Enhanced Edas Framework For Landscape Planning And Design Quality Evaluation Under Single-Valued Neutrosophic Sets, Kai Guo

Neutrosophic Sets and Systems

Landscape planning and design quality evaluation is a systematic analysis and assessment of landscape project designs. Its primary goal is to ensure functionality, aesthetics, and sustainability of the design. The evaluation covers aspects such as spatial layout, ecological conservation, plant arrangement, landscape effects, and human-centered considerations. Additionally, the evaluation considers the economic feasibility of the project, the practicality of construction, and the ease of future maintenance, ensuring that the landscape space meets diverse user needs while harmonizing with the natural environment. The landscape planning and design quality evaluation is MAGDM. The single-valued neutrosophic sets (SVNSs) are useful tools to cope …

Construction Of Almost Unbiased Estimator For Population Mean Using Neutrosophic Information, Rajesh Singh, Anamika Kumari, Florentin Smarandache, Shobh Nath Tiwari

Neutrosophic Sets and Systems

In classical statistics, the population mean is estimated using determinate, crisp data value when auxiliary information is known. These estimates can often be biased. The main objective of this study is to introduce the neutrosophic estimator with the minimum mean squared error (MSE) for the unknown value of the population mean as well as overcome the limitations of classical statistics when dealing with ambiguous or indeterminate data. Neutrosophic statistics was introduced by Florentin Smarandache. It is a generalisation of classical statistics that addresses ambiguous, unclear, vague, and indeterminate data. In this study, we have proposed neutrosophic almost unbiased estimator that …

Revision Strategies And Academic Socialization Of Multilingual Graduate Students, Sean E. Farrell Oct 2024

Revision Strategies And Academic Socialization Of Multilingual Graduate Students, Sean E. Farrell

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Research suggests that revision is a complex practice guided by a variety of factors; however, the nature of the relationship between these factors and the revisions themselves, along with how the revision process contributes to academic socialization, remains understudied. A more comprehensive understanding of revision can lead to a deeper understanding of the support that will be most effective for multilingual graduate students. This study thus aims to determine (1) what revision strategies multilingual graduate students use, (2) what factors mediate these strategies, and (3) the extent to which these revisions index a shift in academic socialization. To answer these …

L2 And Hl Student Perceptions Of Afro-Latinx Representation In Spanish Language Curriculum, Lillie Padilla, Rosti Vana

2024 Hispanic Linguistics Symposium

Afro-Latinx individuals often experience a lack of recognition within the United States, despite comprising a substantial portion of the population in Latin America, North America, and the Caribbean (García-Louis & Cortes, 2020; Pew Research Center, 2016). Moreover, in the educational curriculum, their portrayal mirrors the broader societal context, as current research reveals that Afro-Latinx individuals are frequently absent or misrepresented in Spanish language textbooks, thus impacting its users (authors, 2022; 2024). In this vein, the present study reechoes the voices of Afro-Latinx for recognition and visibility, emphasizing the urgent need for equitable representation in educational materials.

The study investigates L2 …

The Vanished Voices Of The Caribbean: Spanish Colonialism And The Pre-Columbian Languages In The First Voyages, Rafael J. Jimenez Baralt

2024 Hispanic Linguistics Symposium

The Caribbean Antilles, where its islands stretch from the coast of Venezuela to Florida, has been inhabited by various societies since 4000 B.C., shaping its history alongside its inhabitants. Language is crucial to the definition of history, the most obvious facet of civilizations. While archaeology and ethnography have provided some clues about the origins of the Caribbean's indigenous peoples, linguistic work has scarcely been discussed. For this reason, this work not only aims to provide a linguistic description of pre-Columbian Antillean languages but also to present, synthesize, and attempt to add linguistic analysis to the theoretical debate on the origins …

2024 Hispanic Linguistics Symposium

American consumption of Latin Music is at an all-time high (Billboard Charts, 2024; YouTube Music Charts, n.d.), and its popularity in the U.S. has allowed young, queer Caribbean Latina artists like Young Miko, Villano Antillano, and Tokischa to become more well known. These artists' large platforms mean that their speech has the potential of influencing the speech of their listeners, both Spanish speakers and learners. But what is that speech?

