Implementation Of A Zen Room And Mindfulness Techniques To Decrease Perceived Burnout, Danika Scott
Doctor of Nursing Practice Final Project Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this quality improvement (QI) project was to implement a Zen room and mindfulness techniques, aiming to improve job satisfaction by 65% and reduce perceived burnout by 10% among behavioral health staff. The project was conducted at a substance abuse center in Deer Park, TX.
Background: Behavioral health staff face high levels of emotional exhaustion and job-related stress, leading to increased burnout.
Methodology: The Plan-Do-Study-Act model guided the QI methodology using a sample of 23 behavioral health staff. Interventions included an equipped Zen space and wellness resources. Data collection utilized the Maslach Burnout Inventory and a …

Reporting And Tracking Of Occupational Bloodborne Pathogen Exposures, Olivia Smith
Doctor of Nursing Practice Final Project Abstract
Purpose/Background: Underreporting of occupational bloodborne pathogen (BBP) exposures remains a significant patient and employee safety issue. At UT Health, outdated paper-based systems hindered accurate tracking, timely follow-up, and reporting compliance. The aim of this quality improvement (QI) project was to achieve a 30% increase in quarterly BBP exposure reports, from 30 to 39, by implementing an electronic reporting system between January 1 and March 31, 2025.
Methodology: Guided by the Health Belief Model and using the Implementation and Improvement Science (IIS) Framework, the project replaced the existing paper form with an external, user-friendly digital system. Staff received structured training, and …

Clinically Validated Graphical Approaches Identify Hepatosplenic Multimorbidity In Individuals At Risk Of Schistosomiasis, Yin-Cong Zhi, Simon Mpooya, Narcis Kabatereine, Betty Nabatte, Christopher Opio, Narcis Kabatereine, Goylette Chami
Internal Medicine, East Africa
The global burden of multimorbidity is increasing yet poorly understood, owing to insufficient methods for modelling complex systems of conditions. In particular, hepatosplenic multimorbidity has been inadequately investigated. From 17 January to 16 February 2023, we examined 3186 individuals aged 5–92 years from 52 villages across Uganda within the SchistoTrack Cohort. Point-of-care B-mode ultrasound was used to assess 45 hepatosplenic conditions within the context of schistosomiasis (Schistosoma mansoni). Three graph learning methods for representing hepatosplenic multimorbidity were compared. Thresholds for including graph edges were found using graph kernels and tested with graph neural networks to assess predictive utility for unobserved …

Practicing Dentistry In The Age Of Periodontal Risk Management, Roger N. Warren D.D.S., Liana Umbrio D.D.S., Leena Palomo D.D.S., M.S.D.
The New York State Dental Journal
Purpose of review: To provide clinicians with knowledge of periodontal risk assessment that can be applied chairside effortlessly.
Recent findings: Detecting periodontal risk factors early may reduce the morbidity of oral and systemic diseases, as oral and systemic health can have a bidirectional relationship.
Summary: Dental professionals are equipped with evidence-based risk factors to predict and prevent the progression of periodontal disease. Implementing chairside risk assessment allows for prevention and early intervention, potentially reducing healthcare costs and promoting simpler solutions in an unpredictable economy.

Good Faith Estimates And The No Surprises Act, Stuart L. Segelnick Dds, Ms
The New York State Dental Journal
Federal law requires dentists to be up front with self-pay patients about the cost of their treatment. Surprises may lead to penalties.
The No Surprises Act (NSA) went into effect on Jan. 1, 2022. This is a federal law that applies to all health-care providers, including dentists. The law gives certain rights to patients to help protect them from receiving surprise medical bills. These surprises usually occur when a person has no control over who treats them, such as during an emergency or when they are treated unknowingly by an out-of-network provider.

Factors Influencing Digital Technology Adoption And Use Among Msmes In Indonesia, Andry Manodotua Panjaitan, Niko Sudibjo, Cahya Pulupi Meilani
DLSU Business & Economics Review
The purpose of this study is to see how attitudes toward behavior, subjective norms, and digital technology literacy affect adoption intentions and their impact on digital technology usage behavior in small and medium enterprises in Indonesia. This study used 532 MSME samples and tested them using SEM PLS analysis. The test findings showed that eight proposed hypotheses were accepted, and one was rejected. Digitally literate MSME owners and leaders can increase market awareness and set clear digital transformation goals for their companies. Furthermore, with government support for technology in MSMEs, digital technology is expected to be used not just for …

This study sought to describe the experiences of families seeking asylum at the U.S./Mexico border and explore how traveling with and without family was associated with mental health in a large group of Latinx adults. Additionally, we explored relations between experiences of family separation due to migration and anxiety and depression. N = 400 participants were recruited from two main locations: an encampment site along the Rio Grande River in Reynosa Tamaulipas, Mexico and a respite center serving families recently released by U.S. Customs and Border Protection in McAllen, Texas. The average age of participants was 31.35 years (SD …

Following the COVID-19 pandemic, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and the Children's Hospital Association declared a national emergency in child and adolescent mental health. Rates of anxiety and depression in youth continue at unprecedented levels, contributing to rising numbers of suicide attempts and lowered school attendance. Though many medical providers are trained to assess and provide recommendations for anxiety and depression, many report feeling ill-equipped to address these concerns in a timely, feasible, and effective manner. We review the existing literature on screening for anxiety and depression in the medical setting …

Background: Assessing fruit and vegetable intake is important to determine the effectiveness of nutrition intervention studies. Few objective measures of fruit and vegetable intake have been directly compared within the same study participants.
Objectives: This study aims to compare the relative validity of 2 different skin spectrophotometry devices to serve as biomarkers of plasma carotenoid concentrations, self-reported fruit and vegetable intake (FVI), and carotenoid intake, to examine if both devices can be used to approximate FVI.
Methods: Human skin carotenoid scores (SCS, Veggie Meter-assessed) and color space measurement data from 2 prior studies were used. Participants' skin color space parameters …

Clustering and nesting (C&N) arise in many preclinical studies such as when animals are group-housed, share litters, or in cell culture. Ignoring C&N undermines the validity of analyses. We explain how C&N arise and valid designs and analyses.
