Tumor-Immune Dynamics With Memory And Time Delay: A Fractional-Order Model With Ctla-4 Regulation, Mutaz Mohammad, Mohyeedden Sweidan, Alexander Trounev, Fathalla Rihan
All Works
This study develops a fractional-order tumor-immune interaction model incorporating Caputo memory effects, delayed immune activation, and CTLA-4 checkpoint regulation. The model describes the coupled dynamics of tumor cells, CD4^+ T cells, IFN-γ, and CTLA-4, and extends classical integer-order tumor-immune models by accounting for hereditary immune responses and biologically motivated latency effects. Theoretical properties, including positivity, boundedness, equilibrium structure, and fractional-order stability, are examined to establish the biological and mathematical consistency of the model. The delayed fractional system is then investigated computationally by comparing several numerical methods, including finite difference discretization, Daubechies wavelet collocation, Euler wavelet collocation, and a predictor-corrector scheme. …

Photoaging caused by chronic sun exposure exhibits characteristics similar to intrinsic aging, including skin thinning, moisture loss, roughness, collagen degradation, and wrinkle formation. This process is driven by oxidative stress and the formation of malondialdehyde (MDA) as a result of lipid peroxidation. Topical intervention using antioxidant-based moisturizers could prevent further damage. Robusta coffee (Coffea canephora), high levels of chlorogenic acid and caffeine, is known for its antioxidant properties. When fermented with a Symbiotic Culture of Bacteria and Yeast (SCOBY) to produce kombucha coffee, its bioactive compounds are enhanced, potentially offering additional protection against oxidative stress and photoaging. This …

Ovarian epithelial cancer is an ovarian malignancy with the highest mortality rate in gynecologic oncology. Its incidence increases after the age of 50 and is associated with various risk factors. Carcinogenesis is driven by factors such as incessant ovulation, gonadotropin stimulation, and postmenopausal hormonal fluctuations. These factors cause DNA damage in ovarian epithelial cells through specific molecular pathways, resulting in diverse histopathological types and subtypes. Furthermore, the disease's progression and staging are significantly impacted by its pathways of spread via blood vessels and lymphatics known as LVI (Lymphovascular Invasion). This study employed a comparative observational analytical design with a cross-sectional …

Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) is an aggressive hematologic malignancy marked by uncontrolled expansion of immature myeloid cells and disruption of normal hematopoiesis. Beyond genetic abnormalities, accumulating evidence demonstrates that leukemic progression is strongly shaped by intercellular communication within the bone marrow niche. Extracellular vesicles (EVs), including exosomes and microvesicles, have emerged as key mediators of this communication, transporting bioactive molecules that influence leukemic cell behavior, immune responses, and treatment sensitivity. This systematic review synthesizes current findings on EVs in adult AML, focusing on their biogenesis, molecular cargo, roles in disease pathogenesis, diagnostic and prognostic relevance, and therapeutic potential. Following PRISMA …

Social Complex Systems In Virtual Thirdspaces Of Global Education: Sites Of Structural Inequalities And Radical Pedagogical Possibilities, José Luis Jimenez-Figarotti
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
While Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) and Virtual Exchange (VE) are celebrated as democratizing tools fostering intercultural understanding, this techno-utopian narrative obscures a complex reality: the virtual classroom is a contested social field where global inequalities are reproduced and amplified. This dissertation interrogates this paradox, exploring how structural inequalities, digital divides, and epistemic hierarchies are negotiated within the Virtual Thirdspace of global education. Integrating Structural Inequalities (Galtung, 1969; Farmer, 2004; Tilly, 1998; and Young, 2008), Critical Environmental Justice (Pellow, 2018), Intersectionality (Crenshaw, 1989), World-Systems Analysis (Wallerstein, 1974), and Thirdspace theory (Soja, 1996), the study examines this terrain as both a …

Cryopreservation of goat semen is an essential tool for genetic improvement, germplasm conservation, and the expansion of artificial insemination programs in caprine breeding. However, buck spermatozoa are highly susceptible to cryo-induced oxidative stress due to their membrane composition rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids. Excessive generation of reactive oxygen species during semen processing, freezing, and thawing compromises sperm motility, viability, membrane integrity, mitochondrial function, and DNA stability, ultimately reducing post-thaw fertilizing potential. Semen extenders play a pivotal role in mitigating these detrimental effects by providing cryoprotection and maintaining cellular homeostasis. Among commercial extenders, Triladyl® is widely used in ruminant semen preservation; …

Mangroves provide coastal communities with a multitude of ecosystem services. This is the case in Joal-Fadiouth. A study on its mangrove dynamics revealed a decline in area between 1974 and 2004, followed by a gradual trend after it acquired Marine Protected Area (MPA) status in 2004. Given the importance of this mangrove, the research focused on analyzing its evolution associated with rainfall and temperature variability. To do this, Spearman’s Rho correlation coefficient was performed between mangrove areas in 10-year increments from 1974 to 2024 and values of climate parameters studied for each increment, with n (number of pairs) = 6. …

Polythene bags are highly inert plastic materials made from monomers of ethylene. Due to their durability, lightweight, and low-weight characteristics, polythene bags are in high demand among consumers and retailers worldwide. This widespread use of polythene bags has led to the generation of polythene waste in the environment. This study focused on the degradation of polythene bags through fungal strains in the desired region. In this research, three identified fungal strains, namely Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus flavus, and Fusarium oxysporum, were screened using two synthetic media for degradation, such as the culture plate method (CPM) and Liquid media degradation (LMD). The area around Union Street in Plymouth, UK, has been facing processes of decline. Key historical buildings sit empty, with deteriorating fabrics, epitomizing the socio-economic condition of the neighborhood. This paper explores perceptions of ‘inclusion’ in Union Street, and visions to improve it, through interviews with key stakeholders from community groups, the local authority, local businesses, landlords, local health organizations, visitors and designers. Whilst some local actors amplify inclusive processes - for example in the low-cost re-use of spaces to host micro, alternative businesses or community initiatives – these efforts clash with a general perception of a depleted and unsafe …
