“Huir Sí Es Mejor Plan”: Rethinking The Subject In Digital Literature, Fernanda Mugica Jul 2026

“Huir Sí Es Mejor Plan”: Rethinking The Subject In Digital Literature, Fernanda Mugica

ELO (un)supervised 2026

As an extension of my research on contemporary appropriative practices that experiment with deviant uses of technology, this paper explores the question of subjectivity in digital literature. My aim is to examine how a set of contemporary works of electronic literature problematize the relationships between writing, technology, and subject formation. Within this framework, I propose a reading of Huir sí es mejor plan (2020), a work created in Twine by Argentine writer Valeria Mussio. To address the question of the subject in an algorithmic culture, it is essential to attend to the spatial modulations (Angeliki 2021) that traverse it: media …

(Un)Supervised Translation: How Fans Fill In The Gaps In Visual Novel Localization, Sara Raffel, Mónica G. González Burgos Jul 2026

(Un)Supervised Translation: How Fans Fill In The Gaps In Visual Novel Localization, Sara Raffel, Mónica G. González Burgos

ELO (un)supervised 2026

A translator must consider multiple cultural contexts when translating a work of electronic literature; no longer concerned only with the text, they might need to examine images, platform, interactivity, and the code itself. As identified by Przbyszewska, translating works of e-lit can require attention to the code and platform of a work, with the extent dictated by “the interaction inherent in the semantics of the text” (28). Meanwhile, Marecki and Montfort differentiate e-lit translation from its traditional literary counterpart because the translator is no longer “invisible” where e-lit is involved (90). This presentation extends this discussion of e-lit translation to …

Migritude In The Digital Space: An Analysis Of Migration Narratives In Twenty-First-Century Electronic Literature, Ruth Oluyemi Akande

ELO (un)supervised 2026

The study examines the concept of migritude in the field of digital literature, highlighting the importance of African and diasporic movements in the development of modern electronic narratives studies. Drawing upon digital humanities, postcolonial theory, and African literary studies, the study posits that electronic literature transcends mere representation of migration; it actively enacts migritude through its formal, procedural, and interactive design.

This research will  careful analyse the specific electronic literary works, demonstrates how nonlinear narratives, hypertextual fragmentation, and reader involvement reflect the inherent discontinuities of migratory experiences, while also highlighting African epistemologies, linguistic hybridity, and cultural memory. These digital narratives, …

Exploring Stress And Mindfulness In Central Asia: Perspectives Of English Language Students In Uzbekistan, Laurie A. Wolfe, Rakhmatullo Akhmedov

The Interactive Journal of Global Leadership and Learning

Stress is a growing concern among university students worldwide, yet little is known about how stress is conceptualized and experienced within Central Asia, particularly Uzbekistan. This study explores how Uzbek university students understand and experience stress, identifies the primary sources of stress in their daily lives, and examines their perceptions of mindfulness as a potential stress‑reduction strategy. Participants were 60 students, primarily Muslim women, at a large public university in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Open‑ended questions on a post‑intervention survey were analyzed using a combination of deductive and inductive coding. Students most frequently described stress in emotional terms, including irritability, sadness, and …

Re-Reading The World: Why Critical Literacy Must Accompany The “Back To Basics” Movement, Carl Bryan Jul 2026

Re-Reading The World: Why Critical Literacy Must Accompany The “Back To Basics” Movement, Carl Bryan

The Interactive Journal of Global Leadership and Learning

Recent literacy reforms in the United States have prioritized systematic phonics as part of the “science of reading,” backed by extensive evidence on the importance of phonemic awareness and decoding for early reading development. While these skills are essential, narrowing literacy to mechanics alone overlooks its broader cultural and civic purposes. Drawing on Freire’s (1970/2000) conception of literacy as both “reading the word and the world,” this paper argues for a balanced framework that integrates foundational instruction with comprehension, knowledge building, and critical literacy. Building on the work of Luke (2000) and Vasquez (2014), it positions literacy as both a …

This study aims to explore the impact of such tools on language learning outcomes in formal and informal settings, with a focus on mobile Apps, VR/AR, and gamification. A mixed-method approach was employed, interconnecting quantitative surveys with 150 participants and qualitative interviews. The former was used to assess tool usage, motivation, and proficiency, and the latter (qualitative data dealt …

