Failure To Communicate: A Method To Improve Osha And Fsis Collaboration In Meat And Poultry Plants, Ty Haralson
Failure To Communicate: A Method To Improve Osha And Fsis Collaboration In Meat And Poultry Plants, Ty Haralson
Journal of Food Law & Policy
In its 2024 annual report, the GAO recognized the overlapping functions of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (“OSHA”) and the Food Safety and Inspection Service (“FSIS”) in meat and poultry plants and how the two agencies have failed to effectively collaborate. Although both FSIS and OSHA have vested interests in ensuring healthy environments in meat and poultry plants, the administrative agencies have not developed a thorough approach for collaboration.
Created after the passage of the Williams-Steiger Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, OSHA’s primary responsibility is to “ensur[e] safe and healthful working conditions . . . ” in …
Breaking Down Barriers To Giving: Policy Reform Needed To Protect Donors, Volunteers, And Food Charities, Ally Depriest
Breaking Down Barriers To Giving: Policy Reform Needed To Protect Donors, Volunteers, And Food Charities, Ally Depriest
Journal of Food Law & Policy
Charitable organizations often depend on public support to fulfill their missions. This is especially true in the charitable food system, a network of nonprofit organizations, including food banks, pantries, and meal programs, which provide no-cost food to those in need. Within this system, volunteers, donors, and food charities each play an important role, such as donating surplus food, directing traffic at food drives, stocking local pantries, and preparing and serving meals at soup kitchens. Together, they provide both hope and nutrition to those in need. Without this public support, many food charities would be unable to operate. Encouraging public participation …
The Soil Crisis In Modern Food Systems: Rethinking Agricultural Land Use, Antonia Moure Richard
The Soil Crisis In Modern Food Systems: Rethinking Agricultural Land Use, Antonia Moure Richard
Journal of Food Law & Policy
Feeding a larger world while preserving the resource that makes agriculture possible—soil—poses a governance problem. By 2050, food systems must support 9.8 billion people even as prevailing practices continue to degrade soils that are non-renewable on human timescales. Technological fixes (e.g., vertical farming, hydroponics) may complement production, but they cannot substitute for soil at scale. The question that follows is simple: are current uses of soil compatible with the future needs of food systems? This article argues that without a shift in governance, short-run productivity gains are achieved by drawing down the soil asset, thereby undermining long-run food security and …
Closing The Gaps: Reforming Maryland Controls On Veterinary Antimicrobial Distribution, Samantha Capaldo, Kerry Mcclaughry
Closing The Gaps: Reforming Maryland Controls On Veterinary Antimicrobial Distribution, Samantha Capaldo, Kerry Mcclaughry
Journal of Food Law & Policy
Antimicrobials have been used in livestock and other food animals in the United States (“U.S.”) since the late 1940s. An antimicrobial is “[a]ny natural, synthetic, or semisynthetic substance that can eradicate or prevent the growth of microbes,” including “[a]ntibacterial, antifungal, antiparasitic, and antiviral medications.” Antimicrobial use in food animals is subject to a complex statutory and regulatory framework at both the state and federal levels. Antimicrobial use in food animals has been widely criticized for contributing to antimicrobial-resistant bacterial infections in humans. In response to this criticism, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) and several states, including Maryland, have …

Computational Assessment Of Live-Attenuated Measles Vaccine Stability In A Trehalose–Pullulan Glass Matrix: Bayesian Modeling Of Published Viral Thermal-Inactivation Kinetics With Trehalose–Capsid Molecular Dynamics Literature Synthesis, Chaiyapat Chuenglertsiri, Pattrick Chen
Computational Assessment Of Live-Attenuated Measles Vaccine Stability In A Trehalose–Pullulan Glass Matrix: Bayesian Modeling Of Published Viral Thermal-Inactivation Kinetics With Trehalose–Capsid Molecular Dynamics Literature Synthesis, Chaiyapat Chuenglertsiri, Pattrick Chen
Defensive Publications Series
This in-silico feasibility analysis discloses, as defensive prior art (CC BY 4.0), a hypothetical lyophilized presentation of live-attenuated measles vaccine designed to ease the 2-8 C cold-chain dependence that hampers elimination efforts in low- and middle-income countries. No wet-lab viral-titre, immunogenicity, or stability data are generated; all numerical predictions are computational extrapolations from peer-reviewed parameters. At elevated temperature the dominant failure mode is viral inactivation via capsid denaturation and envelope/genome damage; the realistic target is the WHO PQS VVM30 / Category 30 designation (30 days at 37 C with <= 1 log titre loss). The formulation embeds live-attenuated measles virus (MV-EZ or comparable) in an amorphous trehalose-pullulan glass (about 80/15 w/w), reconstituted on use. Feasibility is assessed through five analyses: a viral-inactivation activation-energy Bayesian prior from published measles thermal data (Galazka 1998) with morbillivirus/rotavirus/Sabin-poliovirus process comparators (Worrall 2000; Madan 2018; Shin 2018); a PyMC NUTS titre-retention posterior; a Couchman-Karasz mixed-glass Tg (about 80-88 C anhydrous); a Tang-Pikal lyophilization-cycle design (shelf <= -32 C, <= 50 mTorr); and a trehalose-protein / capsid-sugar molecular-dynamics literature synthesis. The benefit is a low-cost, off-patent, cold-chain-independent vaccine presentation kept in the public domain. Acknowledged prior art (Xerovac, heat-stable rotavirus, thermostable Sabin IPV, WHO PQS VVM30) is non-overlapping; no scCO2 desiccation step is claimed; genome-level damage is acknowledged as a separate pathway. This is a prior-art disclosure, not deployment, regulatory, or clinical guidance.

