Ergonomic And Biomechanical Assessment Of Vertical Ladder Climbing For Exoskeleton Integration In Construction Tasks, Ehsan Shourangiz Jul 2025

Ergonomic And Biomechanical Assessment Of Vertical Ladder Climbing For Exoskeleton Integration In Construction Tasks, Ehsan Shourangiz

LSU Master's Theses

Active exoskeletons are increasingly utilized in physically demanding industries such as construction and manufacturing to reduce strain and lower the risk of work-related musculoskeletal disorders, supporting worker safety and long-term health. However, most existing systems are designed for repetitive tasks like lifting or prolonged standing, with limited consideration for dynamic activities such as vertical ladder climbing. Ladder climbing is common and physically demanding in industrial environments, often required to access elevated areas like scaffolding, tanks, or rooftops. Since exoskeletons are intended to remain worn throughout multiple tasks, requiring workers to remove and re-don the device during ladder climbing would reduce …

Investigation Of Subcellular Damage And Long-Term Non-Cancerous Cardiovascular Effects Following Whole-Body Photon Irradiation, Nousha Afshari Jul 2025

Investigation Of Subcellular Damage And Long-Term Non-Cancerous Cardiovascular Effects Following Whole-Body Photon Irradiation, Nousha Afshari

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

Current radiobiological models focus primarily on nuclear DNA damage and fail to fully explain radiation-induced noncancerous health effects. This dissertation investigates whether non-nuclear subcellular structures contribute to radiation-induced biological damage through experimental biomarker analysis and computational microdosimetry. The central hypothesis posits that whole-body photon irradiation results in subcellular non-nuclear damage, specifically increased circulating mitochondrial DNA concentrations, that correlates with radiation dose and long-term noncancerous effects such as cardiovascular disease.

Specific Aim 1 measured mitochondrial and nuclear DNA concentrations in banked blood samples from 72 Chinese rhesus macaques that previously received whole-body photon irradiation ($0-10$ Gy) from Cobalt-60 or LINAC sources. …

Autism And Down Syndrome: An Examination Of The Baby And Infant Screen For Autism Traits In Toddlers With Down Syndrome, Celeste Tevis

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

Current research suggests that children with Down Syndrome (DS) are at an increased risk for autism spectrum disorder (ASD) compared to the general population. Detecting ASD early in children with DS is crucial to providing access to additional treatment services and supports that may be necessary. Despite a critical need to identify ASD as early as possible, diagnoses of ASD are often delayed in individuals with DS. It can be especially difficult for clinicians to differentiate between symptoms attributed to intellectual developmental disorder (IDD), a primary feature of DS, and possible ASD symptoms. Only two research studies have evaluated the …

2020-Current year OA Pubs

Reverse genetics approaches in mice are widely used to understand gene functions and their aberrations in diseases. However, limitations exist in translating findings from animal models to human physiology. Humanized mice provide a powerful bridge to understanding human physiology and mechanisms of disease pathogenesis while maintaining the feasibility of working with small animals. Methods for generating humanized mouse models that allow scientists to probe contributions of particular genes have been rudimentary. Here, we established an efficient method for generating genetically modified human cord blood-derived CD34

High Glucose In Diabetic Hyperglycemia Perturbs Lymphocyte Serca-Regulated Ca2+ Stores With Accompanying Er Stress And Signaling Dysfunction, Md N. Uddin, James L. Graham, Peter J. Havel, Roshanak Rahimian, David W. Thomas

Pacific Faculty Work

It is well recognized that patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) exhibit significant impairment of immune function resulting in a higher frequency of infections. We hypothesize in this study that a likely contributor to immune dysfunction in T2DM is alteration of T lymphocyte signaling functions induced by chronic hyperglycemia. In this study we have utilized the established UC Davis Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (UCD-T2DM) rat model of human T2DM to investigate whether progressive hyperglycemia diminishes T cell receptor (TCR)-releasable endoplasmic reticulum (ER) Ca2+ stores, an essential early antigen-stimulated signal driving T cell activation. Furthermore, results from this study …

Preparation And Properties Of Rutin-Casein Complexes, Zhang Nan, Liu Lili, Yang Le, Li Sisi, Zhang Xinyuan

Food and Machinery

[Objective] To investigate the effect of complexes produced by protein -polyphenol interaction on the bioavailability of polyphenols and proteins.[Methods] Rutin -casein complexes are prepared using rutin and casein as raw materials.Their physicochemical and structural properties are analyzed.[Results]] The optimal preparation conditions for the rutin -casein complexes are determined as follows:mass ratio of rutin to casein =1.89∶1.00,reaction time of 5.94 h,pH 8.5,and temperature of 50 ℃.Under such conditions, the binding degree is 40.23%.Compared with casein, the complexes exhibit a decrease in emulsifying activity index (8.47 m2/g) and emulsifying stability (9.39%).The solubility increases by 5.11%,surface hydrophobicity is significantly enhanced, and antioxidant activity markedly improves (P<0.05).Scanning electron microscopy reveals that the rutin -casein complexes display a lamellar structure with smooth surfaces, which may contribute to its functional properties.Infrared spectroscopy demonstrates peak broadening and redshifts in the amide I and II bands, and fluorescence intensity (including synchronous fluorescence ) decreases due to fluorescence quenching. It indicates that rutin alters the secondary structure and conformational arrangement of casein.[Conclusion] Compared with the uncomplexed casein, the rutin -casein complexes are enhanced in solubility, surface hydrophobicity, and antioxidant activity.引用格式:张楠,刘丽莉,杨乐,等.芦丁—酪蛋白复合物的制备及特性研究 [J].食品与机械,2025,41(7):9-17.C itation:ZHANG Nan,LIU Lili,YANG Le,et al.Preparation and properties of rutin-casein complexes [J].Food & Machinery,2025,41(7):9-17.

Mir-302a/B/D-3p Differentially Expressed During Frontonasal Development Is Sensitive To Retinoic Acid Exposure, Chihiro Iwaya, Akiko Suzuki, Goo Jun, Junichi Iwata

Faculty, Staff and Student Publications

Any failure in frontonasal development can lead to malformations at the middle facial region, such as frontonasal dysplasia, midfacial clefts, and hyper/hypotelorism. Various environmental factors influence morphogenesis through epigenetic regulations, including the action of noncoding microRNAs (miRNAs). However, it remains unclear how miRNAs are involved in the frontonasal development. In our analysis of publicly available miRNA-seq and RNA-seq datasets, we found that miR-28a-5p, miR-302a-3p, miR-302b-3p, and miR-302d-3p were differentially expressed in the frontonasal process during embryonic days 10.5 to 13.5 (E10.5–E13.5) in mice. Overexpression of these miRNAs led to a suppression of cell proliferation in cultured mouse embryonic frontonasal mesenchymal …
