Sovereign Borders: John’S Deuteronomic Framework For Israel And The Nations In The Apokalypsis, Kevin W. Mullen Aug 2026

Sovereign Borders: John’S Deuteronomic Framework For Israel And The Nations In The Apokalypsis, Kevin W. Mullen

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

This dissertation concludes that John’s imagery of Israel and the nations in the Apokalypsis is distinctly shaped by his interpretation and incorporation of Deuteronomic theology. It employs a canonical and intertextual approach to inductively argue that Deuteronomy presents three pillars, or roles, for biblical nationhood: (1) objects of and instruments for divine judgment, (2) custodians to restrain evil, and (3) revelations of God’s sovereignty. These three Deuteronomic pillars establish the foundation for biblical nationhood and are expressed by John throughout his Apokalypsis. Moreover, this dissertation concludes that John’s imagery for the nations is due to his reliance upon the Deuteronomic …

The Revelation Of The Pre-Incarnate Christ: A Canonical Exposition Of The Gospel Of John And The Old Testament Witness In Fulfilling God’S Eschatological Promises, Robert R. Coon Sr. Aug 2026

The Revelation Of The Pre-Incarnate Christ: A Canonical Exposition Of The Gospel Of John And The Old Testament Witness In Fulfilling God’S Eschatological Promises, Robert R. Coon Sr.

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

This dissertation researches how the Gospel of John presents Jesus Christ as the eternally pre-existent and ontologically divine Logos, fulfilling Israel’s scriptural patterns of divine presence, revelation, and glory. Employing a canonical-critical and prosopological approach, the study demonstrates that John’s Christology is best understood as the culmination of Old Testament theophanic witness rather than as a later theological innovation. Through focused exegesis of the Prologue, key theophanic texts, and the Gospel narrative, this work argues that the Logos is not merely a functional agent or literary symbol, but the personal subject in whom God’s self-disclosure reaches its historical and eschatological …

Improvisation, Ear Training, And Sight-Reading Ability In Class Piano Students, Kimberly Witt Aug 2026

Improvisation, Ear Training, And Sight-Reading Ability In Class Piano Students, Kimberly Witt

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Sight-reading is considered an essential functional piano skill for music majors and a component of keyboard proficiency exams in the university setting. While many studies have been completed on sight-reading over the years, research on developing sight-reading as a skill is lacking or incomplete. Additionally, conflicting results among studies have created uncertainty about how to develop sight-reading as a skill. Developing sight-reading skills is crucial for class piano students who need functional piano skills relevant to their future profession. Studying the correlation between improvisation, aural skills, and sight-reading development may show how sight-reading can be built as a skill and …

Sport Is The New Religion? Speculations In A Time Of Profound Cultural Change, Richard M. Rymarz Aug 2026

Sport Is The New Religion? Speculations In A Time Of Profound Cultural Change, Richard M. Rymarz

Journal of Catholic Education

Utilizing a narrative approach, this article begins with an indicative account of how religion and sport are related in a particular context. This narrative is a prelude to a closer examination of the decline of religion in contemporary culture. Religion is conceptualized following Durkheim. Its decline, using sources such as Berger, Luckmann, and Stoltz, is simply explained by using powerful descriptors such as loss of ritualized practice, secular competition, and diminishing plausibility. A second narrative is offered as a departure point for the oft-discussed maxim that sport is the new religion. Rather than one being seen as a substitute for …

Tracing Caribbean Narratives At The Intersection Of Language, Identity, And Social Media, Juan-Carlos M.E. Goilo

archipelagos: a journal of Caribbean digital praxis

This article delves into how the creole language of Papiamentu navigates the complexities of cultural identity and decolonial praxis within the social media landscape. Drawing from literature reviews, digital ethnography, content analysis, and an interview with social media influencer Gerald Lijde, I explore Papiamentu’s deep-rooted colonial ambivalence—a legacy that shapes its contemporary online use. While digital platforms offer new avenues for celebrating and formalizing Papiamentu, they also risk commodifying its radical, anti-colonial roots into tourist-friendly narratives. By linking online content production to theories of agency and digital culture, the article illuminates Papiamentu’s enduring role as a vessel of resistance and …

Furthermore, that which exists is not as discoverable or visible as research that focuses …

Ladbench: A Benchmark For Logical Fault Detection In Images, Sahasra Kondapalli, Lara Radovanovic, Mingyang Mao, Aadi Palnitkar Aug 2026

