Redefining Rural: A Strengths-Based Framework For Enhancing Educational Policy And Practice, Dawn A. Rowe, Michele A. Schutz, Hilary E. Travers, Jon Borland
Redefining Rural: A Strengths-Based Framework For Enhancing Educational Policy And Practice, Dawn A. Rowe, Michele A. Schutz, Hilary E. Travers, Jon Borland
The Rural Educator
The lack of a consistent definition of “rural” in education research and policy limits equitable decision making and resource allocation for rural schools. This exploratory study used a Policy Delphi approach to elicit expert and practitioner perspectives on how rural can be conceptualized through the rural cultural wealth framework. Twenty participants across 13 states identified and refined factors shaping educational decision making in rural contexts. Results revealed strong agreement that socioeconomic status, rural culture, and community engagement are central to defining rurality. Participants’ preferred definitions emphasized familial, social, and aspirational capital, highlighting how community cohesion and resilience shape educational opportunities. …

Voces Rurales: Understanding The Latina Rural College Student Experience, April Mazón
The Rural Educator
This article integrates research with lived experiences to explore the educational and career transitions of Latina rural college students and the unique challenges they encounter in navigating higher education and the workforce. Drawing on the phenomenological study “Voces Rurales: Examining Latina Rural College Student Experiences in Navigating Transitions from College to Career or Post-Baccalaureate Studies,” which coupled semi-structured interviews and photo elicitation methodology, this article highlights the critical intersection of rurality, gender, and ethnicity in higher education. The study focused on Latina undergraduate students in a rural border county with two institutions of higher education: a community college and a …
Challenges And Opportunities In Rural Education: The Case Of La Araucanía, Chile, Katerin Arias-Ortega, Viviana Villarroel
Challenges And Opportunities In Rural Education: The Case Of La Araucanía, Chile, Katerin Arias-Ortega, Viviana Villarroel
The Rural Educator
The article reports on the challenges that rural education has been facing in La Araucanía, Chile, from the perspective of Mapuche parents. The study’s methodology was qualitative and involved Mapuche families who sent their children to rural, single-teacher schools located in an Indigenous context. The findings indicate that Mapuche mothers perceive the education that their children receive in rural schools to be of lower academic quality. Furthermore, they acknowledge that rural education receives less economic support than education in urban settings, which creates a disadvantage for Indigenous and peasant children. This disparity limits their ability to acquire the same resources …

