Robot Path Planning By Reinforcement Learning Based On Sac3q-Hdm, Dequan Li, Wan Xiong Mar 2026

Robot Path Planning By Reinforcement Learning Based On Sac3q-Hdm, Dequan Li, Wan Xiong

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: To address the issues of overestimated and underestimated biases, low sample utilization rate, and the inability to balance exploration and exploitation in reinforcement learning for path planning, an improved SAC method was proposed. The size balance of entropy was explored and utilized through adaptive temperature coefficient adjustment; on the basis of the SAC framework, a triple Critic architecture was introduced to dynamically weight and fuse the minimum and average values through Qvalue uncertainty, balancing overestimated and underestimated biases. A mixed dynamic sampling experience replay buffer was designed; experience data was partitioned based on reward thresholds; sampling ratios were dynamically …

Nerf Optimization Method And Simulation Research Based On Pre-Training And Differentiable Fuzzy Modeling, Yunjng Zhang, Minghui Yang, Hao Wang Mar 2026

Nerf Optimization Method And Simulation Research Based On Pre-Training And Differentiable Fuzzy Modeling, Yunjng Zhang, Minghui Yang, Hao Wang

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: To address the challenges of significant geometric modeling errors, severe detail loss, and low training efficiency in neural radiance field(NeRF) reconstruction under defocused blurred input scenarios, this paper proposes two optimization strategies. One strategy is introducing Triplane features generated by the pre-trained LRM as prior knowledge, and combining a lightweight decoder and directional LoRA module to replace large MLP, thereby reducing parameters and shortening convergence time. The second strategy is integrating a differentiable blurring model into the volumetric rendering step. By jointly optimizing the radiation field and spatially variable blurring kernels, reconstruction accuracy under defocused blurred scenarios is enhanced …

Virtual Train Operation Platform Based On Digital Twin, Ziying Wang, Congjun Sun, Guihu Li, Tianhao Zhang

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: In response to the limitations of traditional train operation simulation modeling, such as simplification, lack of adaptive adjustment capability for parameters, and proneness to error accumulation, a virtual train operation platform based on digital twin technology was proposed. A train model under specific railway lines was constructed. By combining with the intelligent operation and maintenance platform of the railway line, real-time train operation data was obtained and preprocessed. The adaptive chaos optimization algorithm was used to optimize the key parameters of train operation simulation online and establish a digital twin model of the railway line. This model adopted a …

Large-Scale Scene Registration Technology Based On 3d Gaussian Splatting Fusing Gps Prior Information, Fei Wan, Yong Yin

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: To address the challenges of low computational efficiency, slow convergence, and limited accuracy in large-scale 3D scene registration, a 3D Gaussian splatting (3DGS) registration method integrating GPS prior information was proposed. Spatial position priors provided by GPS were utilized to establish initial alignment through coordinate system transformations, narrowing the registration search space. Dense point cloud models were efficiently reconstructed by combining 3DGS technology. Highprecision alignment was achieved through a two-stage optimization of GPS coarse registration and fine registration. Experiments demonstrate that the GPS-assisted method reduces translation errors by 25%~50% and increases success rates to 98% in vegetation-covered and …

Research On Uav Path Planning Method Based On Collision Free Trajectory, Jun Xie, Qi Zhang, Yanyun Peng, Haonan Shi, Dongyang Li, Xi Liu

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: In view of the problems of poor quality, long time consumption, and low efficiency of the autonomous path planning method for unmanned aerial vehicles, a path planning method for unmanned aerial vehicles based on a collision-free trajectory was proposed. Under the premise of uncertainty, the time-related virtual points and collision threshold were set; the obstacle was modeled as a rectangle; the interest points around the rectangle were defined. The uncertainty optimization model between the unmanned aerial vehicles and the obstacle was established, so as to obtain the allowable edge of the collision-free trajectory of the unmanned aerial vehicles. The …

Research On Visual Place Recognition Algorithms For Complex Urban Environments, Peijin Liu, Minxin Zhang, Lin He, Yige Sun, Tingqi Su

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: Dynamic factors such as traffic flow and crowd density in complex urban environments reduce the accuracy of visual place recognition (VPR) algorithms. To solve these problems, a semantic-guided visual place recognition (SG-VPR) algorithm was proposed. A semantic-guided feature suppression module was designed. A semantic-guided module and feature suppression layer were constructed to reduce the dynamic object interference and more accurately extract the key static features. An adaptive triplet margin loss function (ATML) was proposed by improving the traditional triplet margin loss. The margins were adaptively adjusted according to the sample distribution, solving the problem of suboptimal solution convergence …