The goal of the study is to determine whether Young Miko, Villano Antillano, and Tokischa reflect their queer Caribbean Latina identity in their sociophonetics, both in their spontaneous speech and …

Preposition Stranding In Spanish Heritage Language As A Non-Local Language Variety., Rafael Jimenez Baralt, Fabian Reynoso Oct 2024

Preposition Stranding In Spanish Heritage Language As A Non-Local Language Variety., Rafael Jimenez Baralt, Fabian Reynoso

2024 Hispanic Linguistics Symposium

This study contributes to the ongoing debate on HS grammatical outcome due to cross-linguistic transfer by exploring preposition stranding (PS) between Spanish Heritage Speakers and immigrants in Texas. PS occurs when a preposition is stranded due to the extraction of its noun complement at the end of the sentence (Ross, 1986). Structurally, Spanish does not permit PS (Campos, 1991). However, Spanish Heritage speakers (HS) accept and produce ungrammatical cases of PS (Pascual y Cabo & Gómez, 2015; Phillips, 2018; Depiante & Thompson, 2013) due to cross-linguistic influence (Montrul & Polinsky, 2011; White, 2011). According to Pascual y Cabo (2015), PS …

Spanish In Catalan Interactions: Code-Switching As An Ideological-Discursive Strategy To Represent Others, Natàlia Server Benetó Oct 2024

Spanish In Catalan Interactions: Code-Switching As An Ideological-Discursive Strategy To Represent Others, Natàlia Server Benetó

2024 Hispanic Linguistics Symposium

Gumperz (1982) proposed that, in stratified societies, bilinguals may perceive their primary language as familiar and authentic (in-group) and the common language as foreign (out-group), encompassing how “speakers can shift their own perspective from experience-near to experience-distant” (Woolard, 2006: 77), and how those perceptions of proximity and distance are interrelated with particular languages. Despite the vast research on language mixing within the Hispanic world, little attention has been paid to the Catalan context in the field of code-switching (Casalmiglia and Tusón 1984; Millán 2020; Pérez-Sabater 2022). No studies to date discuss the implications of code-switching into …

Teaching Literacy: The Intersection Of Social Studies And Language Arts Through Integration, Christopher D. Moore, Jennifer Shiers, Pamela Mccabe, Jeremy Nix

Teaching Social Studies in the Peach State

Social studies education has always been an important component of K-5 education; however, as dedicated, content-specific instructional time has steadily decreased over the past two decades to give more time to mathematics and specifically English Language Arts, literacy scores have also decreased. Partnering ELA and social studies in the K-5 space allows for students to build their background knowledge in social studies, while increasing their literacy by using instructional resources connected to social studies during the ELA block, and then teaching social studies thinking skills during devoted social studies class time.

Inclusion Of American Sign Language In Science And Engineering, Alejandro Mejia-Tejada

Society for American Sign Language Journal

For the general public, deaf people are typically known for their signing skills and living as signers, not speakers. However, there is more to this picture. Specifically, one area of consideration and investigation relates to how American Sign Language (ASL) is used as a language in the domains of science and engineering. The other area of investigation relates to how deaf people contribute to the STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) fields. It will be demonstrated that deaf community members are making inroads into STEM through working as scientists and engineers, including one deaf person known for participating in training …

Hereditary Deafness And Society: The Quest For Ethical Awareness, Danielle Lavigne

Society for American Sign Language Journal

An excellent study of genetics and deafness is Martha’s Vineyard, a small island off the Massachusetts coast that was once known to have a sizable deaf population. This community that prevailed during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries relates many genetic concepts, giving insight as to why the deaf population was larger in proportion than that on the mainland. The paper will cover hereditary deafness in more depth than what has been discussed in the American Sign Language/Deaf Studies literature. This includes understanding the significance of population genetics. The paper also takes into consideration that many hearing residents of Martha’s Vineyard …

Best First-Year Seminar Writing

Poetry has been shaped by many intellectual and technological innovations. Renaissance poets would have found mesmerizing the use of mathematics that the Oulipo movement applied to poetry, which wanted to use mathematical constraints to produce poetry verses. Similarly, those members of the Oulipo movement or even just the followers, would find hypnotic how GenAI is now being applied to poetry and writing. GenAI, or AI, has been crippling into poetry, as something that does not know how to coexist with it. Now the community is presented with this new technological force as both an opportunity and a challenge: poets and …

Lenition And Language Contact In Peru, Brandon Rogers, Carol A. Klee, James Ramsburg

2024 Hispanic Linguistics Symposium

Lenition is defined as any type of articulatory consonantal weakening which can result in voicing, spirantization, or elision. Synchronically and diachronically, lenition has had a consistent and considerable influence on the development of Spanish as well as on its variation. For example, historically, intervocalic /p t k/ were lenited and voiced in Spanish and the other Western Romance languages Contemporarily, varying levels of lenition have been documented in wide array of Spanish varieties, some of which have been shown to correlate with different sociolinguistic factors. While the degree of lenition for different consonantal segments varies, the general consensus is that …
