A Historical Analysis And Comparative Classification Of The Use Of Computers In The Typographic Industry, Harvey R. Levenson
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Although developments of the past several decades confirm a revolutionary expansion of graphic arts technology, the printing industry has traditionally been known for its lack of technological progress. It is frequently stated that printing techniques, until recently, were considered to be approximately 50 years behind other industries with regard to technological advancement. Such conditions were particularly true in the area of typesetting. To witness the unprogressive implements being used, all one had to do was visit a typica1 composing room entangled with the awkward mechanisms of conventional Linotypes, Intertypes, and other similar typesetting devices. Such composing systems are steadily becoming …

Samuel Brannan: Speculator In Mexican Lands, W. Ray Luce Iii
Samuel Brannan: Speculator In Mexican Lands, W. Ray Luce Iii
Theses and Dissertations
Samuel Brannan has almost become a legend in the history of the American West. Having led a group of Mormons around the Horn to California in 1846, he became a business and political leader in early California. He gained great wealth in speculation and merchandising, and is noted for his activities in the Vigilance Committee of 1851, his part in heralding the gold rush, and his developments in Calistoga and elsewhere.
Although much has been written about Brannan, very little of it deals with the last years of his life. Very little factual information has been available on his activities …
The Elections Of 1900 In Utah, R. Gary Penrod
The Elections Of 1900 In Utah, R. Gary Penrod
Theses and Dissertations
The 1900 elections have been little touched in historical studies of Utah. However 1900 was a year of special interest and deserves an examination. In that year a Special Election was held, all state offices were up for renewal and a Presidential Election took place.
The special election was necessary because B. H. Roberts had been denied his seat in the United States Congress. Roberts was excluded because he was a polygamist. The Roberts case threatened to revive gentile versus Mormon antipathies in Utah. However, the most puzzling aspect of the 1900 elections is connected with the presidential vote. In …

An Historical Study Of Adult Education Programs Of The Brigham Young University From 1921 To 1966, Keith Lowell Smith
Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of the study is to record the history of Adult Education programs of the Brigham Young University. Such a history has not been written although two master's theses and one doctor's thesis have treated some phases of the study. George S. Haslam, Chairman of the B.Y.U. Ogden Center for Continuing Education, explored in his master's thesis the History of the Policy Making Groups of the Brigham Young University particularly as they have reference to adult education. A thesis on the establishment of the Audio Visual Department of B.Y.U. was completed in 1959 by Paul S. Smith and Dr. …

The Posting Of Luther’S Theses - Legend Or Fact?, Franz Lau
The Posting Of Luther’S Theses - Legend Or Fact?, Franz Lau
Concordia Theological Monthly
Less than 10 years ago a discussion began over the posting of Luther's Ninety-five Theses, some doubting that it actually took place on the traditional day of October 31, 1517, some going so far as to contend that the posting never happened and is only a legend. Ten years ago, in the summer of 1957 at the Lutheran World Federation Meeting in Minneapolis, I was one of those who saw a young Sunday school teacher, impersonating Luther, on a float in a parade vigorously nail a copy of the Ninety-five Theses on a stage door depicting the one of Wittenberg. …
