Post-Translational Modification Of H2b C-Terminal Helix Regulates Nucleosome Interactions And Chromatin Signaling, Yani Zhao, Anh Nguyen, Eyla C Arteaga, Aleksandra Skrajna, Krzysztof Krajewski, Dennis Goldfarb, Robert K Mcginty

2020-Current year OA Pubs

Histone H2B contains a highly conserved C-terminal (H2B αC) helix that has been implicated in chromatin interactions and dynamics. The H2B αC helix comprising residues 105-125 is positioned adjacent to a major site of nucleosome interactions called the acidic patch. Despite individual structural studies highlighting interactions between chromatin proteins and the H2B αC helix, the general role of the helix in mediating nucleosome recognition has not been explored. Moreover, many post-translational modifications (PTMs) have been identified within the H2B αC helix, but significant gaps exist in our understanding of their regulatory potential. In this study, we employed nucleosome affinity proteomics …

Experimental Assessments Of Second-Hand Battery Degradation Under V2g Operation For Electric Vessels, Olamide Olagunju, Tamer Kamel, Sarah Fear, Lee J. Durndell

School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics

Vessel-to-Grid (V2G) technology offers significant potential for supporting grid stability, boosting renewable energy integration, and increasing the profitability of electric vessels (EVs) through intelligent energy management. However, concerns linger regarding the impact of frequent charge-discharge cycles on battery health, especially with the further inclusion of the V2G power cycles. The impact of this approach has been well-studied for road-based electric vehicles, where the concluded outcomes are particularly customised based on the road vehicle operational duty cycles. However, this approach remains largely unexplored for marine EV batteries, due to their unique duty cycles and implementation of second-hand battery systems for use …

A Community-Engaged Approach In Nursing Research: The Use Of Mapping Tools, Sally Moyce Sep 2025

A Community-Engaged Approach In Nursing Research: The Use Of Mapping Tools, Sally Moyce

International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)

Nursing researchers seeking to reduce health inequities often work within communities to identify potential solutions, yet translating research methods for laypeople without formal training may present challenges.1 Visual tools such as diagrams and mapping are effective research methods that help engage the community in the process and encourage active participation in generating potential solutions to a complex health problem.2 In participatory research, these methods help bridge potential communication gaps between community partners and nursing researchers and fosters a sense of ownership among community members, thereby enriching the quality and relevance of the research.3 The purpose of this …

Adverse And Positive Childhood Experiences Affect General Health In Asian American Emerging Adults, Wenyi Chen, Chakra Budhathoki, Maichou Lor, Deborah Gross

International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)

Background: Positive childhood experiences (PCEs) are safe, stable, and nurturing relationships and environments in childhood.1 Both PCEs and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are common and can co-occur. Empirical studies have shown that PCEs not only buffer the negative effects of ACEs,2, 3, 4 but also positively impact physical and mental health outcomes independent of ACEs.5, 6, 7, 8 However, few studies have simultaneously examined the influence of ACEs and PCEs in Asian American populations. This study examined the association between ACEs and general health and assessed whether PCEs moderated this association among Asian American emerging adults from diverse backgrounds. …

Implementing Flipped Classroom In The Nurse Anesthesia Curriculum: A Quality Improvement Project, Pedro Hernandez, Yasmine Nicole Campbell, Valerie J. Diaz Sep 2025

Implementing Flipped Classroom In The Nurse Anesthesia Curriculum: A Quality Improvement Project, Pedro Hernandez, Yasmine Nicole Campbell, Valerie J. Diaz

International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)

Current research indicates that most faculty members are from the Baby Boomer generation (1946-1964) or Generation X (1965-1980), in which the instructor assumes the principal role of knowledge. Current evidence precludes that 91% of graduate nursing students are from Generation Y (1981-1996) and Generation Z (1997-2012) with a fondness for a flipped classroom, where student autonomy in classroom preparation is prioritized. The application of this technique has been widely evaluated using student exam scores. Utilization of generational pedagogical preferences is crucial for student success and critical thinking. This quality improvement project aims to answer the question: In multigenerational nurse anesthesia …

Enduring Uncertainty Through The Lens Of Osteoporosis: A Mixed Methods Study, Caitlin M. Vlaeminck

International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)

Osteoporosis is a chronic illness that affects individuals globally, is underdiagnosed, and often poorly managed. Uncertainty is a phenomenon experienced by individuals diagnosed with chronic illness and is defined as the inability to determine the meaning of illness-related events. Experiencing uncertainty can lead to decreased quality of life (QOL), delays in decision-making, and negative impacts on relationships.

Purpose: This study aimed to determine if individuals diagnosed with osteoporosis experience uncertainty and to determine the lived experience of individuals with osteoporosis. Mishel’s Uncertainty in Illness Theory was used as the theoretical framework.

Method: Participants completed The Mishel Uncertainty in Illness …

Clinical Placements For Nursing Education And Student Perceptions In Correctional Healthcare, Kimberly A. Rumsey, Shinu Joy

International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)

Background: Texas has the largest prison population in the United States, with approximately 134,000 individuals currently incarcerated. Ensuring quality healthcare for all patients, including incarcerated individuals, is essential to uphold ethical standards and legal requirements. However, correctional health facilities face unique challenges in recruiting and retaining skilled nursing staff due to the demanding nature of the work, safety concerns, lower pay, and the stigma of working in a prison environment (Chafin & Biddle, 2013). Introducing nursing students to correctional healthcare through positive clinical experiences may increase their interest in this field for future employment.

Purpose: The project investigated nursing students’ …
