Reflection On The ‘Power Of Us’ Conference: How Mainstream Schools In England Offer Provision To Children With Special Educational Needs (Sen), Grace H A Cooper
Plymouth Interdisciplinary Education Open Journal
The majority of children in England with Special Educational Needs or Disabilities (SEND) are educated within mainstream schools. Due to the broad range of needs of children, it is essential that mainstream schools are provided with adequate funding, preparation and training to ensure that the inclusion of every child is achievable and expected. Furthermore, sometimes schools feel that they cannot offer ample provision to give every child an equitable access to learning and therefore they are directed to SEND schooling – can a mainstream school be considered inclusive if they cannot support all children? This article will consider these arguments …

On Becoming A Hero: Insights From An Unexpected Experience, Christina Maslach
On Becoming A Hero: Insights From An Unexpected Experience, Christina Maslach
Heroism Science
In 1971, shortly after earning my Ph.D. at Stanford, I found myself unexpectedly drawn into the events of the Stanford Prison Experiment (SPE). Although I was not involved in the study’s design, my reaction to the disturbing behaviors I witnessed led me to confront my partner, Philip Zimbardo, about the ethics of continuing the research. That conversation ultimately led him to end the study. In this personal reflection, I revisit my experience as an unintentional “outsider ombudsperson,” exploring the psychological and ethical challenges that unfolded within the SPE. I reflect on what I learned about dissent, disobedience, and how stepping …

Sepsis is a life-threatening condition caused by a dysregulated immune response to infection, leading to organ dysfunction and high mortality. Despite advances in treatment, sepsis remains difficult to manage. Historically, the concept of sepsis evolved from ancient observations of infection-related decay to the germ theory of the 19th century. The latest Sepsis-3 definition describes sepsis as life-threatening organ dysfunction due to a dysregulated host response. However, this clinical characterization may be too late for effective intervention. The concept of endotypes and the ontological data applied to sepsis highlight the substantial heterogeneity in pathophysiological pathways leading to this endpoint. We propose …

Effect Of Moringa Oil And Flaxseed Oil On Lipid Profile Of Male Rats Exposed To Carbendazim, Muhammad Hashim, Isam M. Abu Zeid, Atef M. Al-Attar
The Journal of King Abdulaziz University: Science
Carbendazim (CBZ), a commonly used fungicide, has been linked to adverse effects on the lipid profile. This study investigated whether Moringa and Flaxseed oils could mitigate CBZ-induced toxicity in male rats. Sixty male rats were divided into six groups: control, CBZ (200 mg/kg) treated, CBZ + Moringa Oil, CBZ + Flaxseed Oil, Moringa treated, and Flaxseed Oil treated. The oils were administered at 800 mg/kg for six weeks. Lipid parameters, including total cholesterol (TC), triacylglycerols (TG), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), very-low-density lipoprotein (VLDL), and high-density lipoprotein (HDL), were analyzed. CBZ elevated TC, TG, LDL, and VLDL levels, while reducing HDL. Moringa …

Analyzing High-Risk Fertility Behavior For Sustainable Maternal-Child Health: A 2017 Sociodemographic Study In Urban And Rural Indonesia, Asti Annisa Utami, Fadhaa Aditya Kautsar Murti, Popy Yuniar, Milla Herdayati
Kesmas
Indonesia's goal of achieving Indonesia Emas 2045 hinges on improving Maternal-Child Health (MCH), essential for building a healthy and competitive population. Despite some advancements, the Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) and Under-five Mortality Rate (U5MR) remain high, particularly because of High-Risk Fertility Behavior (HRFB). The HRFB poses significant risks to MCH, affecting both urban and rural women. This study aimed to identify the factors associated with HRFB in these areas to enhance MCH outcomes and support Indonesia's sustainable health goals. This cross-sectional study used a secondary dataset from the 2017 Indonesian Demographic Health Survey. A total of 20,530 women of reproductive …

In Indonesia, subsidized members are the largest group in the National Health Insurance program. Hence, it is essential to understand their ability to pay (ATP) based on tobacco expenditure. This study aimed to determine the ATP of subsidized members based on tobacco expenditure and factors associated with their willingness to pay (WTP). This cross-sectional study used secondary data from the National Institute of Health Research and Development. The population included all subsidized members; 19,918 were sampled for ATP, and 14,560 were WTP. The independent t-test, ANOVA, and logistic regression were performed. Results showed that ATP from tobacco expenditure ranged from …

Healthy behavior among housewives is a crucial aspect of efforts to maintain healthy housing. This study aimed to analyze the relationship of socioeconomic status (e.g., household income, level of education of family head and housewives, and family head’s occupation) and environmental health knowledge with housewives’ behavior (e.g., vector control, waste management, home ventilation, cigarette smoking, and hand sanitation hygiene) in maintaining healthy housing in the subsidized flats in East Jakarta, Indonesia. This cross-sectional study employed the two-proportion hypothesis test formula and a simple random sampling method, recruiting 137 housewives for interviews. Data were analyzed via logistic regression to determine factors …

Identification Of Crustose Coralline Algae Species In Florida And Their Ability To Induce Larval Settlement Of Caribbean Corals, Danielle Macias
Identification Of Crustose Coralline Algae Species In Florida And Their Ability To Induce Larval Settlement Of Caribbean Corals, Danielle Macias
All HCAS Student Capstones, Theses, and Dissertations
Crustose coralline algae (CCA) are a diverse, globally spread and yet poorly studied group of benthic organisms. They act as settlement cues for coral larvae, but this interaction is often species-specific, as CCA species can be either inducers or inhibitors to larval settlement and metamorphosis. Despite this importance, information on Caribbean CCA distribution, diversity, and impact on coral species is limited due to the difficulty in identifying them. In the present study, CCA samples were collected from seven different reef sites in the southeastern region of Florida’s Coral Reef and genetically identified using molecular analyses. Some of the samples collected …
