University Of Richmond Bulletin: The T.C. Williams School Of Law Catalogue Number For 1955, University Of Richmond

Law School Catalogues

General Statement:

The Law School was established as a part of Richmond College in 1870. In 1890 the family of the late Mr. T. C. Williams, who had been a devoted and useful trustee, donated $25,000 as the nucleus of an endowment for the Law School. In recognition of this gift, the name of the School was changed to THE T. C. WILLIAMS SCHOOL OF LAW. At various times the School has received further generous gifts from members of the family of Mr. Williams. A substantial gift came through a bequest from Mr. T. C. Williams, Jr. who, like his …

Latter-Day Saint Servicemen In The Philippine Islands: A Historical Study Of Their Religious Activities And Influences Resulting In The Official Organization Of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints In The Philippines, Lowell Eliason Call

Theses and Dissertations

Though generally unheard of in the Western world and the United States prior to the Spanish-American War of 1898, the Filipino people have made some remarkable contributions to world leadership and world history. Frequently they have been considered a pagan and an ignorant people, although in objectively observing them one finds such a belief unfounded and even the reverse of that to be true. Progress which the republic has made during the last fifty years, since being liberated to develop liberties in religion, politics, and education, is phenomenal, even when compared with the United States period of evolution to her …

The History Of Track And Field In South Dakota High Schools, Donald Hayes Allan

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Track and field meets have been held for high-school athletes in South Dakota since 1903, when Yankton College first sponsored a meet on May 8th at College Park in Yankton. The sport has grown steadily, and in 1955 the South Dakota High School Athletic Association sanctioned thirty-three conference meets, twenty independently sponsored meets, eight regional meets, three cross country meets, twelve dual-triangular-quad-rangular type meets, three junior-high meets, and one state meet. In addition to this, South Dakota high-school athletes participated in nine out-of-state meets. The author has been unable to find any extensively collected historical data or any assemblage …

Mormon-Indian Relations As Viewed Through The Walker War, H. Bartley Heiner Jan 1955

Mormon-Indian Relations As Viewed Through The Walker War, H. Bartley Heiner

Theses and Dissertations

Early Utah history involved many adjustments of differences between the pioneers and the Indians. This thesis is a study of the differences and of the policies adopted to alleviate them, particularly in the background, setting, and events of the Walker War.

The Mormons came into a territory inhabited by the aggressive Ute Indians. However, the niggardness of nature and the white man's oppression had reduced them to a condition of destitution. They had descended to trading, begging, and stealing. Possibly, with the idea of exploiting the Mormons, the Indians invited them to settle in various sections of the territory. The …

Dr. Friesner, Botanist-Teacher, J. Johanna Jones

Butler University Botanical Studies

With the passing of Dr. Ray C. Friesner, Indiana has lost one of her most active field botanists and teachers. For more than thirty years, Dr. Friesner hiked the woods and fields of Indiana, collecting and identifying plants to swell the records of Indiana flora. As a teacher and scientist, he inspired many students with his example of industry, study, and vision.

Temperature Inversions In The Pinyon-Juniper Zone Of A Nevada Mountain Range, W. D. Billings Nov 1954

Temperature Inversions In The Pinyon-Juniper Zone Of A Nevada Mountain Range, W. D. Billings

Butler University Botanical Studies

Prominent on the sides of the Great Basin mountain ranges of Nevada is an open woodland zone of small conifers in which the dominants are pinyon (Pinus monophylla T. and F.) and juniper (Juniperus osteosperma (Torr.) Little). It is apparent even to the casual observer that this dark green zone is almost entirely restricted to the slopes; the grayish sagebrush valley bottoms are treeless except for willows and cottonwoods along the drainages. Also treeless are most of the ridges and peaks which rise above the two or three thousand vertical feet covered by the woodland. Within the dwarf …

Dean Ray C. Friesner (A Tribute) Nov 1954

Dean Ray C. Friesner (A Tribute)

Butler University Botanical Studies

The moral and intellectual greatness of a University depends primarily upon the qualities of heart and mind which animate the men who make and direct its policies and teach its students. That man is touched by sublimity whose life is marked at once by love of God, Man, and of Nature, and who renders to each a just tribute. Such a one was Ray C. Friesner, of late our Dean and Colleague in this Faculty.

Alpine Timberlines In The Americas And Their Interpretation, R. Daubenmire Nov 1954

Alpine Timberlines In The Americas And Their Interpretation, R. Daubenmire

Butler University Botanical Studies

The literature of plant geography has long contained references to the facts that (1) in progressing from the poles toward the equator, alpine timberline increases in elevation above sea level, and that (2) the elevation of this timberline exhibits considerable variation at any one latitude on different mountain systems. More recently a third fact concerning the geography of this vegetation boundary has been documented; the latitude-altitude relationship is not rectilinear.