Knappett, Trevor Ferris, Matthieu Carriere, Alexandra Alvarez, Dario Omanovic, Subhamoy Bhowmick, Aaron Torres Huerta, Ramon Vilar, Jack N. Turney, Paul Lewtas, Dominik Weiss, Pascal Salaun

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Knowledge of arsenic inorganic speciation in groundwaters is critical for optimising water treatment approaches. Here, we characterise the on-site analytical performance of the As(V)-selective ImpAs ion-exchange resin to separate As(V) from As(III) in groundwater with contrasting redox conditions. Field speciation results obtained by ImpAs in the oxic, Fe-poor groundwaters of Guanajuato (Mexico) and in the reducing, Fe-rich groundwaters of West Bengal (India) agreed with voltammetry (slope of 0.91 ± 0.03, r = 0.99, p <  0.001, n = 21). Like for arsenic, oxyanions of Mo, V, U and Cr are retained by ImpAs but their reduced hydroxy forms are not. High As(V) extraction by ImpAs (>95%) was obtained in synthetic groundwater for hundreds of samples without any regeneration, highlighting negligible interactions of major anions such as sulfate, a major advantage over …

Reshaping Library Programming For Graduate Students Through Strategic Partnerships And Adaptation, Brian Vetruba, Caroyn Bishoff, Kate Peterson

Transforming Libraries for Graduate Students

In the wake of Covid-19, support structures dedicated to graduate student success at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities (UMN) underwent dramatic shifts. Centralized in-person events for graduate students were discontinued, departmental identities strengthened, and library outreach responsibilities were reshaped by institutional changes, including a reduction of library staff. This panel examines how academic libraries can adapt and innovate with decreased capacity to meet the diverse needs of graduate students. Panelists will share strategies for expanding campus partnerships and sustaining and scaling initiatives that equip graduate students – especially first-year, international, and BIPOC students – with essential research skills and …

Corporate Governance As Bloodsport, Jeremy Kidd, George A. Mocsary Mar 2026

Corporate Governance As Bloodsport, Jeremy Kidd, George A. Mocsary

Pepperdine Law Review

The modern Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) movement promotes diversion of corporate assets from shareholders to “stakeholders.” This is done in the name of a corporate duty to society. But “successful” ESG efforts threaten the success of the corporate form by inviting rent-seeking. This conflict between ESG principles and established theories and norms of corporate law is difficult to resolve because corporate law lacks the tools needed to understand the type of collective decision-making that occurs in the corporate setting. This Article is the first to apply public choice economics—the economic study of collective decision-making—to corporate decision-making to identify the …

What Would It Take To Compose The Ideal Library Dashboard As A 'Symphony' Of Library Data?, Evan Rusch, Heidi J. Southworth, Nat Gustafson-Sundell

Library Services Publications

Most areas of the library produce data informative about the scope and success of library services. Many areas use that data, but there might be a variety of approaches. In our library, we have developed online, interactive dashboards to understand the value of collections on our campus. Other library service areas might produce one-shot reports encapsulating their data, or they rely on analytics silos specific to their services. Our hope is to work toward a dashboard of all or most library services, possibly to include other learning services under the library roof. Instead of a ‘battle of the bands,’ we …

Generalizing Networks To Address Data Imbalance For Facial Action Unit Recognition, Andrew W. Sumsion Mar 2026

Generalizing Networks To Address Data Imbalance For Facial Action Unit Recognition, Andrew W. Sumsion

Theses and Dissertations

Facial action unit (AU) recognition is used in a variety of downstream applications, including sign language translation, dementia detection, pain detection, and other high-impact tasks that require understanding facial motion. Although AU recognition is a well-established field, a number of unresolved issues remain. An initial problem is the need to improve overall performance on the benchmark datasets, as measured by the average F1 score. Also, the performance across all individual AUs, not just the average F1 score, needs to be increased. Recently, the field has shifted its attention towards ensuring that AU recognition models generalize beyond the distributions represented in …

Faculty Research 2026

Heart weight (HW) is a critical parameter in cardiology and mouse research, commonly normalized to body weight (BW) or tibia length (TL) to account for size differences. Ratio-based normalization, however, assumes strict proportionality between variables, an assumption that is rarely tested and may bias group comparisons. We analysed HW, BW, and TL measurements from over 25,000 C57BL/6N wildtype mice generated by the International Mouse Phenotyping Consortium. Sex- and age-stratified analyses were combined with simulation-based modelling to evaluate empirical scaling relationships and the statistical behaviour of ratio-based normalization. Across all age and sex groups, correlations between HW, BW, and TL were …

