Can Esg Reduce Credit Risk? An Empirical Investigation Across Asean-5 Markets, Arrafif Pratama Zaini, Maria Ulpah
The Indonesian Capital Market Review
Based on stakeholder theory and signaling theory, companies with strong ESG performance send signals to various stakeholders, thus building trust and influencing better credit risk evaluation. This study empirically examines the effect of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) performance on the credit risk of non-financial public companies in ASEAN-5 countries (Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand) over the period 2019-2023. Corporate credit risk is measured using 2 main approaches: the accounting-based and market-based models. Merton's KMV model calculates the probability of default (PD) using a market-based approach. In contrast, the Altman Z-Score predicts bankruptcy risk based on financial ratios in …

This study uses quantitative methods to explore the role of school social workers (SSWs) in promoting education equity for immigrant students. We focus on how SSWs act as resource brokers, connecting immigrant students to valuable resources both in schools and the wider community. Our analysis is based on data from a national survey of SSWs (N = 324). Through regression and multivariate analyses we find that a significant number of SSWs actively facilitate resource access for immigrant students. This often involves bridging the gap between teachers and immigrant parents. Notably, SSWs were more likely to engage in these brokerage …

BACKGROUND: Thoracic (TAA) and abdominal (AAA) aortic aneurysm are life-threatening diseases characterized by dilation, inflammation, and structural weakness; development of pharmacological therapies is desperately needed. CNP (C-type natriuretic peptide) plays a key role in vascular homeostasis, mediating vasodilator, anti-inflammatory, and antiatherogenic actions. Since such processes drive AA, we determined the role of endogenous CNP in offsetting pathogenesis. METHODS: Tissue from patients with AA was analyzed to determine the consequences on CNP signaling. Ascending and suprarenal aortic diameters were assessed at baseline and following Ang II (angiotensin II; 1.44 mg/kg per day) infusion in wild-type, endothelium-restricted (ecCNP-/-), fibroblast-restricted (fbCNP …

Senescent cells emerge with aging and injury. The contribution of senescent cells to DNA methylation age (DNAmAGE) in vivo is uncertain. Furthermore, stem cell therapy can mediate “rejuvenation”, but how tissue regeneration controlled by resident stem cells affects whole tissue DNAmAGE is unclear. We assessed DNAmAGE with or without senolytics (BI01) in aged male mice (24–25 months) 35 days following muscle healing (BaCl2-induced regeneration versus non-injured). Young injured mice (5–6 months) without senolytics were comparators. DNAmAGE was decelerated by up to 68% after injury in aged muscle. DNAmAGE was modestly but further significantly decelerated by injury recovery with …

National Policy Consensus Center Publications
Community-based collaboration has been touted as an effective model for forest governance because it promotes democratized decision-making and stakeholder engagement to address landscape-scale problems. Forest collaboratives are assumed to be heterogeneous, consisting of stakeholders with a diverse range of interests. Few studies have systematically explored variables associated with collaborative composition. We identify six elements of collaborative composition for investigation: size, stakeholder diversity, balance, locality–diversity, core attendance, and cross-participation. This exploratory study examines five forest collaborative groups in eastern Oregon (USA). We analyzed meeting minutes over an 18-month period to track attendance and evaluate who shows up and at what frequency. …

Facial Color Matching In Optical See-Through Augmented Reality, Yanmei He
Facial Color Matching In Optical See-Through Augmented Reality, Yanmei He
Theses
Augmented reality (AR) aims to combine elements of the surrounding environment with additional virtual content into a combined viewing scene. Displaying virtual human faces is a widespread practical application of AR technology, which can be challenging in optical see- through AR (OST-AR), due to limitations in its color reproduction. Specifically, OST-AR’s additive optical blending introduces transparency and color-bleeding, which is exacerbated especially for faces having darker skin tones, and for brighter and more chromatic ambient environments. Given the increasing prevalence of social AR applications, it is essential to better understand how facial color reproduction is impacted by skin tone and …
Something’S Gonna Give, Jonathan Dean Mills
Something’S Gonna Give, Jonathan Dean Mills
Theses
This thesis examines the differences between structures of time and the relationships in which queer people orient themselves to develop an archive of a trans- body navigating the world they inhabit. Through deconstructing the notions of hegemonic time, queer identities and spaces are created, occupied, and left to be re-navigated. This study explores the fluidity of materials such as plaster, metal, and glass, in tandem with a transitioning body and identity, aiming to break down the structures of time and place to build new definitions of existence, identity, and the pursuit of a trans- future.
Online And Offline Multi-Variate Time Series Forecasting With Neuroevolution Based Neural Architecture Search, Zimeng Lyu
Theses
Time series forecasting plays a crucial role in various fields, ranging from financial markets and predictive maintenance in industrial settings to healthcare analytics. Traditionally, statistical approaches were employed primarily for univariate forecasting tasks, but modern applications often require robust solutions capable of handling complex, multivariate, noisy, and non-stationary data. Current state-of-the-art solutions predominantly utilize transformer-based models, which demand significant computational resources, limiting their practicality, especially in resource-constrained environments. This dissertation introduces novel and efficient approaches to multivariate time series forecasting, leveraging NeuroEvolution-based Neural Architecture Search (NAS) methodologies. Specifically, two robust algorithms---Evolutionary eXploration of Augmenting Memory Models (EXAMM) for offline forecasting …