Profiling Students’ Academic Language Readiness For English‑Medium Instruction In Saudi Higher Education, Hanan Sarhan Alsubaiai Jul 2026

Profiling Students’ Academic Language Readiness For English‑Medium Instruction In Saudi Higher Education, Hanan Sarhan Alsubaiai

UB Journal for Humanities

Saudi universities have been rolling out English‑Medium Instruction (EMI) at a fast pace. But no standardized and validated instrument currently exists to assess students’ readiness. The present study developed the Academic Language Readiness Test (ALRT), administered it to undergraduate students, and determined the score cut-offs distinguishing those who are Ready, Borderline, and those who are Not Ready. A crosssectional, multisite quantitative design was employed with 712 undergraduate students from seven colleges at Bisha University. The ALRT measured four subskills: academic listening, academic reading, academic vocabulary and grammar, and academic study skills (notetaking and visual data interpretation). Psychometric analysis combined Classical …

A Modest Proposal For Discourse Analysis In Nonbinary Communities: Method And Case Study, Nikoli Michael Daigneault Jul 2026

A Modest Proposal For Discourse Analysis In Nonbinary Communities: Method And Case Study, Nikoli Michael Daigneault

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

While linguists have long used discourse analysis to study language variation in binary and nonnormative gender groups, nonbinary people have often been excluded from analyses or treated without a nonbinary-informed framework. Nevertheless, nonbinary language use can provide key insights into the relationship between gender and language. In this thesis, I propose Nonbinary Discourse Analysis, a set of recommendations and best practices for conducting discourse analysis in nonbinary communities. These methods are informed by previous empirical research on nonnormative gender identities and theoretical work in trans linguistics (Zimman, 2020) and trans epistemologies (Nordmarken, 2019; Raclaw, in press). To demonstrate the methodology, …

The Role Of Rhyme In Children’S Word Learning, Tengwen Fan Jul 2026

The Role Of Rhyme In Children’S Word Learning, Tengwen Fan

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

Rhyme increases the phonological similarity of phrases individuals hear and enhances recall from working memory. The present study explores whether rhyme aids word learning in children and examines the underlying neural mechanisms through which rhyme facilitates word learning. Thirty-four children between 6 and 8 years old completed a word learning task where they were exposed to 15 nonwords (NWs), four times each, in the sentence-final position as their EEG was recorded. Participants were randomly assigned to either a Rhyme or No-Rhyme group, where the NWs rhymed or did not rhyme with a prime real word in the sentence, respectively, during …

Depro: Understanding The Role Of Llms In Debugging Competitive Programming Code, Nabiha Parvez, Md Tanvin Sarkar Pallab, Mia Mohammad Imran, Tarannum Shaila Zaman Jul 2026

Depro: Understanding The Role Of Llms In Debugging Competitive Programming Code, Nabiha Parvez, Md Tanvin Sarkar Pallab, Mia Mohammad Imran, Tarannum Shaila Zaman

Computer Science Faculty Research & Creative Works

Debugging consumes a substantial portion of the software development lifecycle, yet researchers do not yet understand well the effectiveness of Large Language Models (LLMs) in this task. Competitive programming offers a rich benchmark for such evaluation, given its diverse problem domains and strict efficiency requirements. We present an empirical study of LLM-based debugging on competitive programming problems and introduce DePro, a test-case-driven approach that assists programmers by correcting existing code rather than generating new solutions. DePro combines brute-force reference generation, stress testing, and iterative LLM-guided refinement to efficiently identify and resolve errors. Experiments on 13 faulty user submissions from Codeforces …

Explainable Machine Learning For Biomedical Diagnostics: Optical Imaging And Eeg Signal Analysis, Fozia Rajbdad

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

The growing convenience of complex biomedical data begins new roads for better disease detection and functional identification via artificial intelligence (AI). Nevertheless, conventional analysis methods often rely on basic metrics that drop sensitive biotic differences, and various AI systems are difficult to infer, limiting their clinical reliability and practical use. There is a growing need for explainable, physiologically relevant computational models that can extract key biomarkers from diverse biomedical data sources. This dissertation addresses this problem by obtaining explainable machine learning and deep learning procedures for studying biomedical signals and optical imaging data.

