The Effective Of The Passive And Active Techniques On The Vibration Control System, Firas Jasim, Mohammed Mohammed, Hatam Kadhom
The Effective Of The Passive And Active Techniques On The Vibration Control System, Firas Jasim, Mohammed Mohammed, Hatam Kadhom
Engineering and Technology Journal
The interaction between structures and fluid flow in a direction perpendicular to the body can induce vibrations in the structure, a phenomenon known as vortex-induced vibration (VIV). This phenomenon may lead to structural failure due to resonance, which occurs when the natural frequency of the structure matches the vortex shedding frequency. Therefore, it is essential to employ vibration control devices to address the resulting high-amplitude instabilities. In this study, a subsonic wind tunnel with open-circuit specifications was constructed. This open-type wind tunnel generates airflow at varying velocities through the test section. To control vibrations around the cylindrical pipe, an Open-Loop …

The Influence Of Electrochemical Machining Parameters On Power Consumption And Mrr, Lara Salman, Abbas Ibrahim, Baraa Albaghdadi
Engineering and Technology Journal
The electrochemical machining (ECM) process is a highly developed method of working with metal. This process can be used to machine objects that are difficult or impossible to create using conventional machining processes. In this context, monitoring power consumption in industrial companies makes the process more energy-efficient, cost-effective, and sustainable, lowers energy waste from machine tools, and, thus, reduces costs. Therefore, the primary objective of this research is to determine how the ECM impacts power consumption and the material removal rate (MRR). Specifically, the workpiece was made of aluminum 6061 alloys, Al-Sic, and Al-B4C, using a stir casting process, while …

Globalization and technological advancements have emphasized the importance of efficient resource allocation for production, efficiency, cost reduction, and optimal use. The assignment problem, a long-term issue, has gained researchers' attention due to its significant impact on institutional success. It prioritizes resource allocation to minimize time and cost while ensuring the feasible execution of activities. The assignment issue can be balanced (the number of activities matches the number of resources) or unbalanced (the number of activities does not match the number of resources). This can lead to resources being left without assignments or activities without implementation when resources exceed activities. A …

Using Artificial Neural Networks To Predict The Compressive Strength Of Cement And Sawdust Ash-Treated Lateritic Soil, James Ukpai, Ugochukwu Okonkwo
Engineering and Technology Journal
Sawdust industrial residue could be hazardous to the environment, but it becomes pozzolanic when incinerated. Thus, harnessing sawdust ash (SDA) and lateritic soil as road construction materials for low-cost roads is apt. However, modeling and prediction of the properties of soils treated with SDA have received very little attention. This study predicted the compressive strength of lateritic soil treated with cement and SDA using an Artificial Neural Network (ANN). The soil was found to belong to A-2-4(0) in the AASHTO rating and clayey sand (SC) in the Unified Soil Classification System. The soil minerals composition was conducted using an x-ray …

Mapping Agricultural Lands At Risk Of Meteorological Drought In Iraq Using Geostatistics, Mohammed Azeez, Hisham Al Sharaa, Abdul Razzak Ziboon
Engineering and Technology Journal
Identifying vulnerable agricultural lands at risk of meteorological drought is challenging for researchers. Its complexity lies in the fact that agricultural lands are irrigated by two sources: rain and rivers. In this research, we have developed a geostatistical model to separate river-dependent lands unaffected by meteorological drought waves and land vulnerable to the risk of meteorological drought. The inputs of this geostatistical model are the vegetation index and the humidity index extracted from Landsat 8, the rainfall from CHIRPS, and the LULC from ESA. The correlation between the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), the Normalized Difference Moisture Index (NDMI), and …

This article examines representations of the Modern English Speaker of Korean (MESK) in the Oxford English Dictionary (OED), as lexicographers listened to and documented the language of this figure over the past century. I show that, until the early twenty-first century, the most salient type of MESK was the Koreanist, a white, masculine expert on and translator of Korean, the language of a racial other. By contrast, more recent Korean entries, influenced by the global spread of hallyu, have invoked the Korea Fan, a figure that potentially unsettles longstanding ideologies of language, race, and gender. Deflections in the propagation of charged ultra-high-energy cosmic rays (UHECRs) caused by magnetic fields make the identification of their sources challenging. On the other hand, the arrival directions at Earth of neutrons point directly to their origin. The emission of UHECRs from a source is expected to be accompanied by the production of neutrons in its vicinity through interactions with ambient matter and radiation. Since free neutrons travel a mean distance d kpc−1 = 9.2 (E EeV−1) before decaying, a neutron flux in the EeV range could be detected on Earth from sources of UHECRs in our Galaxy. Using …

Precision Measurement Of A Resistance Standard At Frequencies Up To 2 Mhz, Jurgen Schurr, Shakil A. Awan
School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics
We report on two-terminal-pair and four-terminal-pair (4TP) measurements of a 10 kΩ resistance standard by means of a commercial precision inductance-capacitance-resistance meter (LCR meter) at frequencies up to 2 MHz. We discuss the effect of cables on a resistance standard measured in either two- or 4TP configuration and demonstrate within which uncertainty the effect of 2.5 m long measuring cables can be corrected accurately. Such long cables are inevitable for precision measurements of the quantum Hall resistance (QHR) at high frequencies. Furthermore, the systematic effects of the LCR meter, such as the internal input capacitances, voltage and frequency dependences, and …

Plasmodium falciparum, the deadliest causative agent of malaria, continues to evade eradication efforts through widespread drug resistance. The recent development of ADC-028, a 4-aminoquinoline antimalarial with excellent activity and pharmacokinetic properties, prompted the investigation of bisquinoline analogs featuring similar structural motifs. Here, we describe a structure-activity relationship study that guided the optimization of compounds with key features, including the 4-anilinoquinoline core and diverse bridging linkers. Several analogs exhibited potent in vitro activity (IC50 < 20 nM) against both drug-sensitive and multidrug-resistant P. falciparum strains, while maintaining favorable cytotoxicity profiles. Among them, 25 demonstrated improved intrinsic metabolic stability (t1/2 = 121 min) and potent in vivo efficacy (ED50 = 0.32 mg/kg/day), achieving complete curative protection at a reduced dose compared to ADC-028. While 25 showed moderately reduced oral bioavailability (F = 43%) and a shorter half-life (T1/2 = 27.2 h) relative to ADC-028, its enhanced in vivo efficacy underscores its therapeutic potential. This work highlights a promising path forward in developing antimalarials that retain the efficacy of legacy compounds while overcoming modern resistance mechanisms.
