Beads As Chronological Indicators In West African Archaeology: A Reexamination, Christopher R. Decorse
Beads As Chronological Indicators In West African Archaeology: A Reexamination, Christopher R. Decorse
BEADS: Journal of the Society of Bead Researchers
Drawing primarily on data obtained from recent excavations at Elmina, Ghana, this report examines the potential use of beads as temporal markers in West African archaeology. It is argued that although beads from West-African contexts are difficult to date, they provide more information than has previously been suggested. The Elmina beads are of particular interest as they can be closely dated by associated European trade materials. Preliminary results from the analysis of the 30,000 European and locally-made glass beads are discussed and findings from other West-African sites are evaluated.

Provincial Politics In The French Revolution: Caen And Limoges, 1789-1794, Paul R, Hanson
Provincial Politics In The French Revolution: Caen And Limoges, 1789-1794, Paul R, Hanson
Butler University Books
This book is first and foremost a study of revolutionary politics, of what molded and determined those politics at the local level. More than simply to compare the local politics of two towns, however, my goal has been to establish the links between local and national political actors, between local and national political issues. Although the nature of local politics tells us a great deal about national political divisions, we need to consider social and economic factors to understand why local politics took the shape they did. Indeed, since I consider those factors to be primary, the manuscript begins and …

Cultural Resource Inventory And Testing In The Salt Creek Pocket And Devils Lane Areas, Needles District, Canyonlands National Park, Utah, United States Department Of The Interior National Park Service
All U.S. Government Documents (Utah Regional Depository)
This document is the final technical report on the first phase of a multiyear archeological program conducted in Canyonlands National Park. Some of the purposes of this project are to gather information for upgrading the park's interpretive program, increase the scientific understanding of Canyonlands' prehistory, and prepare a research design to guide future investigations. Archeological inventory of 4500 acres in the Needles District revealed a previously undocumented Archaic occupation and showed that Formative peoples using the area were primarily the Mesa Verde Anasazi, not the Fremont and Anasazi as previously thought. The data also indicate that prehistoric peoples used the …
Historical Study As Cultural Critique: A Proposal For The Role Of Biblical Scholarship In Theological Education, Vincent L. Wimbush
Historical Study As Cultural Critique: A Proposal For The Role Of Biblical Scholarship In Theological Education, Vincent L. Wimbush
CGU Faculty Publications and Research
Some things are a bit clearer to me today than they were a decade or so ago. For example, I can now better understand and articulate the reasons for my initial and continuing interest in biblical studies. It was the recognition of the pervasive influence of the Bible in the historical experiences of African Americans that first inspired the interest. The importance of the Bible among African Americans is not of significance to me because it is assumed to be unique in the history of the United States. I am quite aware of the historical importance of the Bible among …

Historical/Cultural Criticism As Liberation : A Proposal For An African American Biblical Hermenutic, Vincent L. Wimbush
CGU Faculty Publications and Research
Historical and cultural criticism can serve to aid minority, culturalist readings of the Bible to stand with integrity against alien imperialistic readings. Historical criticism is necessary in order to gain perspective on the historically determined nature of all religious constructs, including those in biblical texts. Cross-cultural analysis is necessary in order to interpret the symbols and referents of biblical cultures and contemporary dominant cultures, so as to determine which symbols and referents from any culture are relevant and affirming.

The Kentucky Humanities Council is an independent, nonprofit affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities committed to providing programs and services that facilitate an understanding and appreciation of Kentucky’s cultural heritage and future. The Council’s program catalog features scholars from across the Commonwealth who make presentations on a myriad of humanities topics. Later, costumed actors, who delivered dramatic monologues about Kentucky’s famous, infamous, and composite personalities, were added. The catalog has gone by various titles over the years: Kentucky Humanities Resource Center, Kentucky Humanities Council Speakers Bureau, Whole Humanities Catalog, and Humanities Catalog. This …

Accounting Historians Journal
Osamu Kojima, Emeritus Professor of Kwansei Gakuin University (Kobe, Japan), died on February 21, 1989, at the age of 76. One of Professor Kojima's major contributions was to examine accounting history in Europe by studying original materials and documents. Biblical-Historical Study As Liberation: Toward An Afro-Christian Hermeneutic, Vincent L. Wimbush
Biblical-Historical Study As Liberation: Toward An Afro-Christian Hermeneutic, Vincent L. Wimbush
CGU Faculty Publications and Research
In the sense that they have always sought to know and articulate "the biblical position" on all matters pertaining to existence, including liberation for their people, all African American leaders--predominantly, though not exclusively, Christian--have been biblical theologians. But very few of these leaders have had as their major concern the academic study of the Bible apart from preparation for, and acceptance of, the presuppositions of confessional vocations. The paucity of African American biblical scholars only confirms the point.

Realizing Catholicism: Faith, Learning, And The Future, Walter J. Ong
Marianist Award Lectures
Father Ong gives a insightful talk on the relation of the Church's Tradition in comparison to the ideas of Romanticism, the mentality of change in America, the development of technology, and the importance of the past to guide the way into the future. Father Ong highlights these ideas to better explain the essence of the term Catholic in that it is related and encompassed throughout the whole of scholarship.
