At The Crossroads: Ryan Coogler’S Metaphysical Meditation On Blues Music’S Power Of Salvation And The Terror Of Racial Predation In “Sinners”, Terri Bowles Nov 2025

At The Crossroads: Ryan Coogler’S Metaphysical Meditation On Blues Music’S Power Of Salvation And The Terror Of Racial Predation In “Sinners”, Terri Bowles

Markets, Globalization & Development Review

In Sinners (2025), written and directed by Ryan Coogler, intercultural histories of music, religion and oral tradition inform a modern and complex horror tale confronting the terror of Jim Crow in the post–World War I Mississippi Delta. The film, starring frequent Coogler collaborator and muse Michael B. Jordan as twin war veterans out to reestablish their lives as juke joint owners, coalesces themes of economic repression, racial voyeurism, and secular and religious entanglements with cinematic horror allegories of objectification, consumption and possession. This review explores the film’s tense and violent examination of these themes and the lived and imagined spaces …

From Prompt To Prejudice: Visual Evidence From Ai Image Generation Platforms, Jinu K. Varghese, Padma Rani Nov 2025

From Prompt To Prejudice: Visual Evidence From Ai Image Generation Platforms, Jinu K. Varghese, Padma Rani

Markets, Globalization & Development Review

This study examines how AI image generation systems perpetuate digital orientalism through systematic cultural representation patterns that increasingly shape global digital markets and international development discourse. Using visual social semiotics methodology, we conducted comparative analysis of Midjourney and ChatGPT platforms across nine culturally specific prompts examining religious imagery, contemporary social dynamics, and power structures in Indian cultural contexts. Our findings reveal that both platforms consistently reproduce colonial-era representational frameworks despite culturally sensitive prompting and advanced technical capabilities. The analysis identifies three systematic patterns: temporal displacement strategies that acknowledge modernity while containing it within orientalist categories, institutional validation requirements that privilege …

Aging And The Screen: Toxic Commodification Of The Female Body In The Substance (2024), Damlasu Uyug Sengun, Tuncer Mert Aydın, Zeynep Ozdamar Ertekin Nov 2025

Aging And The Screen: Toxic Commodification Of The Female Body In The Substance (2024), Damlasu Uyug Sengun, Tuncer Mert Aydın, Zeynep Ozdamar Ertekin

Markets, Globalization & Development Review

Representations of the aging female body have increased in media, but their presence is still shaped by social norms and market-driven ideals. On the contrary, The Substance (2024), an absurd, postmodern body horror, provides us a provocative critique of contemporary society’s obsession with youth and beauty and the way our culture defines and commodifies aging, especially in relation to women’s bodies and identities. Our review of The Substance incorporates consumer culture theory with Julia Kristeva’s concept of the abject (1982), Laura Mulvey’s theory of the male gaze (1975), and Barbara Creed’s notion of the monstrous-feminine, (1993) to explore the toxic …

Seismic Responsive Buildings: Comparison Between Egyptian Code 2012 With Different International Codes For Seismic Structural Irregularities At Architectural Design, Aya Abd El Ghaffar Mohamed, Mohamed Anwar Mohamed Fikry, Mai Mohamed Abdo Nov 2025

Seismic Responsive Buildings: Comparison Between Egyptian Code 2012 With Different International Codes For Seismic Structural Irregularities At Architectural Design, Aya Abd El Ghaffar Mohamed, Mohamed Anwar Mohamed Fikry, Mai Mohamed Abdo

Mansoura Engineering Journal

Seismic codes are laws and regulations that establish the basic requirements for building structures that can withstand seismic activity. Each country has different restrictions under different subheadings, depending on the seismic history of the region and the economic situation of the country. "Structural irregularity" is the most significant aspect of earthquake codes contributing to architectural design. A regular design of a structure leads to more rational behavior during earthquakes, enhancing resistance to dynamic loads and economic performance in comparison to irregular buildings. Architects must understand how earthquakes impact structures, as the structural system shapes the building's form and aesthetics, and …

How Can Smart Resilience Cities Provide Sdgs? An Integrative Framework Regarding Climate Change Mitigation, Asmaa M. Hassan, Manar A. Kotb

Mansoura Engineering Journal

Urbanization and climate change influence public health and wellbeing, which presents challenges facing architects and urban planners towards providing sustainable and resilient cities. In this context, smart city concept has been adopted to contribute to mitigating such influence. This study aims to conduct a bibliometric analysis within the previous scope. Then an integrative framework for climate change mitigation towards resilient smart cities based on SDGs is accomplished. The results indicate that further efforts are needed to develop “smart tools”, “urban economy”, and “carbon footprint. In addition, the proposed framework provides a significant paradigm shift towards mitigation of climate change impacts, …

Dislodged Denture In A Patient On High-Flow Nasal Cannula: A Rare Mechanical Complication, Ranjana Chimauriya, George John Pyrgos Nov 2025

Dislodged Denture In A Patient On High-Flow Nasal Cannula: A Rare Mechanical Complication, Ranjana Chimauriya, George John Pyrgos

Journal of Community Hospital Internal Medicine Perspectives

A man in his 70s presented with dyspnea and a seizure, requiring intubation for suspected status epilepticus. Following extubation and treatment for a COPD exacerbation, persistent hypoxemia led to high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) therapy. However, his condition worsened with increased work of breathing and inability to speak. Chest radiography revealed a dislodged denture in the upper airway. Emergency reintubation and removal of the denture led to rapid clinical improvement, and he was extubated the next day. While denture dislodgement has been reported with bag-mask ventilation and BiPAP, this is the first case associated with HFNC. This case underscores the need …

Gastric Adenocarcinoma With Enteroblastic Differentiation Presenting As Lung Nodules: A Diagnostic Dilemma, Jain Evani, Yadav Devvrat, Sainatham Chiranjeevi, Kc Manisha, Jain Anirudh, Jindal Vishal

Journal of Community Hospital Internal Medicine Perspectives

Background: Gastric Adenocarcinoma with enteroblastic differentiation (GAED) is a rare subtype of AFP-producing gastric cancers characterized by a tubulo-papillary pattern resembling fetal gastrointestinal epithelium. It expresses at least one of the following enteroblastic markers (EMs): glypican-3 (GPC3), spalt-like transcription factor 4 (SALL4), and α-fetoprotein (AFP). Case Report: A 78-year-old man with a history of chronic dry cough was found to have multiple fluorodeoxyglucose avid lung nodules with CDX-2 positivity on immunohistochemistry (IHC). Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) and Caris GPSai were inconclusive. Endoscopy revealed a fungating mass at the gastroesophageal junction. Histology revealed well-differentiated adenocarcinoma with mucinous features. IHC was positive …

Journal of Community Hospital Internal Medicine Perspectives

Bullous Myringitis (BM) is an acute painful infection in which vesicles or bullae form on the tympanic membrane. It is rare in adults and could be present with acute otitis media (AOM) if the middle ear is involved. This case report details a 55-year-old male with a history of recurrent childhood ear infections, chronic military noise exposure, smoking, and Crohn’s disease presenting with severe right ear pain, hearing loss, and fever. Examination revealed signs of AOM with perforations in the tympanic membrane and purulent drainage. Initial management included antibiotics and analgesics, but symptoms progressed, requiring further investigation. Imaging showed complete …