Computational Assessment Of Lyophilized Insulin Stability In A Trehalose–Mannitol Matrix: Bayesian Shelf-Life Modeling From Published Solid-State Kinetic Data With Trehalose–Insulin Molecular Dynamics Literature Synthesis, Chaiyapat Chuenglertsiri, Pattrick Chen
Defensive Publications Series
This in-silico feasibility analysis discloses, as defensive prior art (CC BY 4.0), a hypothetical lyophilized insulin formulation engineered for amorphous trehalose-glass storage to remove the 2-8 C cold chain that constrains this WHO Essential Medicine. No wet-lab potency, stability, or bioequivalence data are generated; all numerical predictions are computational extrapolations from peer-reviewed parameters. The formulation is pre-formed Zn2+ R6-hexamer insulin embedded in an amorphous trehalose-dihydrate matrix (about 83% w/w of solids), with L-proline as a freeze-stage co-lyoprotectant (about 2-3%) and D-mannitol as a crystalline bulking agent (about 12-15%), reconstituted subcutaneously on use. Feasibility is assessed through five analyses: an activation-energy …

The Open Knowledge Format (OKF) gives the world a portable, vendor-neutral envelope for knowledge — markdown files with YAML frontmatter, cross-linked into a graph — and, by deliberate design, declines to specify how the knowledge inside that envelope should be organised, requiring only a single type field and defining the interoperability surface rather than the content model. The Layered Knowledge Profile (LKP) supplies the content model that OKF leaves open. It encodes, as machine-readable structure expressed entirely within OKF's own conventions, the asymmetric ontological dependency among the four realms of reality described by Alwis (2026), so that a body of …

Engineering Evaluation Of Post-Stroke Gait Using A Wearable G-Walk Sensor Under Different Ankle-Foot Orthosis Conditions: A Longitudinal Case Study, Mohamed Sattar Jabbar, Ammar Issam Kubba
Engineering Evaluation Of Post-Stroke Gait Using A Wearable G-Walk Sensor Under Different Ankle-Foot Orthosis Conditions: A Longitudinal Case Study, Mohamed Sattar Jabbar, Ammar Issam Kubba
AUIQ Technical Engineering Science
The gait profile of post-stroke patients is typically one of reduced speed, asymmetry and decreased functional mobility. Ankle–foot orthoses (AFOs) are commonly prescribed to enhance gait stability and promote safer ambulation; however, within-person longitudinal gait changes across multiple orthotic conditions have not yet been quantitatively characterized using wearable motion analysis systems. The objective of this study was to perform a longitudinal assessment of spatiotemporal gait parameters through a wearable G-Walk inertial measurement unit (IMU) with three walking conditions: without orthosis, Conventional custom-made ankle foot orthosis AFO and Prefabricated posterior leaf spring AFO. Two functional tasks, normal walking and Timed Up …
Shipwrecks: A Genuine Pollution Risk, Farid Hatimy
Shipwrecks: A Genuine Pollution Risk, Farid Hatimy
Revue Marocaine de Droit, d'Economie et de Gestion (Moroccan Journal of Law, Economics and Management)
Marine pollution, defined as the introduction by humans of substances or energy into the marine environment causing harmful effects, is often associated with major maritime accidents. Modern vessels carrying immense cargoes and large quantities of fuel pose significant threats when reduced to shipwrecks through incidents such as breakage, grounding, sinking, or explosion. These shipwrecks represent a genuine risk of accidental—rather than operational—pollution. The author examines how such maritime disasters endanger marine ecosystems, biological resources, human health, and maritime activities including fishing and leisure, highlighting the critical need for effective prevention and intervention measures.

Developing Robust Human Formation For Ministerial Training, Mary L. Parks
Obsculta
The Apostolic Exhortation Pastores Dabo Vobis recognizes that effective ministerial formation is holistic, attending to all aspects of a minister’s being. The document therefore outlines four pillars of formation: human, spiritual, intellectual, and pastoral. In Co-Workers In the Vineyard of the Lord, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) extends the same four pillars of formation to the development of lay ecclesial ministers. The USCCB also applies these pillars to diaconal formation in The National Directory for the Formation, Ministry, and Life of Permanent Deacons in the United States of America.

This reflection was written for and delivered to the community of the Saint John's School of Theology and Seminary on February 19, 2026. It reflects on Isaiah 58:6–8 and the theme of Lenten fasting, as part of the Midday Prayer Service during the first week of Lent. The reflection was composed and offered in the context of the ongoing immigration enforcement raids carried out by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Minneapolis. It invites the community into a deeper consideration of the Christian response to injustice during the Lenten season.