Bicuspid Valve Closure And Backflow Prevention: Role Of Leaflet Geometry, Badr Kauoi, A Bou Orm, P Navet, James W. Baish, Lance Munn Mar 2026

Bicuspid Valve Closure And Backflow Prevention: Role Of Leaflet Geometry, Badr Kauoi, A Bou Orm, P Navet, James W. Baish, Lance Munn

Faculty Journal Articles

Bicuspid valves with crescent-shaped leaflets are found in lymphatic vessels and veins, where their primary function is to prevent reflux and ensure unidirectional flow toward the heart. These valves are passive, and their functionality emerges spontaneously from a complex interplay between the properties of the valve leaflets and the flow patterns developing within the vessel sinus region surrounding the valve. The main function of the valves is to limit retrograde flow, or reflux, but the optimal valve structure has not been well characterized. Here we investigate numerically how the length of the leaflets affects the valve efficiency in preventing reflux. …

Path Odd-Covers Of Graphs, Steffen Borgwardt, Calum Buchanan, Eric Culver, Bryce Frederickson, Puck Rombach, Youngho Yoo Mar 2026

Path Odd-Covers Of Graphs, Steffen Borgwardt, Calum Buchanan, Eric Culver, Bryce Frederickson, Puck Rombach, Youngho Yoo

Mathematics: Faculty Scholarship

We introduce and study “path odd-covers,” a weakening of Gallai's path decomposition problem and a strengthening of the linear arboricity problem. The path odd-cover number  of a graph G is the minimum cardinality of a collection of paths whose vertex sets are contained in  and whose symmetric difference of edge sets is. We prove an upper bound on  in terms of the maximum degree Δ and the number of odd-degree vertices  of the form . This bound is only a factor of 2 from a rather immediate lower bound of the form . We also investigate some natural relaxations of …

Community-Led Climate Vulnerability Assessment In Alviso, Ca, Addie Chappelle, Grace Falci, Gigi Jones, Alex Crouse

Environmental Studies and Sciences Senior Capstone

Located at the southern end of San Francisco Bay, Alviso is a historically underrepresented community facing disproportionate impacts of climate change. San José has directly contributed to Alviso’s infrastructure instability, particularly after its controversial 1967 annexation, which excluded Alviso residents from municipal planning processes. Alviso currently ranks in the upper quartile statewide for environmental burden with high exposure to hazardous waste, linguistic isolation, impaired waterways, and solid waste facilities. Our study produced a Community-Led Climate Vulnerability Assessment that centers resident knowledge and integrates it with environmental data to support equitable climate planning. We used a participatory, co-production research approach that …

Tusqh: Topological Control Of Volume-Fraction Meshes Near Small Features And Dirty Geometry, Brian Reese Shawcroft Mar 2026

Tusqh: Topological Control Of Volume-Fraction Meshes Near Small Features And Dirty Geometry, Brian Reese Shawcroft

Theses and Dissertations

This work develops a framework to create meshes with user-specified homology from potentially dirty geometry by coupling background grids, persistent homology, and a generalization of volume fractions. For a mesh with fixed grid size, the topology of the output mesh changes predictably and monotonically as its volume-fraction threshold decreases. Topological anti-aliasing methods are introduced to resolve pinch points and disconnected regions that are artifacts of user choice of grid size and orientation, making the output meshes suitable for downstream processes including analysis. The methodology is demonstrated on geographical, mechanical, and graphics models in two-dimensions (2D) and three-dimensions (3D) using a …

Assessing Misidentification Potential When Using Percent Developmental Delay As An Early Intervention Eligibility Criterion, Allison Gladfelter, Sarah Thomas, Christine Nguyen, Sarah O'Connor Mar 2026

Assessing Misidentification Potential When Using Percent Developmental Delay As An Early Intervention Eligibility Criterion, Allison Gladfelter, Sarah Thomas, Christine Nguyen, Sarah O'Connor

CISLL Publications

Purpose:

Several states' early intervention (EI) eligibility criteria require children to show developmental delay based on age-equivalent (AE) scores. Unfortunately, the use of AE scores to determine eligibility is not empirically supported because they do not account for the normal variability of scores found within the general population. The purpose of this project was to explore the likelihood of eligibility misidentifications based on AE scores rather than using standard scores that incorporate normal population variability.

Method:

Scoring tables from six standardized assessments commonly used for determining EI eligibility were digitally converted and analyzed using Python code. This code compared all …