Discourse In Youth Organizations Functioning In Poland: Constructing A Platform For Dialogue, Magdalena Cuprjak, Celina Czech-Włodarczyk
Discourse In Youth Organizations Functioning In Poland: Constructing A Platform For Dialogue, Magdalena Cuprjak, Celina Czech-Włodarczyk
The Qualitative Report
Our research explores the degree to which youth organizations serve as platforms for open dialogue and examines how their discourse aligns with established principles of dialogism, as articulated by van Dijk (2001), Bakhtin (1982), and the 'authentic turn' concept proposed by Ostrowska (2017). In conducting this study, we anticipated finding variability in communication styles, expecting that some organizations—particularly those affiliated with the Polish Council of Youth Organizations (PROM)—would promote more inclusive, dialogic interactions. Conversely, we suspected that groups outside PROM, especially nationalist organizations like the All-Polish Youth, might display more exclusionary or ideologically driven messaging. Our expectations were rooted in …
Contextualized Classroom Management For Local Philippine Higher Education: A Faculty-Driven Framework, Jestoni Pueblos Babia
Contextualized Classroom Management For Local Philippine Higher Education: A Faculty-Driven Framework, Jestoni Pueblos Babia
Irish Journal of Academic Practice
Higher education classroom management is now recognized as an essential policy and pedagogical issue, especially in the Philippines, where local universities serve the diverse needs of Generation Z students. Participatory Action Research with 50 faculty members from a local university supports this study in developing a faculty-driven classroom management framework. Guided by Bandura's social learning theory, this framework emphasizes student involvement, restorative discipline, inclusion, digital integration, teacher leadership and institutional support. It draws on learning theory, Vygotsky's sociocultural theory, Deci and Ryan's self-determination theory, and Bronfenbrenner's ecological systems theory, among others. Results indicate that systems combining faculty creativity with consistent …
Building Trustworthy Information Systems: A Unified Framework For Comparative Risk Detection, Parisa Momeni
Building Trustworthy Information Systems: A Unified Framework For Comparative Risk Detection, Parisa Momeni
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Risk detection in large scale information systems increasingly depends on heterogeneous data generatedby both centralized and distributed ecosystems. While centralized systems provide curated and validated reports, distributed environments produce large-scale and real-time observational evidence. Existing computational approaches analyze these ecosystems in isolation, limiting systematic comparison of risk repre-sentations across heterogeneous sources.
This dissertation presents a unified computational framework for comparative risk detection across centralized and distributed information systems. The framework provides a domain independent methodology for transforming heterogeneous risk reporting data into comparable multidimensional representations. To enable interpretable comparison of heterogeneous risk distributions, this work introduces the Geometric Overlap Score …
Language Models For Oncology Clinical Text: How Model Architecture And Data Strategies Shape Tumor Phenotype Extraction And Disease Progression Detection, Thanh Duong
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The rapid growth of electronic health records (EHRs) has created new opportunities to apply machine learning to clinical data. However, a large portion of important clinical information is still stored in unstructured text, such as pathology reports, radiology reports, and longitudinal clinical notes. These documents contain key details about tumor characteristics, diagnoses, treatments, and patient outcomes.Extracting structured and useful information from this text is challenging due to complex medical language, varied document formats, and the need to combine information across multiple reports over time. This dissertation studies how language models can be designed and adapted to better extract and use oncology-specific information from …

Decolonizing International Law, Modirzadeh’S Critique, And Homework For Islamic International Law Scholarship: An Attasian Approach, Fajri Matahati Muhammadin, Rafsi Azzam Hibatullah Albar
Indonesian Journal of International Law
Naz Khatoon Modirzadeh published an article criticizing the Third World Approaches to International Law (TWAIL) movement for its purported inability to achieve its purpose as a response to one of the major international law decolonization projects. One of her criticisms is that TWAIL lacks a cohesive counter-vision of international law, actual representation of third-world views, and organized political movements. Within the heavily diverse (which is one of the problems) TWAIL camp, among others, is the voice of Islamic law. Most Muslim nations have been at the receiving end of the brute force of colonialism. Colonialism is, in fact, responsible for …
Crisis Aporias In Questioning International Law’S Efficacy And Legitimacy, Swati Singh Parmar
Crisis Aporias In Questioning International Law’S Efficacy And Legitimacy, Swati Singh Parmar
Indonesian Journal of International Law
International law events have been sites of contestation among teachers and scholars of international law and beyond. With each unsettling international event, the international law academe faces new wine in the old bottle questions on international law efficacy based on managerial expectations of international law. Though mostly unfair and disproportionate, these questions–diffused and embodied in teaching and otherwise–weigh heavily on international law’s efficacy and legitimacy during and even beyond the temporality of such events. Before any objective and horizontal assessment of IL through crises, as international law scholars, we must try to ask ourselves a few questions. What makes a …