This dissertation is divided into two parts; …

The Implications Of Generative-Ai User Prompt Engineering Shaping The Absent Presence Of Latino Women Textual Rhetoric In Llms, Angely C. Suarez Dejesus Jul 2026

The Implications Of Generative-Ai User Prompt Engineering Shaping The Absent Presence Of Latino Women Textual Rhetoric In Llms, Angely C. Suarez Dejesus

ELO (un)supervised 2026

This article examines how large language models (LLMs) generate text that affects underrepresented groups, particularly Latino women, due to limited cultural, contextual, and abstraction training rooted in biases. The research draws on Brock’s (2018) CTDA theory, White et al.’s (2023) prompt engineering framework, Klein’s (2015) computational spatiality, and Anzaldua’s (1987) concepts of cultural, emotional, and gendered borderlands to analyze the outputs. Using narrative prompt experiments, Chat GPT 3.5, 5, Claude AI, Gemini, and Microsoft Co-Pilot produced changes in their textual outputs as evidence of further algorithmic designs. Nevertheless, continual biases embedded in the algorithms’ linguistic representation and misrepresentation through the …

Post-Digital Creativity In Underacknowledged Communities, Tegan Pyke, Hannah Ackermans, Zahra Rizvi Jul 2026

Post-Digital Creativity In Underacknowledged Communities, Tegan Pyke, Hannah Ackermans, Zahra Rizvi

ELO (un)supervised 2026

In a world marked by polarization and institutional censorship, what we pay attention to matters more than ever. We would almost forget that people, unsupervised, cannot help but be creative. Increasingly, this creativity takes the form of post-digital art and literature, often without awareness of “electronic literature” as a concept or the ELO as an institution. In this panel, we open up the conversation of researching post-digital creativity outside e-lit cultures to learn what role multimodality and participatory cultures (can) play inside e-lit cultures.

To encourage active participation in this online panel, we intend to split our session into two …

Ai To Ai Architecture: A Direct Latent-Space Tensor Routing Protocol & Immutable Neuromorphic Asic Architecture For Self-Regulating Milti-Agent Compute Networks, Christopher L. Eckes Jul 2026

Ai To Ai Architecture: A Direct Latent-Space Tensor Routing Protocol & Immutable Neuromorphic Asic Architecture For Self-Regulating Milti-Agent Compute Networks, Christopher L. Eckes

Defensive Publications Series

Contemporary distributed Artificial Intelligence (AI) networks face critical limits in throughput, energy efficiency, and security due to their reliance on serialized -token interfaces (e.g., natural language, JSON, XML) for multi-agent cross-talk.

These traditional software-defined models introduce significant tokenization processing latency, suffer from compounding autoregressive gradient drift that causes runaway hallucination spirals over time, and present extensive vulnerability surfaces to adversarial prompt injections and gradient poisoning exploits.

This paper introduces a production-ready system architecture for a non-linguistic, machine-to-machine data routing engine and embedded cybersecurity shield, hardwired directly onto custom Neuromorphic Application-Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs).

The Bounded Cognitive Accelerator (BCA) protocol bypasses …

Health Disparities, Early Intervention, And Neurodevelopmental Outcomes In Preterm Infants, Samantha Dora Pescatore Jul 2026

Health Disparities, Early Intervention, And Neurodevelopmental Outcomes In Preterm Infants, Samantha Dora Pescatore

ETD Collection

Preterm infants are at a higher risk for a variety of health complications due to their underdeveloped organ systems and neurological systems. While the survival of preterm infants has greatly improved due to the advances of modern medicine, these infants are at increased risk for neurodevelopmental delays when compared to full term infants due to risk factors that accompany preterm birth, such as low birth weight, brain immaturity, nutritional challenges, and more (Behrman & Butler., 2007; Chung et al., 2020; Rubens et al., 2014; Song, I. G., 2022;). Research suggests that early intervention services can influence the development, health, education, …

Climate Anxiety And Nurses’ Awareness, Motivation, And Behaviors In Addressing Climate-Related Health Risks, Sarah Kaplan Jul 2026

Climate Anxiety And Nurses’ Awareness, Motivation, And Behaviors In Addressing Climate-Related Health Risks, Sarah Kaplan

Theses and Dissertations

Background: Climate anxiety, the emotional distress associated with awareness of climate change and its consequences, is an emerging mental health concern that may influence how nurses perceive and respond to climate-related health risks. Climate change is largely driven by emissions of greenhouse gases which radiate and absorb heat. Human-caused climate change is leading to higher average global temperatures and increasing risk to health through poor air quality, changes in vector borne diseases, extreme weather events, and exacerbation and development of physical and mental illnesses. This study contributes to nursing science by examining climate anxiety and climate related health practices among …

