An Historical Study Of The Adoption Of The Fifth-Year Requirement For High School Certification In California, Calvin Richard Boyes
An Historical Study Of The Adoption Of The Fifth-Year Requirement For High School Certification In California, Calvin Richard Boyes
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
This is an historical study depicting how California came to adopt the requirement of a fifth year of preparation for secondary teachers. It is hoped that through a better understanding of such a milestone event those interested in teacher education will be able to view current educational problems with greater insight. This insight should include the knowledge that California's fifth-year requirement, though being the first in the United States, was just one of the steps in the development of better certification in this State and the nation. Through remembering how this one significant event_ the adoption of the fifth-year requirement, …

A Study To Determine What Caused Students To Discontinue Attending The Burley Seminary Before Obtaining A Fourth-Year Certificate 1961-1965, Charles Durrell Salisbury
A Study To Determine What Caused Students To Discontinue Attending The Burley Seminary Before Obtaining A Fourth-Year Certificate 1961-1965, Charles Durrell Salisbury
Theses and Dissertations
It was the writer's purpose to determine the reason students discontinued seminary before obtaining a fourth-year certificate from the Burley L. D. S. Seminary between the years 1961-1965. In addition to this, means of helping to solve the problems of the students who discontinued seminary were sought. Questionnaires were sent to 92 students who had discontinued seminary; a questionnaire was also given to 61 students who were still in seminary. The results of these questionnaires were tabulated by the Brigham Young University Data Processing Service. Of the 92 students who discontinued seminary and received questionnaires, 66 (70 per cent) were …

Labor Unions In Nonferrous-Metals Mining_October 1964, Lucien A. File
BBER Publications
This historical study traces the development of labor unions in New Mexico’s nonferrous-metals mining industry, detailing early organizing challenges, major strikes, safety issues, and the evolving role of unions such as the Western Federation of Miners and the Mine Mill and Smelter Workers. It highlights the social, economic, and political forces that shaped union activity from the late 19th century through the mid‑20th century.

Church, Ministry And Mission Fields, Maynard Dorow
Concordia Theological Monthly
The ministry is currently the focus of considerable attention on nearly all Christian fronts. On the American scene this attention has been occasioned in part by the general shortage of clergy. More than this, however, questions are being raised concerning the role of the pastor and the relevance of the ministry as presently conceived for our industrial and urban society.

Second Bibliography And Index For The Philosophy Of Geology, Claude C. Albritton Jr.
Second Bibliography And Index For The Philosophy Of Geology, Claude C. Albritton Jr.
Journal of the Graduate Research Center
The body of writings on the philosophy and history of geology has grown in a remarkable way since the end of the Second World War. There is no obvious explanation for this quickening of interest in what are surely the most academic aspects of a science best known for its practical applications. Influences arising both from within and from outside the geological profession have probably been responsible. It is a matter of record that many departments of geology, upon resuming full-time operations after the war, decided not to go on moving in the old curricular ruts. The new courses, even …
Trends In Promotion And Advertising Techniques Of Household Electrical Appliances By The Electric Utility Industry, Morris H. Toppila
Trends In Promotion And Advertising Techniques Of Household Electrical Appliances By The Electric Utility Industry, Morris H. Toppila
Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of the study was to trace the development of national co-operative appliance advertising and promotional activities of the electric utility industry from 1882 to 1963. The principle source of information was the electrical trade magazines.
The advertising program of the electric utility industry has changed from emphasis on direct selling to coordination of national co-operative appliance campaigns. Advertising co-operation between retailers, manufacturers and the electric utility industry has been in existence since 1933.
The "Live Better Electrically" campaign is the most recent and successful of any co-operative promotional and advertising program. The Edison Electric Institute, representing the electric …
Ailred Of Riveaulx The Consistency Of His Life And Writings With His Thought And His Profession As Cistercian Monk, Tyrrell Hughes
Ailred Of Riveaulx The Consistency Of His Life And Writings With His Thought And His Profession As Cistercian Monk, Tyrrell Hughes
Masters Theses
First paragraph:
The author confesses to a profound emotional involvement with AiIred of Rievaulx, Saint of the Church and man whose love was charity, the love that is like God's love. But this zealousness on his behalf was born after analysis of and reflection on Ailred's life and writings, comparing these judgments with the treatments he has received at the hands of various scholars, among them the fine names of David Knowles, F.M. Powicke, C. H. Talbot and Aelred Squire. The initial reaction induced by the comparison was indignation at the injustice done AiIred, but much more at the seeming …

Differential Selection In Juniper Populations From The Baum Limestone And Trinity Sand Of Southern Oklahoma, Marion T. Hall, Claudia J. Carr
Differential Selection In Juniper Populations From The Baum Limestone And Trinity Sand Of Southern Oklahoma, Marion T. Hall, Claudia J. Carr
Butler University Botanical Studies
Two markedly different geologic formations, the Baum limestone and Trinity sand and an area of intermixed talus were compared for several physical attributes and these correlated with the structure of the plant communities occupying them and with the variability of a conspicuous constituent for each of the three habitats. (1) Juniperus Ashei occupies the Baum Limestone in nearly pure stands, but with wide spacing, while the general cover consists of Bouteloua hirsula and Andropogon scoparius. The limestone has a high carbonate content, high hygroscopic coefficient, low soil moisture. (2) Juniperus virginiana occupies the Trinity sand on cleared, reverted land …
Development Of A Chemically Defined Medium For Biosynthesis Of Capreomycin By Streptomyces Capreolus, Laverne D. Boeck
Development Of A Chemically Defined Medium For Biosynthesis Of Capreomycin By Streptomyces Capreolus, Laverne D. Boeck
Butler University Botanical Studies
A complex organic medium had been developed for this organism, but a chemically defined medium was not available. A number of carbohydrates were tested and it was determined that pentoses, glucose, starch, and dextrine produced the best antibiotic yields. A combination of glucose and dextrine was chosen for routine use. Use of five amino acids: L-asparagine, glycine, L-alanine, L-leucine and L-histidine gave the highest antibiotic yields. High levels of leucine were tolerated by the organism and were in some instances very helpful to antibiotic yields, but no single amino acid was essential and various combinations could be used. It was …
A Survey Of The Ecology Of Tecoma Stans, John Pelton
A Survey Of The Ecology Of Tecoma Stans, John Pelton
Butler University Botanical Studies
Tecoma stans (L.) Juss. ex H.B.K., a shrub or small tree in the Bignoniaceae, is a widely distributed polymorphic complex of the Western Hemisphere tropics and subtropics, and is commonly planted as an ornamental throughout the tropical world. Winter temperature limits its poleward distribution. The species is characteristic of rocky slopes, often limestone outcrops, but also alluvial and other substrata as long as drainage is excellent. In arid regions it occurs in climax xerophytic shrub or thorn forest communities, while in humid areas it is common mainly in deforested and other disturbed sites since it behaves as a heliophyte. The …
