A Comparative Study Of The Members Of Citizen Advisory Committees In Two Cities, Maryam Hasan

Masters Theses

This research describes and compares locally initiated citizen advisory committees in two Michigan cities, Kalamazoo and Portage. The goal of the description and comparison was to assess the differences, if any, in advisory members' definitions and perceptions of advisory committee purposes, membership characteristics, activities, organization, and members' satisfaction with advisory committee's recommendations and other activities. The study has revealed that there is no significant differences statistically or analytically between the two cities in the area of locally initiated advisory committees even though Kalamazoo is a central city of a metropolitan area with a more heterogeneous population than Portage, a suburban …

Methods And Meanings Of Historical Interpretation For Accountancy, Gary John Previts Oct 1984

Methods And Meanings Of Historical Interpretation For Accountancy, Gary John Previts

Accounting Historians Notebook

Von Mises suggests that history is an intellectual effort which resembles the audit of human activity. History deals with human action, that is, the actions performed by individuals and groups of individuals. It describes the conditions under which people lived and the way they reacted to these conditions. It's subjects are human judgments of value and the ends sought guided by these judgments, the means men resorted to in order to attain the ends sought, and the outcome of their actions. History deals with man's reaction to the state of his environment, both the natural environment and the social environment …

Repossessing The Past: Discontinuity And History In Alfred Kazin's A Walker In The City, John D. Hazlett

English Faculty Publications

The structure of Kazin's A Walker in the City is based upon two quests: the child self is seeking an American identity and access to history; the adult self is seeking to recapture the lost, earlier self and to "escape" from history. The article discusses narrative strategy and the relationship between concepts of history and the re-creation of the self in twentieth century autobiography.

Ralph Iii And The House Of Tosny, Joseph P. Huffman Aug 1984

Ralph Iii And The House Of Tosny, Joseph P. Huffman

Masters Theses

The purpose of this study is to provide a full prosopographical examination of the origins of a great Norman noble family known as the Tosnys, and of its principal figure Ralph III. The Tosny role in the Norman ventures in Italy, Spain, and England is studied, and an analysis of Ralph Ill's English lands, as found in Domesday Book, is also included. This thesis presents a complete study of the life of Ralph III de Tosny; a life virtually void of participation in English affairs after the Conquest. In this he departs from the standard of Norman aristocratic activity in …

A Quantitative Image Evaluation Study Of A Concurrent Photon Amplification Treated Emulsion, Konrad E. Kern Jul 1984

A Quantitative Image Evaluation Study Of A Concurrent Photon Amplification Treated Emulsion, Konrad E. Kern

Theses

A study was performed to evaluate the effect of concurrent photon amplification (CPA) on Kodak Tri-X Pan emulsion in regard to image quality. The study evaluated detective quantum efficiency (DQE), modulation transfer function (MTF), and information content (IC) as a function of exposure in a comparison between normal exposure and CPA. The results showed CPA to enhance image quality relative to normal exposure at very low exposure levels. As the exposure was increased, normally exposed images became comparable and then exceeded CPA exposures in image quality. The exposure level at which normal exposure became preferential was distinct with each image …

Exploring Bible History, Bruce K. Forrest

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

Excerpt: "You are about to embark on what I trust will be for you an interesting and informative journey as we begin to explore Bible History. Understanding Bible history, while at first may seem to be an enormous undertaking, is really within the grasp of most students of the Bible. The history itself falls readily into eight historic periods..."

The Priesthood Of All Believers And The Theology Of Pietism, Breno Faber May 1984

The Priesthood Of All Believers And The Theology Of Pietism, Breno Faber

Master of Sacred Theology Thesis

Pietism and pietistic emphases are becoming popular again because during the seventeenth and early eighteenth century the Pietists sought to revitalize Christianity in ways familiar to twentieth century Christians seeking to do the same. Pietism sought to foster a more vigorous personal and public piety among the people. They sought to improve the education of ministers in practical piety so that they might better guide and edify their people. They sought to encourage the reading of the Bible, Christian education of the youthful and the mature, demonstrated social concern and resposibility in their philanthropic enterprises, and embarked upon ambitious programs …