Unique Architecture: In Praise Of Paradox Persistence, Odaly Plancarte
Theses
This thesis explores how bold and unconventional architectural designs are first rejected and later embraced by the public. Through a comparative study of the Sydney Opera House, the Louvre Pyramid, and the Walt Disney Concert Hall, it examines how public opinion shifts over time. Using media reports, interviews, and public comments, the study tracks emotional responses (positive, neutral, or negative) assigned a score to measure change over the years. The research applies Everett Rogers’ Diffusion of Innovation Theory to explain this shift in five stages: knowledge, persuasion, decision, implementation, and confirmation. Each building faced early backlash, but eventually became a …
Characterizing Tcap Set-Ups For Effective Separation On Hydrogen Isotope Species, James R. Hanby
Characterizing Tcap Set-Ups For Effective Separation On Hydrogen Isotope Species, James R. Hanby
Theses
Hydrogen isotope separation was investigated using a series of thermal cycling absorption process (TCAP) experiments. Pulse tests were conducted using deuterium injected into a protium flow over a range of superficial velocities, temperatures, particle sizes, and column diameters to quantify the efficiency of this process for a palladium on kieselguhr catalyst. The resulting response curves, obtained from residual gas analysis, were used to calculate the height equivalent to a theoretical plate (HETP) in each case. These values were then fit with van Deemter curves to illustrate the change in HETP over gas velocity. A strong positive correlation with temperature was …

Investigating The Role Of Msbdnf – Trkb Signaling In The Maintenance Of Mitochondrial Populations Through The Bnip3 Mitophagy Pathway, Jack A. Horton
All NMU Master's Theses
Maintenance of mitochondrial transport and clearance at the pre- and post-synaptic terminal is an essential function of neuromuscular junctions to meet their high energy demands. Damaged or dysfunctional mitochondria can put stress on these synaptic junctions, ultimately leading to the degradation of the synapse and subsequent cell death. Dysfunctional mitochondria are also often present in neuromuscular diseases such as ALS. One possible mechanism by which neurons may eliminate dysfunctional mitochondria is through the muscle-synthesized BDNF (msBDNF) /TrkB-mediated Bcl-2 nineteen-kD interacting protein (BNIP3) mitophagy pathway, although the relationship is not well-defined. BNIP3 localizes to the mitochondria and triggers a loss of …
The Effect Of Skeletal Muscle-Synthesized Bdnf On Motor Neuron Soma Size And Bdnf Protein Abundance, Sydney Benson
The Effect Of Skeletal Muscle-Synthesized Bdnf On Motor Neuron Soma Size And Bdnf Protein Abundance, Sydney Benson
All NMU Master's Theses
Brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) is a neurotrophin essential to neuron health and maintenance in both the central nervous system and periphery. It acts as a positive feedback system for the body’s motor neurons and the muscles they innervate, strengthening the synapse between them. Skeletal muscle-synthesized BDNF transmission occurs across the neuromuscular junction, the site where motor neuron axons synapse with muscle fibers. BDNF transmission to tropomyosin receptor kinase B (TrkB) at the motor neuron axon terminal causes clathrin mediated endocytosis of the complex and an intracellular signaling cascade that recruits dynein motor proteins for retrograde transport of the BDNF/TrkB …

Plants have evolved intricate strategies to cope with various abiotic stresses. Ubiquitin-mediated protein degradation plays a key role in plant development as well as abiotic stress tolerance. In this study, we identify LAO1, an F-box protein with unknown function, as a negative regulator of plant fitness during nitrogen starvation. DOMINANT SUPPRESSOR OF KAR 2 (DSK2) interacts with and mediates the autophagic degradation of LAO1 protein during nitrogen starvation. The loss of LAO1 improves the fitness of an autophagy-deficient mutant, atg5-1, under nitrogen starvation. Intriguingly, mutations in DSK2 facilitate rather than reduce plant growth after nitrogen starvation. This unexpected effect of …
