أثر السياق القرآني على المعاني من خلال تفسير أبي حيان The Effect Of The Qur’Anic Context On Meanings Through The Interpretation Of Abihayyan, Asim Mohammad Qatawneh, Abdullah Ahmad Azzyout

Jordan Journal of Islamic Studies

This research deals with the important topic of the sciences of the Quran, and it is the influence of the Quranic context on the meaning, via Abi Hayyan's exegesis.

I collected the bases of this topic so that to avoid confusion, especially as this is both a theoretical and practical study.

I exhibited Abi Hayyan's regard of what the context indicates of the meanings, both clearly and by allusion. It became clear that he - may Allah have mercy on him - closely examines the sequence of the verses, notices the closest meaning, then deems it more accurate.

The results …

Review Of The Practice Of Islam In America: An Introduction, Aisha Ghani Aug 2019

Review Of The Practice Of Islam In America: An Introduction, Aisha Ghani

The Journal of Social Encounters

The demand, indeed urgency, within the American Academy for courses on Islam has perhaps never been greater than at current. Yet, the very conditions that create this urgency also produce anxieties for those fulfilling this pedagogical role. The challenge confronting many of us - knowing that our students will enter the classroom with ideas/questions about Islam stemming, in large part, from what they’ve encountered through popular media and the news – is how to carry out this work in a way that both acknowledges this abiding, even if delimiting, contemporary context without allowing our teaching to be subsumed by it. …

Before going into the practical and theological dilemmas of the churches, the article provides a short …

Foundations For Muslim-Christian Dialogue And Peacemaking: Ideas About God, Faith, And Prayer, Jon Armajani Aug 2019

Foundations For Muslim-Christian Dialogue And Peacemaking: Ideas About God, Faith, And Prayer, Jon Armajani

The Journal of Social Encounters

In this essay, I discuss God, faith, and sacred texts (including the Bible, Quran, and Hadith), and some ways that they constitute foundations for peacemaking between Christians and Muslims. The essay presents my personal, ethnic, and religious background in order to contextualize the ideas which the essay analyzes, and then describes three Christian theological approaches to non-Christian religions. Those approaches are particularist (or exclusivist), inclusivist, and pluralist. The essay discusses the historical background and significance of Vatican II, which took place between 1962 and 1965, and Nostra Aetate, published in 1965. The essay then analyzes three theological principles which undergird …

The dissertation focuses on the development of the Uniform Management of Institutional Fund Act and the Uniform Prudent Management of Institutional Fund Act. The Powers That Be: A Phenomenological Study Of College Students' Impressions Of The Bias In Religious Narratives In History Textbooks, Sarah Irene Herrero

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

The purpose of this phenomenological study was to describe the perception of bias of college students at a local college regarding the religious narratives in history textbooks. The theory that guided this study was reader response theory, as it identified the tendency of readers to bring their experiences and backgrounds to the literature they read. The study accomplished this by answering (a) how do college students who claim to perceive bias describe their experience of that perception of bias in religious narratives in history textbooks; (b) how do college students describe bias; (c) how do college students construct perceptions of …

The data highlight teachers’ varied co-teaching practices and point to aspects such as classroom management and translanguaging as aspects of classroom practice …

The Past As Present, Unlearned Lessons And The (Non-) Utility Of International Law, Susan M. Akram Jul 2019

The Past As Present, Unlearned Lessons And The (Non-) Utility Of International Law, Susan M. Akram

Faculty Scholarship

The contemporary moment provides an acute illustration of the dangers of historical amnesia—as if the Trump Administration’s policies of exclusion, extremist nationalism, and presidential imperialism were singular to ‘now,’ and entirely reversible in the next election. This Article argues to the contrary; that we have been down this road before, and the current crisis in immigration and refugee policies is the inevitable development of trends of racism, including anti-Arab, anti-Muslim racism and xenophobia, that have only become normalized by the populist resurgence of Trumpism. If this premise is correct—that we are experiencing a culmination of a historical trajectory—what lessons from …

At The Hands Of Fate: The Political Economy Of Islamic Insurance In Indonesia, Malaysia, And Pakistan, C. 1980 To The Present, Muhammad S. Rahman

Graduate Program in International Studies Theses & Dissertations

Why have Islamic insurance systems developed well in some countries, but not in others? Malaysia is considered as Islamic insurance elite due to its relatively large number of operators it houses as well as the sustained growth of Islamic insurance sales within the country, while Indonesia and Pakistan are still in early stages of development. Analyzing the political and social history of Islamization of insurance systems in these three Muslim majority countries in Asia since 1980s, this dissertation demonstrates the development gap between these countries on Islamic insurance results from; firstly, complex bargains made between various groups within each country …

Dinamika Penerapan Ijtihad Bidang Hukum Ekonomi Syariah Di Indonesia, Zaitun Abdullah, Endra Wijaya

Jurnal Hukum & Pembangunan

The development of Islamic economic conceptually and practically is so dynamic. In response to such condition, the presence of apt law becomes important to regulate or manage Islamic economic activities. Even though Al-Quran and Hadith already become main source and basic for all activities, but business actors still need several guidelines in doing Islamic economic activities. In this point, ijtihad could be such kind of instruments to help business actors run and involve in Islamic economic activities with its recent development. One of the forms of ijtihad is fatwa. In Indonesia, Indonesian Council of Ulama (Majelis Ulama Indonesia or MUI) …

Searching For The Green Man: Researching Pilgrimage In Israel/Palestine And Egypt, Mary Thurlkill Jun 2019

Searching For The Green Man: Researching Pilgrimage In Israel/Palestine And Egypt, Mary Thurlkill

International Journal of Religious Tourism and Pilgrimage

This article examines contemporary pilgrimage in Israel / Palestine and Egypt, based upon field work conducted December 2017-February 2018 and personal narrative. My argument is twofold: first, I contend that Pilgrimage Studies allows scholars to move beyond reductive labels and consider the implicit ‘messiness’ of religious faith and ritual praxis. I introduce the Islamic al-Khidr and Moses story from Qur’an 18.60-82, as an interpretative model, suggesting that rigid categorization—especially concerning religious identity and sectarian division—promotes a false narrative of monolithic faith traditions that, upon closer examination, does not fully exist. Second, by referencing my ethnographic experiences, I consider pilgrimage as …

The Noble Prophetic Traditions provide a very important knowledge of the history of nations, groups and religions, while emphasizing the lesson, the exhortation and the significance of the facts and events that they deal with. The Hadiths of the Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him, were narrated by the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) as a way of telling the story, the media and the news. It is a clear indication that all that is stated in it is true, so it is necessary to believe in it, because there is no room for …

Stereotype Threat And Stem Self-Perceptions Of Saudi College Women, Ali Hadi Omair Jun 2019

Stereotype Threat And Stem Self-Perceptions Of Saudi College Women, Ali Hadi Omair

College of Science and Health Theses and Dissertations

Research shows that women’s educational progress in scientific (STEM) fields is limited by negative stereotypes about their abilities in such fields. These negative stereotypes may be internalized by women and adversely affect their academic self-concept and progress in STEM fields. In the case of women in higher education who study in STEM fields, their knowledge that they are stereotyped as having less ability than men in those fields may result in a stereotype threat that reduces their performance in cognitive tests and reduces their academic self-perception in regard to STEM domains.

Most research on the negative female stereotype and stereotype …
