The History And Development Of Religious Education In Ontario Schools, John Douglas Schweyer Jul 1973

The History And Development Of Religious Education In Ontario Schools, John Douglas Schweyer

Master of Sacred Theology Thesis

The present thesis is concerned with the history and development of religious education in Ontario schools, but it attempts to interpret the Ontario system for a readership which primarily knows the system and lives within the cultural and national context of the United States. A glossary is therefore included to explain certain terms which may be unfamiliar to the reader. A comparison of similarities and differences between the Ontario program for religious education and that prevalent in other jurisdictions is provided throughout the discussion. Chapter I presents an overview of the historical situation in Ontario concerning religious education and outlines …

A History Of The Research Of Exodus 18:1-12 With A Critical Evaluation And Suggestions For Further Progress, Andrew Chiu May 1973

A History Of The Research Of Exodus 18:1-12 With A Critical Evaluation And Suggestions For Further Progress, Andrew Chiu

Doctor of Theology Dissertation

In order to capture an over-all view of the research of Ex. 18:1-12, the study will proceed from a historical perspective, stating and critically evaluating in chronological order the theses of major scholars both for and against the Kenite hypothesis. Then the research will turn to a new dimension of the study of this pericope. Finally, the dissertation will present a critical scrutiny of the text itself. By way of textual criticism, literary criticism, form criticism, tradition criticism, redaction criticism, and historical analysis of the text, the study will make an attempt to search out what the text meant in …

Japanese Creation Myths, Leslie L. Rodieck May 1973

Japanese Creation Myths, Leslie L. Rodieck

Student Scholarship

This document, authored by Leslie L. Rodicek in 1973, explores the foundational role of Japanese creation myths in shaping the unique personality, worldview, and institutional structures of the Japanese people. By examining the primary eighth-century sources, the Kojiki and the Nihon Shoki, the author illustrates how these narratives serve as more than mere entertainment; they function as a charter for reality and a warrant for the existence of cultural practices. The text defines the myth as a sacred story accepted as truth within its society, providing essential insights into religious concepts and historical facts that remain part of a person's …

Net Migration As A Factor Affecting Metropolitan Growth In Utah: 1950 To 1970, Kooros M. Mahmoudi

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

The objectives of this study were to measure net in- or out-migration to or from the Standard Metropolitan Areas of Utah between 1950-60 and 1960-70, and to study selected socio-economic factors relating to migration and the growth of SMSA's. Specifically, the factors of migration and natural population increase were central in an analysis of population redistribution. Selected demographic characteristics of the migrants such as sex and age were also studied to establish their impact upon the SMSA population structure. The relationship between population change in the SMSA's and economic factors of labor force supply and employment were also reviewed.

The Grim Security Of The Past: The Historiography Of Henry Cabot Lodge, Claude Singer Apr 1973

The Grim Security Of The Past: The Historiography Of Henry Cabot Lodge, Claude Singer

Dissertations and Theses

By birth, education, and association, Henry Cabot Lodge belonged to an established New England tradition of attention to history and respect for historical writing. He lived during troubled times, and he realized, as his writings indicate, that America was rapidly changing, that old habits were disappearing, and that powerful new forces were at work in the nation and the world. How Lodge reacted to these circumstances is reflected, in part, in his historical writing.

This thesis is an examination of Lodge's historiographic efforts. It is an attempt, through an analysis of style and predominant themes, to describe the cultural values …

Nietzsche And His Friends: Richard Wagner And Jakob Burckhardt, Meredith A. Butler

The Courier

From November 1 to 10, 1972, Syracuse University's Bird Library was host to a unique exhibition of books, manuscript materials, photographs, and original graphics by and about Friedrich Nietzsche.

The section of the exhibition subtitled "Nietzsche and Friends" is given emphasis in this paper, which was based on materials from Syracuse University Special Collections. They detail Nietzsche's friendship with Richard Wagner and Jakob Burckhardt. As Walter Kaufmann wrote: "It was Wagner's presence that convinced Nietzsche that greatness and genuine creation were still possible, and it was Wagner who inspired him with the persistent longing first to equal and then to …

The Mysticism Of Richard Rolle Of Hampole: An Historical Study Of Causes And Influences, John B. Weber Apr 1973

The Mysticism Of Richard Rolle Of Hampole: An Historical Study Of Causes And Influences, John B. Weber

Bachelors’ Theses

Christian mysticism, by theological definition, is the life of contemplative prayer and meditation by which a person achieves a supernatural love and knowledge of God as he really is. Over the centuries Christian mystics have explained the mystical life as the free gift from God in the Trinity. At the same time these men and women have had difficulty making the nuances of mysticism understandable to non-mystics.

A Theory Of Group Decision-Making Applied To The Bay Of Pigs And Cuban Missile Crisis Decisions, Lester Stephen Slade Jan 1973

A Theory Of Group Decision-Making Applied To The Bay Of Pigs And Cuban Missile Crisis Decisions, Lester Stephen Slade

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

This study of political decision-making stressing the process of decision-making in a group setting is, in part, a reaction against traditional approaches of political analysis.

The study of international relations is overburdened with historical studies of the interaction between states. The classic approach to the study of a given decision by one government affecting another might be called the “rational actor model”. This model treats the state as the entity reaching the decision. The decision itself is seen as behavior that reflects a rational purpose or intent. The central concepts of the model center around the calculated weighing of goals, …
