From Dialogue To Delivery: Engaging Non-State Actors In Gst Follow-Up, Aya Mohamed

COP30

Climate action is falling short where it matters most, on the ground, because those doing the work are often excluded from the system's tracking progress. The Global Stocktake (GST), meant to assess global climate efforts, remains focused on national governments, leaving out non-state actors (NSAs) who lead much of the real-world delivery. This exclusion stems from structural gaps in Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and the lack of formal ways for NSAs to engage meaningfully. Existing tools, like voluntary platforms and consultations, are not enough, they lack enforcement and true integration. This paper proposes two practical solutions: AI-powered Nested Climate Accounting, …

Baku Mathematical Journal

This study presents a comprehensive case study investigating the application of Variational Physics-Informed Neural Networks (VPINNs) combined with B-spline test functions for solving the generalized Kuramoto-Sivashinsky equation in one space dimension. The Kuramoto-Sivashinsky equation, a nonlinear fourth-order PDE, serves as a benchmark for modeling instabilities in fluid dynamics, combustion, and pattern formation. Our methodology leverages variational formulations to enhance solution accuracy while ensuring robust convergence. Through systematic numerical experiments, we demonstrate that VPINNs effectively capture complex dynamical behaviors in high-order nonlinear systems. The framework’s robustness is evaluated across different network architectures and multi-stage optimization strategies using Adam and L-BFGS optimizers. …

Farber Institute for Neuroscience Faculty Papers

Pancreatic/PKR-like endoplasmic reticulum (ER) kinase (PERK) is a kinase that, in response to ER stress, mediates dual homeostatic and pro-apoptotic signaling. Thus, intricate regulation is required for physiological function. Attempts to modulate PERK activity have shown that the determinants of adaptive vs. maladaptive signaling remain ambiguous. Here, with purified protein, we provide evidence that PERK binds copper, identifies residues required for interaction, and demonstrates that copper is necessary for kinase activity. Furthermore, cellular PERK activity can be modulated via copper availability, and this regulatory relationship can be manipulated to dictate ER stress tolerance. Critically, these phenomena translate to phenotypes in …

Constructions Of Compact Dupin Hypersurfaces With Non-Constant Lie Curvatures, Thomas E. Cecil

Mathematics and Computer Science Department Faculty Scholarship

A hypersurface M in the unit sphere Sn ⊂ Rn+1 is Dupin if along each curvature surface of M, the corresponding principal curvature is constant. If the number g of distinct principal curvatures is constant on M, then M is called proper Dupin. In this expository paper, we give a detailed description of two important types of constructions of compact proper Dupin hypersurfaces in Sn. One construction was published in 1989 by Pinkall and Thorbergsson [35], and the second was published in 1989 by Miyaoka and Ozawa [26]. Both types of examples have the …

Approxımatıon Of The Ahlfors-Beurlıng Transform In The Lebesgue Spaces, Baku State University, Baku, Azerbaijan, Rashid A. Aliev, Lale Sh. Alizade

Baku Mathematical Journal

The Ahlfors-Beurling transform is one of the important operators in complex analysis. It is the "Hilbert transform" on complex plane. This transform plays an essential role in applications to the theory of quasiconformal mappings and to the Beltrami equation with discontinuous coeffcients. Therefore, approximations of the Ahlfors-Beurling transform are of great interest. This article is devoted to the approximation of the Ahlfors- Beurling transform in the Lebesgue spaces. We prove that the approximating operators are bounded maps in the Lebesgue spaces and converges strongly to the Ahlfors-Beurling transform