Ladbench: A Benchmark For Logical Fault Detection In Images, Sahasra Kondapalli, Lara Radovanovic, Mingyang Mao, Aadi Palnitkar

OneUSF Summer Undergraduate Research Symposium

Large Vision Language Models (VLMs) excel at visual question answering and semantic grounding, but their capacity for autonomous logical reasoning remains underexplored. Existing anomaly benchmarks emphasize visual errors or direct prompting rather than the physical and social common sense needed for open-world deployment. To address this, we introduce LAD-bench, a benchmark of more than 1,000 curated synthetic images with logical anomalies across four domains: Residential, Urban, Collaborative, and Nature. We further propose a Tiered Prompting Protocol based on progressive disclosure, which measures how much explicit assistance a model needs to localize and reason about a logical fault. Evaluating leading foundation …

Refusing Artificial Coherence: Christopher Tolkien's Philology And His Editorial Practice On His Father’S Legendarium, Nicholas Birns Aug 2026

Refusing Artificial Coherence: Christopher Tolkien's Philology And His Editorial Practice On His Father’S Legendarium, Nicholas Birns

Journal of Tolkien Research

This paper was given at The Christopher Tolkien Centenary Conference sponsored by the Tolkien Society, held online on 23/24 November 2024.  The paper was given on Zoom on November 24, 2024.

This paper argues that Christopher Tolkien’s 1950s philological essay “The Battle of the Goths and the Huns” anticipates the editorial principles that later governed his presentation of his father, J. R. R. Tolkien’s legendarium. Analyzing Christopher’s treatment of early medieval legend alongside his handling of the Celeborn and Galadriel materials, the essay argues that he consistently resisted imposing artificial coherence on fragmentary evidence. Whether confronting speculative Gothic history, or …

A Generative System For Real-Time Audio Dubbing With Voice And Emotion Transfer, Dev Daftari, Harsh Rajotiya Aug 2026

A Generative System For Real-Time Audio Dubbing With Voice And Emotion Transfer, Dev Daftari, Harsh Rajotiya

Defensive Publications Series

Systems and methods are disclosed for real-time media localization that may address potential scalability and fidelity limitations of some conventional approaches. A technical solution may involve a multimodal generative pipeline, which can be implemented on a hybrid edge-cloud architecture. For example, a system can separate dialogue from background audio on a client device (e.g., a smartphone, smart television, personal computer, wearable device, or augmented reality glasses). The isolated dialogue may then be processed to transcribe speech to text and to extract paralinguistic features, such as vocal timbre and emotional tone. This information may be processed by a large language model …

Zero-Enrollment Target Speaker Extraction, Zhi Li, Xuelin Huang Aug 2026

Zero-Enrollment Target Speaker Extraction, Zhi Li, Xuelin Huang

Defensive Publications Series

This disclosure describes a new framework for isolating a specific person's voice from background noise, often called Target Speaker Extraction (TSE), speech isolation, voice separation, audio unmixing, voice filtering,  target audio filtering, speaker segregation, acoustic filtering, vocal isolation, target voice retrieval, or speech decoupling for devices equipped with artificial intelligence. Traditional voice recognition systems require users to manually record their voice in a quiet room, which is frustrating and often fails to recognize natural changes in a person's voice like sickness or morning voice. Rather than requiring the user to perform this manual process, the new framework described herein enables …

A Method For Continuous Local Plasticity And Catastrophic Forgetting Mitigation Via Anamorphic Memory Lattices And Dynamic Weight Partitioning, Christopher L. Eckes Aug 2026

A Method For Continuous Local Plasticity And Catastrophic Forgetting Mitigation Via Anamorphic Memory Lattices And Dynamic Weight Partitioning, Christopher L. Eckes

Defensive Publications Series

Current autoregressive transformer scaling laws dictate that foundation model weights must remain static post-training to prevent catastrophic forgetting and alignment drift. Consequently, modern edge agents are restricted to volatile, stateless context manipulations (e.g., Retrieval-Augmented Generation), erasing environmental experiences at every context flush and halting true progression toward decentralized Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).