Results from each round of interviews were summarised and informed a nominal group research panel review process to modify items and develop a finalised version …
Receiving Isaac Again: Joy And Return To The Finite In Fear And Trembling, Jeffrey M. Matheson
Receiving Isaac Again: Joy And Return To The Finite In Fear And Trembling, Jeffrey M. Matheson
Theses and Dissertations
This thesis argues that joy is a constitutive but underexamined feature of faith in Søren Kierkegaard’s Fear and Trembling. While the text is often interpreted through sacrifice, silence, dread, paradox, and the teleological suspension of the ethical, these categories do not exhaust Johannes de Silentio’s account of Abraham. By foregrounding Abraham’s joy, this thesis shows that faith is not merely the willingness to surrender the finite, but the capacity to receive the finite again after it has been given up. Isaac is not only Abraham’s beloved son, but the child of promise, the visible form of God’s covenant, and the …
Measurement Invariance: A Tool To Weird-Icize Global Knowledge Production?, Klaus Boehnke
Measurement Invariance: A Tool To Weird-Icize Global Knowledge Production?, Klaus Boehnke
Online Readings in Psychology and Culture
The article examines measurement invariance in quantitative cross-cultural research. Instruments are typically translated, data are collected for the different language versions, and psychometric invariance is assessed. Items deemed equivalent are preserved, while the remaining items are traditionally eliminated. Culturally inclusive methodologies independently develop items across various cultures, translate them into a lingua franca, preserve translatable items, collect data, and corroborate invariance. Non-equivalent items are usually eliminated. A more radical strategy for preserving local (emic) elements is suggested here. Instrument developers across cultures concur on the measurability of a specific construct for which they independently create items, collect data without translation, …
Supporting The Wellbeing Of Multilingual Learners A Case Study On Secondary Teachers’ Use Of Transformative Social Emotional Learning Practices, Jaclyn Sparks
Electronic Theses and Dissertations 2020 - Present
This qualitative case study investigated how bilingual and monolingual English-speaking teachers support the wellbeing of Multilingual Learners (MLs) and which aspects of Transformative Social Emotional Learning (TSEL) these teachers perceive themselves incorporating with MLs. Data were collected through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews, and a focus group. Data analysis was conducted using open coding, axial coding, and constant comparative methods.
Findings indicate that teachers support MLs’ wellbeing by creating inclusive environments through intentionally planned lessons that center equitable opportunities for MLs to engage with the content. Furthermore, teachers perceive to utilize decolonizing practices to make the curriculum accessible for MLs. This …

Adaptation Of Moral Integrity Scale To Kazakh Language: A Psychometric Investigation, Madina Ishkibayeva, Nesrullah Okan, Zhazira Abdykhalykova, Nursulu Makhambetova
Higher Learning Research Communications
The present study has been designed to adapt the Moral Integrity Scale (MIS), originally developed by Schlenker (2008), into Kazakh and to examine its psychometric properties among undergraduate students. Moral integrity, a critical component of ethical behavior, is essential in tertiary education, yet few culturally validated tools exist in the Kazakh context. Following a rigorous scale adaptation process (including translation, back-translation, expert review, and pilot testing), the scale was administered to three independent student samples. The results of the exploratory factor analysis (n = 470) revealed a single-factor structure explaining 52.13% of the total variance. Confirmatory factor analysis ( …
Examining The Referral Pathway For Black Families Evaluated Through The Early Steps Program, Zelda Fleming
Examining The Referral Pathway For Black Families Evaluated Through The Early Steps Program, Zelda Fleming
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Research indicates that for children with or at risk for developmental delays, early intervention services are associated with improvements in academic and cognitive skills by the time they reach kindergarten (Atkins et al., 2020; Litt et al., 2017). Untreated developmental delays are linked to early school failure and social and emotional problems (Sher et al., 2020). Black children are 5 times less likely to receive early intervention services when compared to their White peers (Barnard-Brak et al., 2021; Feinberg et al.,2011). Thus, they often do not have the opportunity to receive early intervention services. The literature in this area suggests …
A Unified Approach: Culturally Responsive Teaching And Afrocentricity In Music Education, James H. Lyle Jr.
A Unified Approach: Culturally Responsive Teaching And Afrocentricity In Music Education, James H. Lyle Jr.
Visions of Research in Music Education
I
In contemporary society, students from ethnically diverse backgrounds are frequently confronted with racial barriers and disenfranchisement even in music education. To provide these students with the best environment for learning, researchers suggest that it is imperative that educators ensure an all-inclusive and impartial education system for these learners. Students of the African diaspora and students of color frequently experience societal injustices and harm in the U.S. education system, thereby resulting in discrepancies in academic accomplishments. This literature review critically evaluates the methods, approaches, and pedagogical practices of music educators and theorists, aiming to specify how teacher training programs can …
Translating Cultural Symbols Into Sound: The Creation And Transformation Of The “Mantra Chord” In Zou Xiangping’S Images Of Yalong River For Alto Saxophone And Piano, Cehuai Zhang
Gamut: Online Journal of the Music Theory Society of the Mid-Atlantic
Abstract: Contemporary Chinese composers such as Zou Xiangping often engage Western compositional techniques to express Chinese cultural and spiritual imagery. In his instrumental solo work Images of Yalong River for Alto Saxophone and Piano, Zou effectively incorporates the Tibetan Buddhist six-syllable mantra “Om mani pedme hum” into a six-note sonority known as the “mantra chord.” Through transforming this chord, Zou aligns it with the descriptive and evocative program he created for the music. This article introduces the background of the creation of the “mantra chord,” examines its transformations, and explores how these adaptations engage with the composer’s program for …

