Be Mindful: Examining A Brief Mindfulness Intervention On Educator Well-Being, Oceann S. Gittens
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
Teaching is currently rated as one of the topmost stressful occupations. Concerningly, chronic levels of stress can lead to poor mental and physical health, occupational burnout, and teacher attrition; all of which have a negative impact on student outcomes. Mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) are commonly used to combat occupational stress by enhancing educator well-being. There is compelling evidence to support these types of interventions with teachers. However, the length of many MBIs may make them prohibitive for the average educator to participate in them. The literature suggests that a briefer format may be just as effective at reducing stress, but more …

2020-Current year OA Pubs
BACKGROUND: Wearable movement sensors can measure upper limb (UL) activity, but single variables may not capture the full picture. This study aimed to replicate prior work identifying five multivariate categories of UL activity performance in people with stroke and controls and expand those findings to other UL conditions.
METHODS: Demographic, self-report, and wearable sensor-based UL activity performance variables were collected from 324 participants (stroke
RESULTS: Two PCs explained 70-90% variance: PC1 (overall UL activity performance) and PC2 (preferred-limb use). A five-variable, five-cluster model was optimal across samples. In comparison to clusters, two PCs and individual accelerometry variables showed higher convergent …
Unpacking Digital Transformation – Constructing A Framework Based On Industry Use Cases, Khawaja Asjad Saeed, Andrew William Green, Alison Brooke Hedrick
Unpacking Digital Transformation – Constructing A Framework Based On Industry Use Cases, Khawaja Asjad Saeed, Andrew William Green, Alison Brooke Hedrick
Faculty Articles
Based on industry use cases, we identify six distinct types of digital transformation (DT), each grounded in a specific concept or enabling technology. These DT types can be implemented individually or combined to drive transformation initiatives. While deploying a single DT type often focuses on improving operational efficiency or streamlining existing workflows, initiatives that combine multiple DT types tend to pursue more ambitious goals, such as the creation of new products, services, or business models. However, the complexity increases significantly with the integration of multiple DT types, as organizations must not only address behavioral changes but also overcome technical challenges …

Resistance to multi-tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKI) is a major clinical concern in advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Herein, we aimed to uncover the mechanisms underlying pan-TKI resistance and to identify potential therapeutic targets. We used multiple TKI-resistant HCC cell lines to identify caveolin-1 (CAV1) as a key driver of therapeutic resistance. CAV1 downregulation induced apoptosis, inhibited metastasis and restored TKI sensitivity in both inherent and acquired TKI-resistant HCC cells. Mechanistically, in acquired TKI-resistant cells aberrant CAV1/STAT3/P70S6K signalling is required for their survival, motility, and invasiveness. CAV1 inhibition reduced expression of dormancy regulators E-cadherin, RAC1 and p21, enhanced cancer stemness markers, and …

Improving the statistical and predictive accuracy, especially of the data on natural hazards, is important in addressing these issues. Therefore, policymakers urgently need a reliable forecasting methodology that provides decision-makers with early estimates of future and resulting healthcare expenditures based on historical time series data, so that they can assess potential risks. Researchers in the field of time series face the problem of choosing the best model for analysis from among several available models. Hence, this study compares the most effective model between a time series structure and a neural network model. Therefore, this research compares the predictive performance of …

During the COVID-19 pandemic, mass media, especially online news portals, have been essential in disseminating health information and governmental policies, serving as the primary reference for the general public. Unfortunately, not all news articles are relevant to COVID-19 case monitoring. Some sources provide information that is less useful for tracking the pandemic's progression. Thus, it is crucial to develop a methodology that allows news articles to effectively aid stakeholders in monitoring COVID-19 developments. This study proposes using Deep Learning (DL) models to classify news headlines for this purpose. The aim is to identify suitable and reliable DL models for classifying …

Baghdad Science Journal
Parkinson's Disease, a neurodegenerative disorder, is one of the major chronic health issues in the world. It causes a severe disorder that affects majorly muscle control but it can also be the reason of affecting senses, cognitive ability and cognitive health. Approximately, 90% of the Parkinson affected people face speech difficulty. Conventional diagnosis methods may be biased which may result in wrong diagnosis of Parkinson's Disease because symptoms are usually elusive. This study aims to assess how well different machine learning algorithms can predict Parkinson's disease using vowel phonation data, with the goal of early detection and more accurate patient …