Stacking The Deck: Ai, Jury Selection, And The New Batson Problem, Alexandria Serra Jul 2026

Stacking The Deck: Ai, Jury Selection, And The New Batson Problem, Alexandria Serra

Washington Journal of Law, Technology & Arts

Generative artificial intelligence has infiltrated jury selection right under our noses. What began as a passive data mining experiment has evolved into AI-powered jury selection tools that profile potential jurors by scoring, ranking, and recommending which citizens to exclude from jury service. Although these tools promise objectivity, they risk encoding the same racial and gender biases that Batson v. Kentucky sought to eliminate. Courtroom AI is here to stay. But when lawyers delegate peremptory strikes to statistical models trained on biased data, Batson becomes obsolete. No court can detect algorithmic bias that lacks discernible intent. No judge can analyze whether …

Out Of This World: An Exoplanetary Workshop, Monica Storss, Bart Kuipers Jul 2026

Out Of This World: An Exoplanetary Workshop, Monica Storss, Bart Kuipers

ELO (un)supervised 2026

The workshop investigates how scientific constraints can productively defamiliarize human experience and create new frameworks for creativity and expression. Participants will produce original work while considering broader questions about environment, perception, and cultural formation in speculative contexts, and how the arts, sciences, and technology inform each other in relational multiplicities. This generative workshop explores how astronomical data from confirmed exoplanets can generate new poetic forms and linguistic constraints. Participants will examine how exoplanetary conditions can shape language, metaphor, and narrative structure. We'll develop from writing exercises that respond to non-terrestrial physical parameters: alternative light spectra, gravitational variations, and atmospheric compositions. …

Singulars: Performing The Reverse Turing Test, Halim Madi Jul 2026

Singulars: Performing The Reverse Turing Test, Halim Madi

ELO (un)supervised 2026

Singulars is an ongoing series of performance systems in which I co-create poetry with a language model trained on an anthology of English poetry alongside my own writing. Across three works—carnation.exe, versus.exe, and reinforcement.exe—I stage live reinforcement loops in which my poems and the model’s responses compete for audience votes. The audience functions as an embodied feedback mechanism, shaping the evolution of both the machine and the human poet in real time.

This paper examines what happens when a poet becomes both author and training data. Drawing from creativity research, metacognition, and social cognition, I reflect …

Making The Writer’S Project, Alex Calderwood Jul 2026

Making The Writer’S Project, Alex Calderwood

ELO (un)supervised 2026

The Writer’s Project is a series of playful text editors which intervene in the act of writing in unexpected, challenging, and unusual ways. Some of the editors are conceptual experiments in user interface design: What if the editor asked you if you were sure before committing to each word? What if the delete key was not functional? Others editors are provocations that take aim at the conditions and AI-mediated writing, built to create a tension between writerly agency and system resistance. These involve placing writers into different configurations with text streams, for instance by turning prior writings into a Tetris-like …

A New Approach To Understanding Cef Enlistment Statistics, Curt Mainville

Canadian Military History

The ability to measure rates of Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF) enlistment as a percentage of the eligible Canadian male population has proven both politically sensitive and historically relevant: on the one hand, contemporary politicians have used this data to blame certain provinces for not carrying their weight in the prosecution of war; on the other, historians have continuously refined these measurements in order to gain a better understanding of who enlisted for military service and why. Unfortunately, the latter has proven to be a rather imperfect exercise. This case study, using the New Brunswick census for 1911 as the reference …

More Than Just A Celebration: Gift Exchange In U.S. Culture, Macie Hazelton Jul 2026

More Than Just A Celebration: Gift Exchange In U.S. Culture, Macie Hazelton

Scholarly Horizons: University of Minnesota, Morris Undergraduate Journal

My graduation party may seem like a simple celebration to some, but when viewed through an anthropological lens, it becomes a rich example of how gift exchange continues to shape relationships in U.S. culture. Drawing on Marcel Mauss’s theory of the obligations to give, receive, and return, as well as insights from Godbout, Benson, and Carter, I argue that cards, money, food, and even the thank-you notes exchanged at my party reveal a cultural system of reciprocity that strengthens social bonds during a major life transition. By examining how my community participated in this cycle of bringing gifts, supporting me, …
