Purpose

Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients benefit by starting radiation therapy (RT) promptly upon diagnosis. Diagnostic scan-based radiation therapy planning (DBRP) eliminates the need for computed tomography (CT) simulation. This is a retrospective study comparing dosimetric differences between volumetric arc therapy (VMAT) diagnostic scan-based plans recalculated onto simulation CT scans.

Methods

Radiotherapy (60 or 66 Gy in 20-30 fractions) for eight NSCLC patients was planned on diagnostic CTs. The plans were recalculated onto the fused simulation CTs, mimicking first treatment setups. Dose-volume histogram (DVH) were used to compare the minimum dose received by 95% of the planning target volume …

Addressing Medical Errors In Nursing Practice Through An Evaluation Of The Barcode Medication Administration Program, Alma Trigg

Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Manuscripts

The barcode medication administration (BCMA) process is complex. When a step is omitted or altered, the risk of a medication error reaching the patient increases, which subsequently increases the chance of the patient experiencing an adverse drug event. A BCMA program evaluation was implemented to address questions related to policy and practice. Dr. Harrington's BCMA checklist provided the framework for the assessment. The Medication Administration System—Nurses Assessment of Satisfaction (MAS-NAS) scale, developed by Hurley et al. (2006), and the BCMA perceived usefulness scale, adopted by Darawad et al. (2019), measured nurses' perception of the program, including technology integration and ease …

Collecting The Strands: A Psychoanalytic Study Of Hair-Pulling In Women, Jacklyn Corsitto Aug 2025

Collecting The Strands: A Psychoanalytic Study Of Hair-Pulling In Women, Jacklyn Corsitto

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This dissertation investigated compulsive hair-pulling (i.e., trichotillomania) in women from a psychoanalytic perspective. The assumption, from a psychoanalytic viewpoint, is that the symptom of hair-pulling serves meaningful, and multiple, psychical purposes that should be analyzed rather than immediately removed, as would be the case in the current gold standard of treatment—behavioral therapy with habit reversal training. This behavioral modality leaves little to no room for exploring the historical, relational, symbolic, and emotional dimensions of hair-pulling. This dissertation fleshed out these dimensions and investigated what hair-pulling was doing for the individual, what its function or purpose was, and, indeed, what ideational …

Causes, Consequences, And Countermeasures Of Military Coups In The Gambia, Alhagie A. Mbye

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Military coups d’état remain a persistent threat to postcolonial African states, undermining democratic consolidation and institutional legitimacy. The Gambia, although historically regarded as a relatively stable West African nation, has experienced approximately 14 coup attempts since gaining independence from Great Britain in 1965. While military coups in Africa are well documented, much of the existing literature relies on broad regional frameworks that emphasize externalities such as foreign influence and geopolitical pressures rather than internalities such as national policy direction, and domestic governance challenges. The purpose of this qualitative case study is to address that gap by providing context-specific empirical research …

Urban Wildlife In Your Backyard: Community Experiences With Coyotes And Outdoor Cats, Clarissa Emma Cressotti

Dissertations and Theses

Urbanization reshapes ecological processes by fragmenting habitat and altering patterns of human-wildlife interaction, often reducing biodiversity. However, at the household scale, residential yards can either enhance or inhibit ecological connectivity - functioning as informal habitat stepping stones or barriers to wildlife. This thesis examines how residents' environmental attitudes, wildlife experiences, and socio-demographic characteristics influence yard-level behaviors and shape the presence of urban-adapted wildlife species, particularly coyotes and domestic cats, across the Portland, Oregon metropolitan region. A mixed-methods, social-ecological framework guided the analysis, integrating survey data from 244 households with wildlife detections from motion-triggered cameras (Urban Wildlife Information Network, UWIN), citizen …
