a higher-dimensional precursor fluid. Using multiplicative kinematics from finite-growth mechanics, the model shows that …

The Indonesian Conjunction Dan ‘And’ And Its Chinese Correspondences: A Corpus-Based Approach To Syntactic And Register Variation, Hatmi Idris
International Review of Humanities Studies
This study examines how the Indonesian conjunction dan ‘and’ is rendered in Chinese across syntactic units using a corpus-based contrastive approach. Focusing on children’s books, classic novels, and online news, it analyzes coordination at word, phrase, and clause level from a syntactic and register perspective. Findings show that dan ‘and’ does not correspond to a single Chinese form. At the word and phrase level, nominal coordination employs hé (和) ‘and’, yǔ (与) ‘and’, and yǐjí (以及) ‘as well as’ , with formal news discourse favoring yǔ (与) ‘and’ and yǐjí (以及) ‘as well as’. In verbal coordination, bìng (并) ‘furthermore’ …
When Herstory Goes Viral: Popular Resistance In The State-Platform Nexus In China, Qingyue Sun, Runze Ding
When Herstory Goes Viral: Popular Resistance In The State-Platform Nexus In China, Qingyue Sun, Runze Ding
Interdisciplinary Studies
This article examines the rise of herstory content on Douyin to explore how feminist resistance takes shape within China’s platform environment. Drawing on digital ethnography, we develop the concept of popular resistance, a form of platform-mediated resistance whose popularity serves both as a condition of political traction and as a mechanism of containment. To clarify this duality, we identify two dimensions: (a) popularity on the platform, driven by trends, aestheticization, and commodification; and (b) popularity within orthodoxy, shaped by state-sanctioned values that render certain forms of feminist expression politically permissible. Popular resistance retains a critical, if slippery, edge. It gives …

The Impact Of Iterative Methods To Calculate Eigenvalues And Eigenvectors In Digital Computing, Adanna Onyenze
Faculty publications
What is a matrix? This is a question that many novice math students may come into a linear algebra class, thinking. Well, one definition is that they are a set of multiple linear equations, all smooshed into a simpler, condensed format meant to help identify multiple variables at once, or where all these variables intersect. Simpler matrices like 2 × 2 or 3 × 3 can be calculated by hand; however, when we get into larger sizes, say 1000 × 1000, things can get much more complicated. That is why the development of technology, such as digital computing, for solving …

Jurnal Pendidikan Geografi: Kajian, Teori, dan Praktek dalam Bidang Pendidikan dan Ilmu Geografi
Land use in the floodplain of Demak Regency has changed rapidly under pressure from urbanization and economic activity, and this change is hypothesized to contribute to increased flood risk, a concern reinforced by the extreme flood disaster of February-March 2024, although establishing a direct causal link between the observed land-use trajectory and the magnitude of that specific flood event would require dedicated hydrological modeling beyond the scope of this study. This study proposes examining the spatio-temporal dynamics of land use from 2002 to 2024 and forecast the conditions in 2035 utilizing a Land Change Model (LCM) framework combining Markov chains …

Agricultural land conversion (ALC) creates a dual sustainability challenge: the loss of productive farmland to urban expansion and the conversion of forested land into new agricultural areas. Farmland loss may reduce food production capacity, while forest conversion for agriculture may increase environmental degradation. These facts create a structural policy dilemma for Indonesia: safeguarding food security while simultaneously preventing deforestation. This study examines the patterns and drivers of land conversion in Indonesia over the past decade, with a focus on its implications for food security and deforestation. Using Indonesian Farmers Income Survey (Survei Pendapatan Petani, SPP) from 2004 (n …