Conventional vector-based retrieval augmented generation systems exhibit structural blindness when used for code migration, severing critical architectural relationships like class inheritance and leading to the generation of non-functional code with high API hallucination rates. A described approach models a codebase as an interconnected property graph where source code is parsed into abstract syntax trees (ASTs) and mapped to a graph of code entities (nodes) and their dependencies (edges). A topological sort of this graph creates a dependency-aware translation queue, ensuring parent classes are processed before child classes. This method, which can be combined with a semantic vector search fallback for …

The Layered Knowledge Profile, Harendra A. Alwis Mr.

The Open Knowledge Format (OKF) gives the world a portable, vendor-neutral envelope for knowledge — markdown files with YAML frontmatter, cross-linked into a graph — and, by deliberate design, declines to specify how the knowledge inside that envelope should be organised, requiring only a single type field and defining the interoperability surface rather than the content model. The Layered Knowledge Profile (LKP) supplies the content model that OKF leaves open. It encodes, as machine-readable structure expressed entirely within OKF's own conventions, the asymmetric ontological dependency among the four realms of reality described by Alwis (2026), so that a body of …
Unified Cognitive Architecture For Distributed Manifold Reasoning Systems, Donevin Frownfelter
Unified Cognitive Architecture For Distributed Manifold Reasoning Systems, Donevin Frownfelter
Defensive Publications Series
Donevin Frownfelter ([email protected])
This disclosure describes a unified cognitive architecture that integrates three complementary systems—VESPER, NEPHILIM, and the Unified Agent Reasoning Model (UARM)—into a single operational framework for distributed reasoning, semantic computation, and multi‑device intelligence. The architecture introduces a manifold‑based cognitive substrate, enabling agents to perform reasoning as transformations across a non‑Euclidean semantic space rather than through traditional symbolic or statistical pipelines.
The system employs a tensor‑manifold representation for knowledge, a Majorana‑parity logic layer for reversible inference, and a distributed execution mesh that allows heterogeneous devices to participate in a shared cognitive topology. VESPER provides the laminar reasoning core, NEPHILIM …
Leveraging Spatial Statistics For Domain Adaptation Of Vision Language Models In Medical Vqa, Himanshu Raj
Leveraging Spatial Statistics For Domain Adaptation Of Vision Language Models In Medical Vqa, Himanshu Raj
Master’s Dissertations
Recent advances in Vision–Language Models (VLMs) have demonstrated strong performance in Medical Visual Question Answering (Medical VQA) task. Although they perform very well within their domains, these models often experience issues with their generalization ability on unknown clinical distribution data because of different imaging technologies and patient groups used in various medical facilities. Generalization problems faced by these models make their practical application in the field of VLM-based medical VQA systems rather difficult. To overcome this limitation we proposed our method named Spatial Semantics Aware Domain Adaptation (SSADA), which is an integrated framework that combines both finetuning and prompt-based in-context …