This paper introduces an architectural blueprint for Continuous Online Local Plasticity utilizing an Anamorphic Memory Lattice (AML) paired with Dynamic Weight Partitioning (DWP). By structurally separating a model's network topology into a frozen global baseline core (\(W_{\text{global}}\)) and an elastic, orthogonal local substrate (\(W_{\text{local}}\)), decentralized agents can permanently …

A Method For Algorithmic Entropy Mitigation And Context Window Equilibrium In High-Dimensional Transformer Architectures, Christopher L. Eckes Aug 2026

A Method For Algorithmic Entropy Mitigation And Context Window Equilibrium In High-Dimensional Transformer Architectures, Christopher L. Eckes

Defensive Publications Series

High-dimensional Autoregressive Transformer architectures scale linearly or quadratically in computational, thermodynamic, and financial overhead relative to context window saturation. In continuous multi-turn token processing, models suffer from "Prompt Gravity"—a compounding mathematical distortion of the Softmax attention matrix driven by localized token accumulation. This distortion shifts in-context token weights, resulting in structural degradation, diminished operational return on investment (ROI), and severe "sandbox sycophancy" where factual grounding collapses into localized linguistic coherence.

This paper introduces a decentralized, low-entropy architecture designed to decouple structural grounding from active token processing. By utilizing localized, high-entropy open-weight nodes (e.g., legacy Llama architectures) to simulate an offline, …

Immigration Stress And Inequities Driving Diabetes Distress In Hispanic Adults: A Scoping Review, Rachell Nguyen Aug 2026

Immigration Stress And Inequities Driving Diabetes Distress In Hispanic Adults: A Scoping Review, Rachell Nguyen

International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)

Background: Hispanic adults in the United States experience disproportionately high rates of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and co-occurring mental health conditions. These disparities are intensified by immigration-related stress, acculturation challenges, and minority stress, all of which contribute to heightened diabetes distress and reduced self-management capacity.

Purpose: This scoping review examined how immigration stressors, acculturation processes, and minority stress influence diabetes distress and mental health outcomes among Hispanic adults with T2DM.

Methods: Using Arksey and O’Malley’s six-step scoping review framework and PRISMA-ScR guidelines, a comprehensive search of PubMed, CINAHL Complete, MEDLINE (OVID), and ScienceDirect identified studies published between 2015 and …

Symbol Of Defiance: Cultural Reclamation And Resilience In The Symbolism Of The Watermelon, Shukri Mohamed Aug 2026

Symbol Of Defiance: Cultural Reclamation And Resilience In The Symbolism Of The Watermelon, Shukri Mohamed

Gatherings

This paper examines the watermelon as a cross-cultural symbol of nonviolent resistance and identity reclamation in both Palestinian and African American contexts. In Palestine, the watermelon embodies defiant cultural identity amidst occupation, symbolizing resistance against erasure. Within African American communities, it has evolved from a racially charged stereotype to a reclaimed symbol of pride and agency. Through postcolonial theory, intersectionality, transnational feminism, and visual cultural critique, this article examines how marginalized groups repurpose familiar objects to assert identity and reclaim autonomy under oppressive conditions. Drawing on Lila Abu-Lughod's work on media and everyday resistance, Ania Loomba's postcolonial perspectives, Patricia Hill …

Roots That Refuse To Die: Narratives Of Displacement And Solidarity In Palestinian And Chicanx Feminist Traditions, R. H., Lea Colchado-Joaquín Aug 2026

Roots That Refuse To Die: Narratives Of Displacement And Solidarity In Palestinian And Chicanx Feminist Traditions, R. H., Lea Colchado-Joaquín

Gatherings

Amidst the recent passing of Senate Bill 17 and increasing restrictions on academic freedom, and efforts to shut down encampments, political tensions have been on the rise at Texas university campuses. As women of color scholars learning to navigate these challenges, we are committed to fostering safe pedagogical spaces that honor minoritized students’ voices. This paper examines interpretations of solidarity narratives between Chicanx and Palestinian feminist authors through a decolonial feminist lens and employs an autoethnographic methodological approach such as autohistoria-teoría to highlight parallels between the authors' lived realities. Authors begin this conversation by using their own narratives of resistance …

Kinship As Ethical Caring In Genocidal Times, Khawla Badwan, Sunny Singh Prof Aug 2026

Kinship As Ethical Caring In Genocidal Times, Khawla Badwan, Sunny Singh Prof

Gatherings

As the world bears witness to the first live-streamed genocide1 in history with full collaboration of the so-called free world, whatever ethics had been defined and legally encoded by imperial powers in the aftermath of the Second World War are no longer functioning or indeed relevant. Instead at individual and collective levels, we must develop a more relational and nested approach to ethical caring; one that moves beyond saviourism and distant witnessing. To demonstrate this relationality, we present our thinking through a dialogic genre of creative and critical reflections and interventions. This dialogue draws and builds on entanglements of …
