Conceptualizing A Virtual African American Heritage Trail In Georgetown, South Carolina: A Marketing And Destination Staging Framework, Jerome Christia, Jacqueline Calhoun, Elisabeth Dellegrazie
The Coastal Business Journal
This article proposes a destination-planning framework for conceptualizing a Virtual African American Heritage Trail in Georgetown County, South Carolina. Located within the coastal region of South Carolina and between the major tourism markets of Charleston and Myrtle Beach, Georgetown contains a historically rich but spatially dispersed landscape of African American heritage sites that remain underrepresented in regional tourism promotion.
To address this gap, the study integrates the AIDA hierarchy of effects with Butler’s Tourism Area Life Cycle (TALC) to explain how virtual interpretation can support early-stage destination development. AIDA is used to illustrate how digital engagement can move audiences from …

Current Expected Credit Losses (Cecl): The Impact Of Accounting Standards Codification 326 On Lending Institutions, Douglas K. Schneider, Mark Mccarthy
The Coastal Business Journal
The manuscript describes the financial reporting impact on lenders of a new accounting rule, referred to as CECL, for current expected credit losses. Starting in 2020 all lending institutions that issue GAAP financial statements are required to apply the new CECL accounting method for recognizing credit losses. This new method is a departure from the former “incurred loss” accounting method that used information from past events and current conditions to estimate loan losses. The new method, CECL, recognizes loan losses that are expected to occur in the future. The annual results presented in the manuscript from 2018 through 2022, and …

Ultras: Rethinking Tax Policy For Digital Assets, Lauren Liedel
Ultras: Rethinking Tax Policy For Digital Assets, Lauren Liedel
The Journal of Business, Entrepreneurship & the Law
This comment examines the challenges current federal tax policy faces in addressing the rapidly expanding and volatile digital asset market. The author argues that the Internal Revenue Service’s (IRS) current "piecemeal" approach to defining taxable events—such as mining and staking—creates significant uncertainty for taxpayers and leads to strategic litigation. To resolve these issues, the article proposes the adoption of Unliquidated Tax Reserve Accounts (ULTRAs) as an alternative reporting framework. By utilizing blockchain's inherent capability to track notional interests, ULTRAs allow the IRS to account for economic activity while offering taxpayers the flexibility to defer actual payment until the assets are …

Guarding The Game: Building A Defensive Line Between Athletes' Biometric Data And Gambling Interests, Caroline Hébert
The Journal of Business, Entrepreneurship & the Law
This comment examines the intersection of wearable technology, professional sports, and the burgeoning sports betting industry. Focusing primarily on the National Football League (NFL), the author explores how biometric markers such as heart rate, stress levels, and fatigue—originally intended for player health and performance—are increasingly targeted for commercialization in the gambling market. The comment provides a critical analysis of the current legal landscape, noting that existing frameworks like HIPAA and GINA, as well as current Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs), offer insufficient protections for athletes' sensitive personal data. Hébert identifies key points of exploitation by third-party vendors and highlights the conflicting …

The suid genus Hippopotamodon with its type species H. sivalense, is well known from Upper Miocene deposits in Eurasia. Its taxonomic history has been characterized by considerable instability, including early misassignments to genera such as Sus and Potamochoerus, and subsequent reclassifications involving Propotamochoerus, Dicoryphochoerus, and Microstonyx. This confusion primarily resulted from an overreliance on variable dental and canine morphology. Subsequent systematic revisions attempted to resolve these issues by proposing synonymies among these taxa, although debate has continued regarding the relationship between Hippopotamodon and Microstonyx. Recent work supports the synonymy of these taxa based on shared diagnostic features across Eurasian material. …

Bifurcation lesions are among the most challenging in percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), with outcomes affected by anatomy, side-branch disease, and procedural variability. Existing European definitions and strategies require adaptation for Middle Eastern populations, where diabetes, obesity, and hypertension are highly prevalent and present earlier. The Middle East Bifurcation Club (MEBC), with the National Heart Center, used the Nominal Group Technique to standardize bifurcation PCI terminology, techniques, and treatment pathways tailored to regional demographics. The consensus provides evidence-based recommendations on imaging, provisional and 2-stent strategies, POT, and left main versus non-left main bifurcations, alongside practical algorithms and heart team guidance, highlighting …

Objectives: To assess the psychometric validity of the Arabic adaptation of the nasal obstruction symptom evaluation–perforation (NOSE-Perf) scale. To assess how reliable and valid the Arabic adaptation of the NOSE-Perf questionnaire is. Patients with septal perforations, particularly Arabic speakers, lack validated self-assessment tools for subjective symptom evaluation. Methods: Conducted between May 2024 and June 2025, the study included 100 participants—20 patients with septal perforation and 80 controls. Participants filled out a questionnaire consisting of demographic data as well as the Arabic forms of the Sino-Nasal Outcome Test-22 (SNOT-22), NOSE, and NOSE-Perf scales. Cronbach's alpha was applied to determine internal consistency, …

The human gut contains bacteria, viruses, and archaea that influence health depending on age, diet, and location. An individual harbours about 150 bacterial species. An imbalance of these microorganisms, known as dysbiosis, can negatively impact health. Commensal bacteria maintain microbial homeostasis by building short chain fatty acids. The 2-way communication channel that connects the gut and the brain is referred to as the gut-brain axis. Dysbiosis of the gut leads to some autoimmune diseases. A decline of beneficial bacteria causes the progression of rheumatoid arthritis. Gut dysbiosis increases intestinal permeability, allowing toxins and cytokines to enter the bloodstream and damage …
