Correlations Between Work Environment, Affective, Normative, And Continuance Commitments Of Library Personnel In Public University Libraries In South-West Nigeria, Babatunde Ogunbanjo, Solomon Olusegun Awonusi, Ifedamola Olaniyi

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

Abstract

Personnel commitment to their organisations on an emotional, normative, and long-term basis is crucial to achieving organisational goals and objectives. Working circumstances for employees in any business, particularly university libraries are crucial to achieving these levels of dedication. The impact of the work environment on the affective, normative, and long-term commitments of library staff in Nigeria's South-West area was investigated in this paper. A total of 427 people participated in the study. The findings revealed that the work environment is related to affective commitment (R2 =.014; p.05), normative commitment (R2 =.004; p.05), continuance commitment (R2 =.033; p.05), and the …

Toward A Feminism Without Scaffoldings: Mapping A Research Project, A Narrative From The Field, And A Draft Bill, Debarun Sarkar Feb 2022

Toward A Feminism Without Scaffoldings: Mapping A Research Project, A Narrative From The Field, And A Draft Bill, Debarun Sarkar

Journal of International Women's Studies

The paper maps the site of a funded research project to understand how three knowledge articulations—harassment-knowledge, LGBTQ-knowledge, and intersectionality-knowledge—intersect in and around a research project and are produced, circulated, interrogated, and codified to note how intersectionality-knowledge effaces other possible articulations. The paper begins with an auto-ethnographic account of a Ford Foundation funded research project in India, led by key power-brokers of the LGBTQ+ movement, focusing on concerns of discrimination of non-normative genders and sexualities in India. The paper juxtaposes a Ford Foundation funded research project, a narrative from the fieldwork conducted for the project, and a draft of the Equality …

Women’S Studies, Gender Studies, And Lgbt/Queer Studies: Defining And Debating The Subject Of Academic Knowledge In India, Virginie Dutoya Feb 2022

Women’S Studies, Gender Studies, And Lgbt/Queer Studies: Defining And Debating The Subject Of Academic Knowledge In India, Virginie Dutoya

Journal of International Women's Studies

Women’s Studies is first introduced in Indian academia in the 1970s. There are now more than 150 centres conducting research on women and gender as well as numerous teaching programmes on these topics in India. Research on sexualities and non-heterosexual identities and practices, while less developed, also emerged in the 1990s. As in any academic field, research on Women’s Studies, gender, and sexuality has been marked by epistemic debates, in particular “terminology debates” (i.e., debates about the proper concepts for discussing gender and sexuality in India). Using a corpus of academic texts, course syllabi, and other academic documents as well …

Introduction: Gender Knowledge: Epistemological And Empirical Contributions From The Global South, Emmanuelle Bouilly, Virginie Dutoya, Marie Saiget

Journal of International Women's Studies

Women’s and gender studies are now accepted academic subjects in many Global South countries, whether the field is well established—even institutionalized—or still emerging. However, this phenomenon is under-studied, even though the history, ideas, and key concepts of women’s, feminist, and gender studies are becoming well documented in Europe and America (Lagrave; Brown; Bard; Clair and Heinen). This special edition therefore aims to shed light on knowledge production about women and gender in and by Southern countries, and not about these countries, as is often the case. On the one hand, this edition brings out the local, regional and global dynamics …

Illegal Small-Scale Mining In Asutifi North District, Ghana: Traditional Authority’S Tacit Support For An Illegality, Emmanuel Yamoah Tenkorang Feb 2022

Illegal Small-Scale Mining In Asutifi North District, Ghana: Traditional Authority’S Tacit Support For An Illegality, Emmanuel Yamoah Tenkorang

African Social Science Review

The control of mining has been a core issue of contention between the modern state and traditional authorities in Ghana since the colonial period. Even though there are regulations governing legitimate mining in Ghana, illegal small-scale mining, with strong traditional practices, has surged. This article uses interview data from Asutifi North District of Ghana to explain that traditional institutions, though aware of the illegality of these small-scale mines, performed rites enabling them. The state should cede some decision making over mineralized lands to traditional authorities so that they become part of the responsibility for mining in their area.

Emphasizing Multilingualism In Teacher Education Courses: Teacher Candidates’ Responses To Translanguaging Pedagogy, Tuba Angay-Crowder, Jayoung Choi, Ji Hye Shin, Nihal Khote

SoTL Commons Conference

One of the presenters has embedded translanguaging pedagogy in her Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) courses for several semesters to increase teacher candidates’ pluralistic stance when working with multilingual students from immigrant backgrounds. Translanguaging honors all linguistic repertoires that multilingual learners bring to meaning construction. As TESOL course work often centers on students’ advancement of English skills without necessarily emphasizing multilingual development, she intentionally included activities and assignments related to translanguaging. In this presentation, we discuss how her teacher candidates responded to this pedagogy. The shared findings have implications for teaching and learning in teacher education courses.
