Impact Of Extended Reality On Robot-Assisted Surgery Training: A Systematic Review And Meta-Analysis, Michael Bickford, Fayez Alruwaili, Sara Ragab, Hanna Rothenberg, Mohammad Abedin-Nasab

Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine Departmental Research

Robot-assisted surgeries (RAS) have an extremely steep learning curve. Because of this, surgeons have created many methods to practice RAS outside the operating room. These training models usually include animal or plastic models; however, extended reality simulators have recently been introduced into surgical training programs. This systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted to determine if extended reality simulators can improve the performance of robotic novices and how their performance compares to the conventional training of surgeons on surgical robots. Using the PRISMA 2020 guidelines, a systematic review was performed searching PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane library for studies …

New Patient Onboarding, Jennifer Fournier, Sarah Flagg, Alletta Roberts Dzik, Lyndsay Stevens, Shannon Smith, Karen Waterhouse

Operations Transformation

Currently there are barriers to establish a new patient with a primary care. The workflow for patients who self-refer currently requires 10 steps and is performed by 7 care team members.

  • 4 PSR at the front desk complete paper intake forms that are then manually entered into a spreadsheet by 3 other care team members.

The step in the workflow, to obtain the release of information for patient records to be requested and submit the form, is inconsistently followed internally and externally and results in very long process time of 40+ days. This step is frequently overlooked due to the …

Zambia's Poor Septic Waste Management: A Disaster In Waiting, Andrew Mwape Jul 2025

Zambia's Poor Septic Waste Management: A Disaster In Waiting, Andrew Mwape

School of Natural Resources: Faculty Publications

In the shadows of Zambia’s rapidly growing urban and peri-urban communities lies an invisible but mounting threat, the mismanagement of septic waste. While national dialogue often focuses on economic development, climate change, or energy, the sanitation crisis receives little public attention, yet it poses an equally severe risk to public health, environmental integrity, and sustainable urbanization. Zambia’s poor septic waste management, if left unaddressed, is a disaster in waiting.

Septic waste refers to the wastewater and solid waste that flows from toilets, sinks, and other domestic plumbing fixtures into on-site sanitation systems such as septic tanks or pit latrines. This …

Templating Of Monomeric Alpha-Synuclein Results In Inflammation And Snpc Dopamine Neuron Death In A Genetic Mouse Model Of Induced Synucleinopathy, Matthew D. Byrne, Peyman Petramfar, Jae-Kyung Lee, Richard J. Smeyne

Department of Neuroscience Faculty Papers

While the etiology of most cases of Parkinson's disease (PD) are idiopathic, it has been estimated that 5-10% of PD arise from known genetic mutations. The first mutations described that leads to the development of an autosomal dominant form of PD are in the SNCA gene that codes for the protein alpha-synuclein (α-syn). α-syn is an abundant presynaptic protein that is natively disordered and whose function is still unclear. In PD, α-syn misfolds into multimeric b-pleated sheets that aggregate in neurons (Lewy Bodies/neurites) and spread throughout the neuraxis in a pattern that aligns with disease progression. Here, using IHC, HC, …

Allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplant (allo-HCT) is underutilized in adults aged ≥70 years. Morbidity, often driven by graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), is considered a major barrier to its use. The BMT CTN 1703 trial (ClinicalTrials.gov identifier: NCT03959241) randomly assigned adults with hematologic malignancies undergoing allo-HCT after reduced intensity conditioning to receive either posttransplant cyclophosphamide, mycophenolate mofetil, and tacrolimus (PTCy) or tacrolimus and methotrexate (Tac/MTX) for GVHD prophylaxis. Overall study results revealed superior GVHD-free, relapse-free survival (GRFS) with PTCy-based prophylaxis. This analysis explored the impact of PTCy in patients aged ≥70 years enrolled in BMT CTN 1703. We analyzed outcomes for 96 patients …

Background

Optimizing human performance under stressful physical and cognitive conditions is paramount during high-stakes military operations. As such, interventions to improve warfighter performance by mitigating task-induced cognitive performance deficits are necessary. While caffeine is the most widely consumed psychoactive substance in the world, common side effects (i.e. anxiousness, micro-saccades, irritability) may be detrimental to warfighter operations. Theacrine, a purine alkaloid similar in structure to caffeine but with a longer half-life, less habituation, and fewer side effects, is proposed as a caffeine-alternative to enhance cognitive resilience.

In Lieu Of The Nlra, Gali Racabi

Cornell Law Faculty Working Papers

The National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) deteriorates from constitutional attacks and political sabotage. As labor law buckles, its preemption regime, a keystone of U.S. labor governance, has become unsustainable. This Article argues that labor law must flip its federal default by empowering and expanding state-level labor institutions and expanding gaps in NLRA preemption doctrine. Eighteen states already maintain NLRA-like statutory frameworks, and fourteen more recognize workers’ rights to unionize and act collectively as a state public policy. These under-examined laws hint at an alternative labor governance model in lieu of the NLRA.

Building on emerging preemption challenges, weaknesses in federal …

Design And Investigation Of Triarylamine Functionalized Luminophores For Multi-Functional And Stimuli-Responsive Applications, Sasikala R

Theses and Dissertations

Organic solid-state fluorescent materials have garnered attention over many decades in virtue of their contribution in the development of LED devices and biomedical applications. Nevertheless, the potential of fluorescent molecules in device applications was underused due to aggregation-caused quenching (ACQ) effect. The ACQ effect commonly quenches the organic molecules fluorescence intensity in the aggregated or condensed state, which can significantly influence their performance in practical applications.

The organic polyaromatic fluorophores exhibit strong fluorescence in the solution state. After culmination of years of work, Prof. Tang’s research group discovered a new phenomenon of aggregation-induced emission (AIE) in the fluorescence molecules constructed …
