Deadmap: Open Yet Locked—Key-Controlled Dataset Protection With Feature-Level Collisions, Ting Yang, Mahabubur Rahman Miraj, Xinyu Lei, Nankun Mu, Hongyu Huang

Michigan Tech Publications

The performance of deep learning models relies heavily on high-quality datasets. However, under the prevailing paradigm of pretrained-model–based applications, once a dataset is publicly released, data owners largely lose control over how it is used for model training. Existing data protection approaches either focus on post hoc accountability or irreversibly destroy the training utility of the data through perturbations, making it difficult to simultaneously satisfy the dual requirements of offline public sharing, authorized and controllable usage. In this paper, we propose DeadMap, a reversible training usability control framework designed for model fine-tuning scenarios. DeadMap introduces a secret label permutation combined …

Graph-Based And Uncertainty-Aware Machine Learning For Academic Performance Prediction, Anca Olivia Muresan Mar 2026

Graph-Based And Uncertainty-Aware Machine Learning For Academic Performance Prediction, Anca Olivia Muresan

Electronic Theses and Dissertations 2020 - Present

Early identification of students at risk of academic failure is essential for timely pedagogical interventions and reducing dropout rates. While Artificial Intelligence (AI) has significantly advanced predictive modeling in education, two primary challenges persist: effectively modeling the complex, evolving relationships within heterogeneous educational data, and ensuring the reliability of model outputs for high-stakes decision-making. This dissertation addresses these challenges by proposing a comprehensive framework for early and continuous student performance prediction applied to the Open University Learning Analytics (OULA) dataset. First, we introduce a Heterogeneous Graph Neural Network (HGNN) approach that utilizes metapath structures to capture latent interactions between diverse …

Forbidden Induced Restrictions And Unavoidable Minors In Matroids, Matthew P. Mizell Mar 2026

Forbidden Induced Restrictions And Unavoidable Minors In Matroids, Matthew P. Mizell

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

Targets are matroids that arise from a nested sequence of flats in a projective geometry. This class of matroids was introduced by Nelson and Nomoto, who found the forbidden induced restrictions for binary targets. In this dissertation, their result is generalized to targets arising from projective geometries over $GF(q)$. In addition, targets arising from nested sequences of affine flats are introduced and the forbidden induced restrictions for these affine targets are determined.

In 1963, Halin and Jung proved that every simple graph with minimum degree at least four has $K_5$ or $K_{2,2,2}$ as a minor. Mills and Turner proved an …

Orthogonal Memory Projection For Alignment In Stateful Generative Models, Neel Mohbe Mar 2026

Orthogonal Memory Projection For Alignment In Stateful Generative Models, Neel Mohbe

Defensive Publications Series

A system and method is needed to mitigate potential alignment erosion in stateful generative models where continuous learning could alter pre-trained safety priors. The technology can introduce a parallel control architecture that may operate alongside a host model to help decouple learning capabilities from alignment constraints. The system can, for example, employ a dual intervention using a runtime residual correction interface to steer immediate output away from undesirable content, and an orthogonal memory projection interface to sanitize signals before they can be written to the model's persistent memory. By mathematically projecting undesirable components out of the memory-write signals, the system …

Journal of Media Literacy Education Pre-Prints

While there is broad consensus regarding the social and educational need for CML, its actual didactic content and especially the meaning of ‘critical’ are far from clear. The article argues for a turn to educational practices. Findings are based on empirical research on adult education in Vienna (Austria) consisting mainly of interviews with expert-practitioners in the field of adult education and media and/or digital literacy. We confront academic definitions of the critical impetus of CML with an analysis of innovative projects, which were designed for accessibility and addressed learners facing high educational barriers. Our findings encourage a turn towards the …

Research On Inter-Satellite Topology Design And Simulation Of Giant Leo Constellation Network With Consistent Pattern, Zhicheng Li, Shuaijun Liu, Lixiang Liu

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: The giant low earth orbit (LEO) constellation network uses inter-satellite links to form an intersatellite topology, realizing the transmission of data between satellites. In order to adapt to the nature of uniform and symmetrical distribution of satellites in the constellation, this paper used a consistent connection pattern between satellites to construct an inter-satellite topology, and by analyzing the arrangement of non-mirror links in the constellation, it was found that the connection method of each link of the satellite itself could be independent of each other, which reduced the simulation complexity and the solution space of the inter-satellite topology. …

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: The traditional model-based systems engineering (MBSE) method has problems of failing to fully exhibit complex combat logics in manned-unmanned collaborative combat system modeling, neglecting the scenario constraints in interface modeling, and requiring long-term and costly algorithm verification. In order to solve the problems, a methodology and design tool based on MBSE was proposed. An integrated verification method of a system's operational logic, interface design, and algorithmic design was constructed, thus providing a digital and rapidly iterative verification approach for system simulation. A verification environment for multiple key algorithm simulations was established, effectively reducing the economic cost of building verification …

Thermal Inequities In Public Parks And Open Spaces In Los Angeles Determined By Remote Sensing, Ashley Agatep, Joshua B. Fisher, Kainani Tacazon, Ambar Rivera, Rossmery Zayas, Reginald Archer, Juan Carlos Ruiz Malagon, Jason A. Douglas

Biology, Chemistry, and Environmental Sciences Faculty Articles and Research

Urban heat island (UHI) effects are amplified by disparities in community-level cooling infrastructure—such as urban public parks and open spaces (PPOS)—with the most severe impacts occurring in communities that lack sufficient city-wide cooling resources. We found that the underserved community of South Los Angeles, as compared to their neighboring West Los Angeles counterparts, suffers a double burden of inequitable (1) access to and (2) absence of cooling materials and surfaces within these spaces, resulting in significantly hotter temperatures. Identifying these inequities requires high-resolution temporal and spatial mapping of surface temperatures, which has been previously limited. In this community-based participatory research …

The Anthropology Of Life: An Interview With Perig Pitrou, Perig Pitrou, Tomas De Oliveira, Maddalena Canna Mar 2026

The Anthropology Of Life: An Interview With Perig Pitrou, Perig Pitrou, Tomas De Oliveira, Maddalena Canna

Transatlantic Forum

This interview focuses on the proposal for an "anthropology of life" developed by Perig Pitrou. The conversation traces the origins of this framework to fieldwork with the Mixe of Mexico, where rituals involving the metaperson "He Who Makes Being Alive" revealed a crucial distinction between "the living" (living beings) and "life" (the causes that make them alive). This separation underpins a comparative model examining how societies socialize two fundamental dimensions: the power to generate life and the fragility of individual existences. Methodologically, the approach draws on the anthropology of techniques, employing the concept of "agentive configurations" to analyze how humans …

Review Of 3d Human Reconstruction Methods Empowering Vr/Ar, Lisha Zhang, Yuchi Huo, Qi Ye, Anjun Chen, Shihui Guo, Jiming Chen

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: 3D human reconstruction is critical for VR/AR. Early methods relied on multi-view cameras and depth sensors but were costly. Mid-term approaches using parametric human models enabled efficient single-image reconstruction, while implicit neural representations improved fidelity yet suffered from low efficiency. Currently, 3D Gaussian Splatting achieves high accuracy and real-time rendering as a new paradigm. Challenges include detail distortion and limited generalization, and future development will focus on VR/AR integration.
